  1. I saw Hank Haney's the other night. He talked about how Tiger practiced. He said that one thing Tiger does is practice all nine shot trajectory and direction combinations with all clubs, so low, med, high trajectory with draw, straight, and fade directions. He said this is a great way to see what really see what your swing is like. Though I'm guessing other pros do this too, it was the first time I had ever heard someone talk about a pro, any pro, doing this. Sobering to reflect on that level of skill. Also, Hank mentioned that before going to the range, one should think on the few things to focus on when at the range, not just "hey, I'm going to hit balls". That was instructive.
  2. Really pathetic for GC to pull this stunt to get a lot of folks' hopes up when there really was no chance to begin with. Watched Karen and Wayne -- duds. Haven't seen the third finalist.
  3. First time I've ever 'seen Sean' (spell that 10 times fast) or heard his instruction. My first impression fwiw: 1. Agree with others, Sean came across a little douchey. Always been there, or some ego riding along with the bagging Tiger? dunno. 2. Recognized some not so veiled S&T; for sure - good to see. 3. All in all I'd be much more apt to watch his show rather than Mr. "Let's DO This!!"
  4. how was the setup of the course? Did it mirror the tournament layout at all? tee boxes in similar places? Only having seen it on t.v., I love 17 and 18 on that course - how'd you do on them?
  5. 50 degrees @ 20 feet? sorry, that's too funny. video? Don't let my buddy see this - nailed him right in the upper mid back on the approach to 2nd hole of 18; he was about 75 yds in front of me. I yelled fore, but it was too late. If he had turned around, it would've hurt worse. He expletived for a while, shook it off and we continued on. Another time, I sky'ed a tee shot off the top of my driver head straight up in the air about 50 yards; it drifted in mid-air right about 20 yards over to the preceding green. Couple of guys over there not hit, but also not happy. So yeah, balls can come from anywhere.
  6. http://www.deckchair.com/355/ Came across this while searching online. It has pics and a brief description of unique golf courses around the world. Included is the Legends in South Africa with the famous 19th hole par three with the tee box on top of a mountain, green at the base. Also included are: Brickyard, Indianapolis, IN, USA - some of the holes are in the inside of the automobile racetrack next door. Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, USA - one of the greens is a motorized movable island green. Green Zone - situated across the Finland/Sweden border - play in two countries in one course. Coober Pedy, Australia - all sand & gravel except for the greens, carry turf with you to tee off. Nullarbor, Australia - stretches 1400 km along the coast. Stone Harbor, New Jersey, USA - another strange island green. I've also heard about a cool sounding course in Las Vegas, NV, USA, that (I think) has holes inspired by famous holes around the world. Anybody ever played any of these courses, or know of another strange/unique course/hole that they've played? Would you play a course like this regularly if it were near you?
  7. smails: Ty, what'd you shoot today? Ty: Oh, I don't keep score, Judge. Smails: Oh, well, how do you measure yourself with other golfers? Ty: By height. I like par.
  8. I was doing yard work on Sunday afternoon, wishing someone had the golf tourney broadcast on a radio station so I could listen. Instead, I ran inside every once in a while to check the leaderboard on the internet and catch a few mins of the tv broadcast. For the JT Shriners Open. Imagine -- wanting to listen to a golf tournament on the radio. Pathetic, really.
  9. maybe throw in a windspeed and direction measuring device (anemometer), a thermometer, doppler weather radar, a barometer, altimeter, compass, soil tester, etc.? If you're gonna allow technological helpers, allow them all. I'm ambivalent on the subject but lean toward allowing it. Having all this information at your fingertips in a handheld device that automatically chooses a club and swing type & trajectory (1/4, 1/2/ 3/4 full,...) for the golfer still wouldn't take away the human factors involved in finally deciding the course of action for the player/caddie. I guess the question to be asked is, "Is part of the test of competitive golf the ability of player and caddie to read the conditions, including distance, when determining club/shot selection?" Lastly, on the subject of speed of game play, having more information at your fingertips doesn't necessarily speed things up; oftentimes, more and faster information provides more things to discuss when trying to make a decision on course of action. Given the ease of using the laser rangefinder, I can imagine a caddie/player shooting the laser at many more targets than necessarily needed when trying to determine what type of shot to hit. "Hey, Jim, shoot the top & bottom of that tree for me to see if I can get over it or not."
  10. warmup swing at 1st tee too close to the golf cart - nearly broke the cart windshield, scared several foursomes waiting to tee off. Embarrassed is too nice a word for how I felt.
  11. Thanks. So if JT is the host for the tournament, is he considered a sponsor, does he help pay for it, just lend his name & time to it, other?
  12. Related to this thread topic - so how are groupings determined for rounds one and two of pro tourneys? Is it different by tour, by event, ??
  13. Was watching the Justin Timberlake Shriner's Children's Hospital Tournament, and the questions in the room were, "Did JT pay for this tourney? Shriners? Is it JT's course? How are these tourneys paid for? Who pays the winners?" Who gets the money from ticket sales, merchandise, & concessions? Related to this, the Champions Tour tourney this week is the AT&T; Championship presented by Alcatel-Lucent. Does this mean Alcatel-Lucent is paying for the event? Thanks, TST Experts!
  14. The "golf gods" will have their revenge on him, and smile on you. You've already won.
  15. Definitely a very personal decision, one that can only be made by real-world comparison. I remember being very excited to try out a Rife at the local GS when I saw them advertised. It was strange how it just didn't feel good in the hands, whereas the Yes! felt like I had been born holding it.
  16. I like the logo on the hats. Didn't see them for sale on the official site.
  17. well how about that - while browsing for tips, I stumbled across your other videos on youtube, Nick. Had no idea you were on this forum - cool. I like your on camera style and what you're teaching. All the best.
  18. Those Yes! putters are really sweet. I went around the room on the practice green at GS recently, and the Yes! was the only one that instantly felt perfect in my hands.
  19. Yep, doing both is what you need. You need lessons, and you need to be able to video yourself with a good high speed camera. To begin, I'd first encourage lesssons. But learning golf is a process, and it's a lifetime. To wit, the greatest golfer in the world is working on yet another swing change.
  20. 1. To the OP, no, it is not rude. 2. It should not add appreciable time to a round. In fact, given the comment about taking trouble out of play, everyone's balls ending up at similar places for the second shots, etc., could speed up the round. 3. Find a strategy/tactic to relieve the pressure on them to play from longer tees. Let them know that they put pressure on you when they play your tees. Put small wagers/dares on distance remaining to the hole after the tee shot, without regard to which tee someone uses. 4. As typically the highest handicapper in group of playing partners, I have no problem with them using the longer tees and me using the shorter ones. It actually gives me a fighting chance to keep up with them.
  21. Q uoted F or T ruth
  22. bummer! Send one in anyway, even though the deadline has passed. You guys have some great insight and an existing online following; ya never know! word. His scream-talk drives me nuts.
  23. anyone heard of this?
  24. I'm trying to remember a golf course/tournament I saw on tv once where some guys in Montana set up a "golf course" in an open field on their property. It was wild - some of the holes had ridiculous yardages, obstacles, and even the golf holes themselves were crazy - I think one of them was a galvanized trash can. As I recall it was all in good fun, charity type thing, amateur, alcohol allowed, etc. Anybody know what this is? I may even have the state wrong, but I thought it was Montana.
  25. hehe, I remember when I went to my first pro golf tournament, I was expecting it to sound like a fireworks display after watching and hearing all the gunshot like sounds on the telecasts. It was exactly opposite - the most serene gathering of a course full of golfers and tens of thousands of spectators.
