Justin definitely beat a stronger/deeper field in winning the PGA and I would give him props for that, but very few golfers if answering honestly would say that if they could pick only one major to win in their career it would be the PGA Championship. That's why I give Jordan a bit more props for winning the Open. Maybe Justin would be different given his family background I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, nothing at all to be shamed about in winning any of the majors, or any tournament for that matter. And like you say stats are stats so I can definitely understand why you would give Justin's PGA more weight due to stiffer competition. Question will probably be moot soon as there is a lot of golf to be played over the next three weeks, and whichever of the three wins it I will have no problem with it.

@iacas agreed with all above. I'd also throw in the cachet of The Open Championship trumps that of The PGA Championship. The drama of Jordan winning that tournament will be replayed frequently on the Golf Channel specials leading up to The Open in twenty and thirty years. Not sure that this years PGA will garner the same attention when history is written into the annals of golf.

Oh okay then you are pretty close to me indeed. I'm just about 30 minutes from Winston down here on High Rock Lake. Hopefully not for long though as I'm trying to sell my house so I can pack up and move to the golf Mecca of Myrtle Beach.

True...Looking forward to the PGA Championship, it will be my first time attending a major. In the process of planning a fun guys weekend. I take it you are from Charlotte? I'm about 45 minutes north of there in Lexington. Well the course is on the south side of town so actually about an hour or an hour and a half depending on I85 traffic. lol

Always Wells Fargo...just moved it to Wilmington for one year...back to Quail Hollow next year.

There was a foul on North Carolina last night late in the game that didn't get called at the time that could have effected the outcome of the game, as a viewer can I call in Monday night, DURING THE NEXT ROUND and have the replay officials go back and review the non-call and penalize North Carolina?
-
No one who was even remotely in charge of making rules decisions in other sports wouldn't even be answering the phones at all.
-
Can we now go back and look at past Majors in HD and maybe take away a couple from Jack and/or Tiger? Where is the limit?
-
Never mind just the round being over...can we all agree that at least when the day is over it should be over? If it's that important and you are going to call it that tight put a rules official on each golfer and call it when it happens. And if you are going to use instant replay review, do it on all shots for every golfer and use it instantly...it's kind of in the name.

DJ as I gotta go with the hometown guy. Like all four of them a lot though and never bothered by any of them winning.

I voted #3. One of the things that make it special is the novelty of it. If every event has one it will just become another norm and take away from the original one. #16 at Scottsdale is already losing some of its luster for me. Things like that are better in the beginning when they are organic and created by fans, and then Corporate gets a hold of it and immediately thinks "hey this is cool, how can we profit off of it?" In Scottsdale, from what I understand they have stuffed as many luxury boxes around there as they can so corporations can entertain their big wigs and now its an expensive and tough ticket to get around 16. And this occurs across all sports and events in general. Just look at the NFL, in the past few years the league has started suing small business owners of mom and pop type bars for advertising that they are having a "Super Bowl Party". You can't use the term Super Bowl any more and have to refer to it with phrases like "The Big Game Party" to stay in legal compliance. Nascar was seeing huge numbers and revenue growth in the 1990s and people outside of the south along with the white collar types were starting to follow the sport and attend events. Nascar abandoned it's roots in small town southern states taking away dates from places like Darlington and closing tracks in places like North Wilkesboro and Rockingham in favor of venues in Kansas City, Chicago and the like in search of yet more growth and revenue, and since then their numbers have been in free fall. I think sometimes the "powers that be" just end up out thinking themselves instead of just enjoying their success.

If you could be a PGA tour caddie, who would you loop for?
wolfpackguy replied to Wally Fairway's topic in Tour Talk
Boo! I just think it would be fun to listen to him tell stories. -
What price range are you looking at and how many rounds are you planning to play?
-
I hate them...the only good snake is a dead snake.
-
Oh don't worry we have snakes down here in the south as well. Nothing like the feeling of hitting your ball up to the edge of a creek and just as you walk up and peer over the edge you spy a cotton mouth water moccasin slither off of the rock he was sunning himself on. :)

Right there with you guys on ability, maybe a bit worse...currently about 45 minutes north of Charlotte in Lexington.

Let me know how it goes with Ship Sticks...Going out to Vegas in a couple of months and considering using them rather than having to drag them around the airport shuttles and all that. -
I really can't tell the difference in the summer weather between the Carolinas and Florida....but then again I love hot weather. Winter can be pretty bad at times here in the Carolinas, at least inland and even in the Pinehurst area. Obviously nothing near what the Northern extremes of our nation get but also not even close to the good weather Florida has in the winter months. Also a lot of the courses don't drain that well here in the Piedmont region so even when we have a warm winter we will usually get a lot of rain and the ground can be rotten for weeks which leads to tons of mud balls and cart path only conditions. The sandhills region and Myrtle Beach drain much better. I myself am in the process of selling my house and trying to pick a golf paradise to move to. The two options that I have narrowed it down to is Myrtle Beach or Florida. If Florida probably the Southwest Coast around Tampa or below in the Naples area. Have also considered The Villages, although it is more of a retirement community and I might be a bit young yet to move there. It's also a little farther north than I would like to be if I choose Florida (hour north of Orlando).

Thing about Myrtle Beach is there can be showers in the forecast and it might last for 30 minutes and be pretty for the rest of the day....also there might be a shower at 15th ave north and 10 blocks in either direction might not see a drop. Be glad you are flying...I've actually made that drive once. Back in college met some females down in Daytona one year on spring break. Decided to go visit one of them in Fon du Lac, WI over easter weekend. Me and another guy left out of Raleigh, NC at 5 p.m. on Thursday drove straight through taking turns driving at each gas fillup. Arrived in Fon du Lac at like 1 p.m. on Friday. Partied hard that weekend and headed back Sunday morning hungover and hating life. Cars were dodging the remnants of the previous nights fifth of liquor that was left in my system as I hung out the window and my buddy barreled us through Milwaukee at about 80 mph down the interstate. No time to stop, had to make it back in time for work. Made it back just in time to shower and be at work at 9 A.M. monday morning. Couldn't imagine pulling that off these days at my current age. Helluva road trip when you are in college though. lol -

Good deal man glad you were able to get in touch and he was able to work it out for you. I know you are going to have a blast and look forward to playing with the both of you someday. Make sure you pack clothes for all types of weather. Early March in Myrtle could be 80s one day and cold with heavy winds and rain the next. (Cold being relative to the area as I'm sure it doesn't compare to Wisconsin). You guys are flying down I assume? -

Glad you were able to get in touch with Brian. I'm sure he will set you up nicely with what you are looking for. Hopefully by the time you return to Myrtle for your second trip I will be living there once again. If you don't make it to Caledonia on this trip, or even if you do, next trip I will play it with you. Can't wait to hear how your trip went. Any other questions you have about the area don't hesitate to ask. Doesn't have to be golf related. -

Okay if it was me in your shoes here is what I would do. I would start out at Myrtlewood for a warm up course. They have two 18 hole courses to choose from, Pine Hills and Palmetto. Both offer pretty much the same difficulty and are of the same quality, with a little bit of variance in their respective layouts. This is the course closest to your location and you should be able to get on in early March for about $50 bucks a round for either course you choose. If you are wanting to play Barefoot, I would probably choose the Norman or Love course. Either one presents a nice challenge but yet are more forgiving on mishits than Fazio or Dye. A lot of the Norman course runs along the intercoastal waterway and much of the Love course is on the grounds of an old Southern Plantation site. Of the two Love will be a bit more difficult as I find some of the greens tougher to hold an more undulating. Here is a hint...if it fits into your time schedule I would look into playing barefoot on either Wednesday or Sunday afternoon as they have really big reduced rates on those days that could save you quite a bit of money. My third choice if you are wanting a little something different would be World Tour. Another course that isn't far from your area. World Tour's concept is each hole is a replica of a famous hole from courses around the world. I.e. the 17th at Sawgrass, holes from Augusta, St. Andrews, Oakmont, Royal Troon etc. A lot of the snootier golfers write this off as gimmicky, but I find it kind of neat and truthfully Myrtle Beach in general is kind of a gimmicky town (but fun) lol. At any rate, the course is well maintained and a quality course reasonably priced at probably around 75 bucks. My fourth choice is going to send you maybe a little bit farther of a drive than Barefoot (but not much of one), but in the opposite direction down in Pawleys Island. The few extra minutes I assure you will be well worth it and the beauty of this course will negate any problems than the grief you may get from the wife. lol Caledonia!!! If money isn't an object you REALLY need to play this course. Looking at about $150 for a round at Caledonia. It is often described as close to Augusta that you will ever play due to the landscaping and scenery here. It's located on an old Southern rice plantation, carved out of a coastal forest with centuries old live oaks and spanish moss hanging from the tress and flowering shrubs and azaleas. Challenging but very playable for someone of your golfing ability. Consistently the top ranked public course in the state and one of the top ranked in the nation. It truly is the gem of Myrtle Beach golf and I have never heard any complaints from anyone who has played Caledonia. -

No problem man. I used to bar tend at a little spot on 13th Ave North, in North Myrtle Beach...I can't tell you how many times I got phone calls from people looking for our bar while on 13th Ave. North, in Myrtle Beach. I had to explain to them they were about 20 miles away from me and I'm still not sure they understood what I was talking about. lol If you don't here from Brian through email in the next day or so shoot me a private message and I will find his number, I have it somewhere around here in this pile of paperwork that is currently on my desk that needs attention. This is probably his busiest time of the year with lots of people finalizing and booking their spring trips. Sometimes it's quicker to get in touch by phone. Enjoy your trip and can't wait to hear how it goes. Hopefully will be making a trip down to play very soon myself.
