I would have said "I'm sorry, I didn't realize that this was against any rules". rendering a smart-alecked answer to a smart-alecked statement serves no useful purpose. too much animosity in the world today as it is, without adding more. there's always other places to help a friend learn to swing, there really are. agreed, plastic practice balls are looked down upon by most accomplished golfers, but they aren't the ones that they were created for,or utilize them. find any open area and hit away.. it's the form that's being instituted, not so much how far one can hit a ball. I've seen many players work on their swing without hitting anything... they use mirrors, they use video cameras, they even use other frindes to critique them. I think it's a shame that the economy has effected many people to the gegree it has, but local Pros need a paycheck just like I do, and I shouldn't be willing to take money from their billfolds just because I disagree with an established rule of the range, or course. I do think that most charge a tad more than most commoners can afford, and maybe that should be re-evaluated and lowered if at all possible.

What does your screen name / username come from?
WilsonWedgeMan replied to Jeepthrills's topic in The Grill Room
mine is simple as well... Wilson wedges were the 1st clubs I bought when I started messing around with this sport. they had the #1 priority for me... they were cheap. and I still hit them in my backyard daily... did I mention that they were CHEAP !!!! -

1st Battalion/8th Field Artillery -25th Inf Div....great unit...now disbanded. was a surveyor for the 155s... now a 27 yr employee w/ Dept of Veterans Affairs Med Center. have had the honor to serve others who've served, from WW1 to Afghanistan... living history. whoever gave the advice about being sold out is absolutely correct. regardless of the branch of service, once you leave for basic/boot camp, you MUST take on the soldiers attitude that you're now becoming a part of a new family, with hard times and good times. forget about what you left behind, until you go back for R&R...; you can't think about anything but what's expected of you in the moment... and you WILL succeed.. I'm proud of ya,Marine.

Sliding Forward vs Rotating
WilsonWedgeMan replied to MikeLowry5's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
all this Tiger vs Hogan debate is fine and dandy, but what I need to know, too, is what drills are taught to acheive proper weight shift. I, also, find myself hanging back on my right foot, which is disasterous. I try to keep my head behind the ball, and that just encourages the right side to stay put. I try sliding like the photos show, but that causes topped shots, or terrible mis-hits. I will mention that due to an auto accident a decade ago, I can't rotate the hips like I used to, but still can rotate 75%. any advice for weight shifting???? -

in all seriousness, find an instructor. you'll learn more, faster being taught on a routine basis. it's money well spent if you're interested in becoming a musician/guitarist.

..went as far as 14* York Rite.... then I quit. for several reasons, really. one reason was this: keeping secrets from your spouse is never ok, for any reason. it underminds the very foundation of what a marriage is, by Gods' standards.and that is the way I saw it. you must live with your own interpretations of what He meant..2 becoming 1. it always bothered me,and it DID bother me but I went along to get along( I was wrong for that,IMO) .... until: ...the deciding factor to leave: I was also in line to be the 1st Master whos' Father and Grandfather were PMs, and were alive and present when the night of stepping up was to occur( dad- 32*/ Granddad- 14*). but because of clique politics w/i the place, they decided to keep the officers where they were for at least another year. some there did NOT want my dad to be part of that history, for whatever reason..I'm guessing county politics, as my Dad was an elected official. but it effectively crushed my GrandDads' spirit as well. I still have his 1st Masons' ring that was given him in 1923.....so much for decades of loyalty, huh. that was wrong, and had NEVER been done before in that lodge..ever. all because the friend of a PM wouldn't attend meetings(in which he was Jr Warden), not because of work, but because he had other interests....my Grandfather died 2 months later... and he was the co- influence that led me there... make no mistake, this was all calculated prior to any meeting thriough un-ethical means, behind many members' backs....that was the last straw.. I didn't need to be associated with any fraternity who blindedly, and sheepishly allowed such actions.... oh yeah, BTW, the one most underhanded... he was GRAND MASTER at the time... Brothers? get real... tell that to those who haven't seen the other side of that fraternity, where many will blindly follw w/o questioning whats' directly against the "rules".... I did, and would not receive even an honorable explanation, I was told about the "secret" meeting by a life-long friend who was in attendance, but kept his mouth shut ... until he told me weeks later( for which he was scared to death that THEY would find out).... noone here can tell ME anything about Freemasonry... been there, done that. and I didn't get it from a library.... case closed

all have given excellent advice, except this: do whatever you have to do to become an Officer. the pays' better, the chance for advancement is harder, but worth the effort, the odss of getting a better paying GOVERNMENT job after discharge is 10 fold compared to enlisted ranks. I am a vet, I work for the Dept of Veteran Affairs, and can guarantee you that officers do better in and out of service.
