Based on Davis Love's press conference after picking the 3, I wonder why he didn't just go ahead and pick the 4th right then and there. it didn't sound to me like there was anything special in the waiting that was really gonna move the needle for anyone. The only advantage I can see is if someone got injured their being picked could be moved down, in which case there's probably already a caveat allowing for substitutions in such an extreme circumstance. The delayed 4th pick this year just seems like hype rather than help.

yeah, don't remember who he is, but there's some golf pro/instructor on Morning Drive this week who is definitely up there in years, but is fit and flexible, a wiry, sneaky strong smacker of the golf ball. fitness is a key to all sorts of good things in life, golf swing being most important.

Thank you for reading my mind.

This falls in the same category as all the movie stars who use their Oscar acceptance speech to highlight their pet issue. They have a right to do it, but I wish they'd just wear a #$%^ ribbon and leave it at that. And any sponsorships lost, tv network sanctions, NFL/AMPAS rules, and fan/audience support or flak I'm all for. Government intervention/laws/regs - no. Let freedom ring.

The psychology of blowing up: How do you stop it?
wannabe replied to ol 3 putts's topic in Golf Talk
The thing I tell myself as positive reinforcement after a bad shot are things like: "That's not your normal, that's the exception" "Ok, the bad one is out of the way, now back to my normal good shots" Others have mentioned playing a hole at a time as the game; for me I'm usually trying to play in the absolute present of one shot at a time, with a clean reset and "moving on" after every shot. As others have mentioned, I'll echo that good fitness, both cardio and strength, along with hydrating/nutrition during the round are essential to staying fresh right through the final putt on 18. If you aren't feeling fit enough to tee it up for another round after the first one is over, time to hit the gym. A quick glance at my index will also tell you that I hit more than my share of bad shots during a round, so for me, it's either get over them quickly, or spend several hours in misery. I play for the enjoyment of the outdoors, the time away from it all, hanging out with the gang; good golf is my goal, but I consider it a lifetime of learning. It's a matter of perspective, and to each his own. -
The psychology of blowing up: How do you stop it?
wannabe replied to ol 3 putts's topic in Golf Talk
A number of replies, including the OP, reference topping or skulling the ball after the bad shot. It's possible that the neg emotions have created tension in your body, leading to tight neck, shoulders, arms, etc., thus shortening your swing and leading to the thin shot. If so, a possible remedy could be overdoing some relaxation techniques to ensure you are physically stress free - deep breaths, intentionally lowered shoulders, long, loose, practice swings, some stretching/shaking it off, whatever to get the tension out, loosen up, and allow you to physically and mentally "reset". -
Purchasing a travel bag - any suggestions?
wannabe replied to Showboat12's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
For a non-frequent traveler, I love this one. Golf Travel Bags Caravan. Turned out to be nearly as cheap as the clubs I was going to have to rent if I didn't travel with mine, so I got a win-win: a travel bag, and use of my personal set. As above, pack in some kind of rod to take any pressure off your driver. Buy one of the ones suggested, or, for a cheapskate like me, use an old broom handle. I always also weave a beach towel in and around the club heads for an extra layer of protection and to eliminate jiggling. -
GAME GOLF - Digital Tracking System
wannabe replied to dhanson's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Great thread. Sorry if this has already been asked, but is there a minimum frequency of play for using this system, in order to get any real value from it? Seems like you'd have to be at least someone who averages more than 1 rd/month, maybe even closer to 1/wk, in order to get benefits from this kind of stat tracking. -
Question About Stand Bag Repair
wannabe replied to moonmaster36's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
great deal on that hoofer. I picked up an old one too recently and have a question - is it only supposed to stand up using its legs, i.e. like a tripod, or should it also be able to stand vertically without using the legs? Mine will only stand as tripod. And welcome! -
2016 Olympic Golf Tournament (Men's and Women's) Discussion Thread
wannabe replied to Golfingdad's topic in Tour Talk
They just showed Rickie Fowler with the USA contingent in the opening ceremony. The announcers are mentioning the golfers, surprisingly, e.g. Sergio when Spain paraded by the cameras. Of course Bubba, Patrick, and Matt are all playing the Travelers. -
Answered my own question. It was requested a few months ago - GAMEGOLF Forum Feature Request - Watch Someone Else's Round Live Online
-
Slightly o/t, but curious - does Game Golf have a feature to enable this? Realtime visibility to someone else sharing their live shots and scoring just by, say, searching their username? Seems like a great way to allow something like this to happen. If not, I claim IP rights to the feature.

Old habits die hard. I've probably got three sleeves plus what i used from the 4th sleep in a dozen balls. I also have an assortment of shag balls I picked up or used from previous dozens, so yeah, I've probably got 20 balls in the bag. This is certainly a carryover from the days when I'd lose balls continually and built up the mortal fear of not having enough balls to finish a round. Just doesn't happen like that anymore. I could easily get by with a dozen max and be fine and confident, unless I'll be at a course where "going for it" over water would be fun to try a few times with some grunge balls, if it wouldn't hold up play. After this thread, I'm cleaning a bunch of balls out of my bag for sure. Slightly off topic - generally speaking, do cart girls on the course carry sleeves of balls to buy? I've never known them to, or asked them.

Wow - great work over the last few months. Having never investigated something like this myself before, I think I'd get in touch with local USGA folks about your intentions and see what kind of support they offer for someone in your position. I'd also consider discussing with local PGA pro(s) at your club or one of good repute in your area. In other words, seek out some local experts including previous players in the event if you can get in touch with them, in addition to the fine folks here.

Regardless, I hope they "won't get fooled again".

quite right, old chap, quite right.

I'm reminded of the following: "But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, ..." From what I can gather after an exhausting half hour of scanning news reports, this was mostly about sovereignty. On that point, I side with the leavers.

[threadjack] As an aside - I don't need golf in the Olympics. The Olympics to me is about all the sports I never otherwise hear about - track & field, gymnastics, etc. Having golf there - especially as golf is such an international sport already - just doesn't do it for me. I also have always considered the Olympics as a place to highlight the amateur, so these high paying pro sports just don't seem to fit. [/threadjack]

Feherty and Rory talked about the Olympics on the most recent show, filmed right after Rory's Irish Open win. Feherty asked about what country Rory would represent, as if to question his Ireland credentials. Something about him spending much of his life outside Ireland, so the Irish not considering him Irish? Seemed like a very strange question to me at the time - I've only known Rory as an Irishman. Now I'm wondering if there's any merit to the line of questioning, given Rory's dropping out. Of course, Feherty is a recent Irish-turned-American, so maybe the question has more to do with Feherty than Rory. :)

happy to see Westwood up on the leaderboard. I'm not convinced he can take it all, but glad he's in the mix. Always struck me as a deserving kind of guy.

I've noticed during tournament telecasts when they show a graphic of a player's bio or scorecard, they always show a photo of the player, usually a 'headshot' portrait. Here's the deal, though. These pictures are terrible! It's as if they catch each player at the end of a practice round and say "hey, quick photo please?" then snap off a poorly framed, poorly lit, unflattering angle, snapshot on a crappy background. What gives here? The production quality of the tournaments are so good now, one would think a decent photo of every player could be provided for the telecast producer to use. Really really strange.

How Important are Head Covers?
wannabe replied to Bacondivs's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
My understanding: Head covers were originally created to protect wooden clubs' finish from the elements, so they served an actual functional need. When metal woods came on the scene, the practice continued, with much of the real need having been lost. The added benefits of sound dampening and finish protection due to scuffing are now the primary reason to have them, which is more preference, as has been stated. And of course, aesthetics and vanity come with the territory. I use them, and like them. -
And his first two rounds were with Fowler and Woods.

Dustin doesn't appear at awards ceremony; has left the grounds, no interviews. Poor dude.
