  1. Freddie Couples! always
  2. I agree with that. I'm not in favor of excessively discrimatory policies but I think there are some things that are appropriate and others that are not. It's not a question of whether it's morally acceptable to wear jeans on a golf course or if they're a bad person or something, it just isn't appropriate to dress that way. Maybe on a really low rent course or something but on a nice course people should try to look like they belong there.
  3. I'm not sure if you guys are talking about doing this at address or at impact. If you're talking about impact you want your hands to be ahead of the ball. The only way to have the center (equator) of the golf ball strike the center (sweetspot) of the club is to have your hands ahead of the ball. I know this sounds funny but try holding a club and ball at eye level. You'll have to tilt the shaft forward in order to have the two centers meet. Look at great iron players like Johnny Miller. His hands are way ahead of the ball at impact. If the club were straight up and down at impact it would either be fat or thin.
  4. I really think the issue at hand here is that you have military service for men so it's very difficult for them to really excel at golf or any sports. Another big issue I think is that American women don't really seem to play golf at the same rate men do. Most girls I know and knew growing up had never touched a golf club. If they played a country club sport it was tennis (American women do excel at international tennis) but almost none had ever really tried golf. This could be different in other parts of the country. I think the relative lack of American women playing golf leaves the door open for other countries to excel. Asian women, on the whole, tend to be shorter and less muscular than American women so I think if we had some of these women who play tennis, softball or soccer with such commitment the LPGA would look a lot different. If we had serena or venus williams playing golf, golf gene or not, I bet she would be phenominal.
  5. 196 is very impressive especially for a jv team. Good for them!
  6. The most important thing to remember is to relax, have fun and play your game. All of those things are easier said than done. I can't help you with the first two but remember if some gorilla hits a 280 yard driver over a bunker and you know you can't do that, don't. This early in the season just play conservative, smart golf. Play your style of golf. Practice your chipping and short putts. These make a huge difference in HS golf.
  7. I think it depends on if you like the heads or not. If you really like them get them altered. If you are thinking about new clubs get them or go with the cheaper option for the time being.
  8. I like him. He's definitely good for the tour as long as he doesn't say soemthing really dumb.
  9. As long as Joe Buck and Tim McCarver don't start doing golf I'll be happy. With a lot of sports announcers I just hit the "Mute" button and put some tunes on. Life's too short to worry about it
  10. I second cranberry valley
  11. to practice chipping I put a soda can in the yard and chip at it until I hit it, from various distances and elevation changes. I do pitches, flops etc all like this. I look at chipping as determining where I want to land the ball, chipping it to that spot and the rest is in the golf gods' hands. If I hit my spot and get a bad result I misread the green but still made a good chip.
  12. I do some weight lifting and stretches. I should stretch more but o well. I mainly focus on upper body strength and core strength. It's not a perfect workout routine but I'm not a pro so anything I do is better than nothing. If you lift a lot you'll have to worry about losing flexibility but if you can stay flexible it will definitely help your golf game.
  13. he just teed off! let the over analysis begin!
  14. I've been trying to find it but I can't so far
  15. Some have the beverage cart on the screen. It's pretty fantastic
  16. My best advice would be to encourage him to have fun. I took it WAY too seriously when I played hs golf and it took a lot of the fun out of it. Beating your rival school's brains out is always fun though!
  17. This is right on in mu opinion. After playing high school and mediocre college golf I realized the best strategy to me is to just have fun. You're entering this because you want to right? If you're not having fun don't do it. Relax and play within yourself. If you play with a gorilla who's hitting the ball 400 yards don't worry just do whatever you'd usually do. Just have a good time
  18. I think the relaxed part is good advice. Just relax and let the good swing happen. It's all for fun after all. Not trying to add to an arguement here but I really doubt you're going to see any tour pros catching the driver on the upswing. When you hit any club like that it is impossible for the center (equator) of the golf ball to strike the exact center of the club, regardless of the club. ( I know this sounds weird but try it. You'll notice if you hold a club and a ball you can't make the center of the golf ball touch the center of the club without tilting the club slightly forwards i.e. leading with your hands and striking with a descending blow.) Furthermore all clubs produce backspin. A golf ball's dimples are designed to create lift when spinning backwards, if it had top spin it would drive it self into the ground (like a good tennis shot). Also if you're catching the ball on the upswing you should be drawing the ball a fair amount because the club face will begin to close at that point on a good swing. And you will be losing some distance because you're missing out on the "snap" of the club head coming through the impact zone. I'm not trying to start an argument here I just wanted to add my thoughts.
  19. I agree. While I understand tiger (and everyone else) is extremely competitive, if I got to play golf for that kinda dough I wouldn't be able to stop smiling!
  20. That would be pretty cool but I'd be happy to see him healthy and winning on the senior tour
  21. I agree, the pin location can be very valuable
  22. horrendous cheating helps
  23. wow I didn't hear that
  24. I think the courses (and I) like how they speed up play. They might cost a little more but golf's never been cheap
  25. Freddy's always been my favorite player but stuff like this is just to be expected. I'd love to see him win again but he's 49 with a bad back although he has what I think is the greatest golf swing ever. Let's hope he has a great season but I've heard he's already getting excited about the senior tour. That'll be awesome to watch!
