I played a few courses this summer where they were on the banned list of attire, of course I didn't know that before i got there and I was wearing cargos. However they weren't long, right at the knee and the pockets were more for show than carrying cargo. they looked very neat. noone ever said anything to me about them. i asked about it a couple times because the dress code was posted in the pro shop but I was always told that they were trying to eliminate the big baggy sloppy shorts. I am seeing an increase in courses banning them.

I have the Sumo SQ and I get the same looks.

Great job on the equipment. I agree with PiKapp23, a lesson or 2 would definately be a step in the right direction. There are quite a few places in the area that offer indoor lessons in the winter. Personally, I go to Golfsmith a couple time a week just to hit balls. i go to the one in Schaumburg and the hitting area is about 20 yrds out and it gives a pretty indication of initial trajectory. And if it's not busy, I can get the one the reps there to turn on the swing machine for me that measures ball speed, trajectory, and approx distance. I think it captures spin rate as well and a couple other things. And they have several bays and all the clubs on they carry available to hit at your leisure. It's a great place to practice for free while my fiance is shopping at bed bath and beyond next door. Welcome and Good luck. :)

I too think about golf waaaaaay too much. lol. I'm orginally from the St. Louis area. I get down to Rend Lake a couple weekends every summer for fishing and golf. I love the course. welcome to the trap.

yes ma'am, you hit the nail on the head with that one. I'm hoping that I get this new job which involves a lot of travel so that I can to some warmer weather and get a few holes in. I've got a few friends that live in AZ and they love it. Good luck with the move.

Although it is very subjective, I love this list and look forward to it every year. It points me in the right direction of new equipment for the year and it gives an initial review. And I too put faith blind unwarranted faith in their reviews. i would even use past years reviews to make up my mind about which club to buy if I was on the fence before I learned the importance of demo-b4-buy. Oh well, I'm off to pick up my copy.

IMO, golf is more mental than physical. You have to be comfortable with and confident in your equipment. If getting a new hybrid with new technology will give you more confidence then by all means do so. The hybrids will be a good choice. You can hit them off the tee and you can play them from many more lies than the woods.
-
From what I can gather, it seems like the hybrid you have now is a very servicable club for you thus I would keep it. As far as upgrading it, it's a matter of feel. Demo a couple and see if they feel right. But if your old one is still holding it's own, don't fix what ain't broke. That being said, I would stick with the hybrid and since you don't hit the woods well anyway, I would suggest looking to replace them with hybrids at least until you get comfortable hitting the woods. You may get more distance with the woods but it won't matter much if your spraying it all over the place. One of my best friends uses the following set up: Driver 2H 16* 3H 20* 4H 24* 5-PW SW LW Putter he and I play twice a month and he consistently shoots in the high 70's - low 80's. he drops most of his strokes around and on the green. but he is insanely accurate with the hybrids. it makes the game more enjoyable and keeps him competitive. good luck.

Tiger... Of all the video I've seen of both of them, I think Tiger is the better golfer and I think he faces stiffer competition than Jack did imo.

Drivers mostly. Although, I am going through an iron phase right now.

By this, I meant brand of driver (Nike, TM, Callaway, Cleveland and Ping). Stiff flex stock shafts in some felt like regular flex in others. Good luck.

20* Nickent 3DX Ironwood. I am new to hybrids and I have been quite hesitant but I bought it off ebay for $15 and its practically new. So I figured I would give it a shot since the investment was minimal. The jury is still out...

best small to midsize equipment manufacturers

I would say Nickent or Snake Eyes. -
I've been told by reps at Golfsmith and Golf Galaxy that shaft stiffness is relative to the manufactuer. There isn't any regulation on exactly what shaft flex. So a stiff shaft in one brand may be regular or X-stiff in another brand. Personally, what I did was find a brand that I like. From there I tried out different combinations of lofts and stiffness on the simulators in Golf Galaxy and Golfsmith. I ultimatly bought the driver with the best results. Granted, it was a simulator and it was the manfacturers shafts, but it was more cost effective, than buying drivers and shafts and hoping for the best.

I've been playing the NXT Extreme because I got 3 dozen of them brand new in the box for $15 bucks. I like for how it feels and plays off the tee. But I am not partial too it. I am definitely going to check out some other balls. Thanks for the info.

I have always had trouble getting good spin on my wedges and I have to admit, I am a sucker for a good info-mercial. They seem to be reasonably priced and I see them a lot on Ebay. Has anyone tried these wedges? Any feedback or comments would be greatly appreciated.

i have no doubt that this was UPS's fault. I used to work for them as a package handler and they way guys used to handle packages was unreal. "FRAGILE" & "HANDLE WITH CARE" mean absolutely nothing on the loading docks especially this time of year. And the delivery drivers aren't much better. That looks like a classic case of a long box not laying flat and something thrown on top of it. That's a damn shame. Good luck with the claim.

thanks. i'm going to check this out when I get home.

I play on courses where these services aren't usually offered unless they are having a tournament. On the rare occasion I do come across this service, I tip the bag boys because sometimes it is a convenience and its something that I am not used to so I figure... what the hell. It's only a couple bucks. If i was that concerned about $2, then I should have probably stayed at home. As far as the club cleaner guy goes, no thank you. This is something that I have always done myself. It's nothing against them but I have a certain way I like things done. And if i saw someone clean my clubs with a muddy towel... holy cow... I would probably be asked not to come back.

They're closed on the weekends and close at 4:30 during the week. I might check it out while i'm on vacation. I've heard good things about Boggies Indoor Golf Club too. The drive is too far for me though.
