  1. Figured I'd post this to see if there were any advantages or disadvantages to my swing. I played baseball growing up and my Dad turned me around to bat righty since I am left handed. He always told me it was better to have the power hand on the bottom, so I throw lefty and bat righty. He did the same thing to my little brother, who throws righty and now bats lefty. Funny thing is, I play golf righty, but so does my brother... I have noticed I am a fairly big hitter, since I can outdrive my stepdad who has almost 100 pounds on me. I was just wondering what the pros and cons are of having a swing like this, and also what you make of the fact that I stick to the righty swing, while my brother bats lefty, but plays golf righty. Thanks!
  2. 1 on 1 lessons on the range, then eventually 9 hole lessons on the course. This is what I've been doing for the last month and it has been very enlightening. You will be shocked at all the things you are doing incorrectly. After my first lesson, I played 9 holes with my brother, and I was terrible. I had too many things going through my mind... but after a little more practice, everything has started to click, and I can't wait for my next lesson! Get out there as soon as possible.
  3. Like most of the other people on this thread, I used to use strictly my wedges (56*) around the green. I recently took a 9 hole lesson with a scratch golfer, and one of the main things I learned was to abandon this strategy. There are certainly times that call for the 56* or 60* wedge, but certainly not as many as I thought. Before you decide on a club, you must take a few things into account. How good is your lie? How much green do you have to work with? Do you need to clear a hazard? How far are you from the green? ... Unless you are short sided, or have a hazard to get over, chances are you should go with a club with less loft. It is much easier to control an easy chip shot with a 9i or PW compared to a SW.
  4. I would check ebay for a set of used clubs. This is what I did, and substituted my own putter and a few wedges, etc for feel. You can always take out clubs you don't like, and get an idea of which clubs work best for you... worst case scenario, you don't like any and put it back on ebay for the next beginner golfer... and there is no exact measurement really, golf equipment is completely about what works best for YOU
  5. you could also try moving the ball up in your stance, a little closer to your front foot to help hit it on the upswing
  6. I personally don't want to see him playing, but football should keep his mind on the game, instead of reverting to something as stupid as dogfighting. If he messes up again I'm pretty sure he would be done with the NFL for life... which I thought he was before
  7. thanks for the replies... I think Ill just go with epoxy for now, although elmers glue sounds tempting.. moron. If that doesn't work I'll call up Callaway.. thanks again.
  8. forgot to add a side note... I am in Nantucket for the rest of the summer and there are no golf shops here.. its an island if you are not aware.
  9. Well I broke my 7 wood last time I played . It was a used club I got in a set off ebay. It is a Callaway ERC 7 Wood with a replacement shaft. As far as I can tell the glue just wore off and the head came flying off... Can anyone suggest the best way to go about fixing this? Is it easy to do it yourself, or should I send it in somehwere? The head is fine, and although the shaft is a bit worn, it looks like it would be fine with some more glue. Thanks in advance for any help.
  10. I have been taking lessons from a family friend who is a scratch golfer/instructor. I cannot tell you how helpful it has been to my swing and general approach to the game. I was so surprised at all of the things I was doing wrong, and the bad habits I had gotten into. I just wanted to post this to encourage anyone who has been thinking about taking a lesson to just get out there and do it.
  11. hahahahaa that was great.. but seriously, this is golf its not a rock concert! dam shooter mcgavin was right
  12. So I just got back from playing my local Par 3 course and noticed a couple of goofballs ahead of me messing around. While one of them took a practice swing, the other guy, standing directly behind him, rolled a ball between his legs without him knowing. The golfer hit the ball squarely and it landed right next to the pin about 130 yards away. Both of them fell down hysterically laughing as my friend and I watched. Pretty crazy.
  13. case closed... now you can pass them onto your grandchildren, when you still have some decades from now
  14. Snatch test? How does it test the snatch? is it a grading scale of 1-10?
  15. Play as a single. Yesterday I played 18 with a couple friends, and a single joined up with us on the back nine. Ended up being a cool guy, and at the end exchanged numbers, and will probably play golf with him sometime soon. Thats really all it takes! I know you must be a little nervous since you are scoring about 115, but as long as you dont take forever, no one will have any reason to give you a hard time.
  16. That is awesome, I would love to be paired up with a group like that
  17. I play a lot of munis and I have encountered the same problem. Those hard packed bunker spots used to get me all the time. It basically comes down to how much of your ball is buried. If the ball is obviously submerged in the sand, then you can tell it is the fluffier stuff, so give it your normal bunker shot. If the ball is sitting high on the sand and is obviously on the hard packed stuff, try and pick it clean off there, maybe taking that top thin layer of sand.... that is how I have dealt with it anyway, hope that helps. Good luck.
  18. Definitely agree with everyone else, that backswing is huge.

  20. Its pretty easy. Go to Golfsmith or any pro shop, pick up whichever putters interest you, and putt with them. It may take some time, but you will figure out which one you like the most. You never know it might be the cheapest one, its all personal feel and preference.
  21. My Stepdad always tees up this way and it bugs the hell out of me. I pointed it out to him and he said he didn't do it on purpose, but somehow everytime he manages to have his tee pointing almost at the hole.
  22. Ratfarts! Noonan! everything from the drunken bishop, ted knight, and of course spackler... i love when he is putting the c4 squirrel w/ wires sticking out of its ass into the gopher hole and says, "dont mind this, doctors orders"
  23. Blasphemy
  24. I have a friend in medical school who has been known to give his friends IVs when they are too hungover. If it was John Daly, then I would guess this was the case.
