Bogey Golfers Only (Index 16-22) / Breaking 90 Topic
xcott replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
Why would anyone assume someone who shot a 101 couldn't break 100? My guess is they're just messing with you at this point. -
Also encouragingly, my anti handicap is the lowest it's ever been as well (only been keeping a handicap for 5 months) anti handicap is 33.9. Best is getting better and the worst is getting better too.
-
It really is about limiting the utter disasters, and finding a par here and there. I realized at my home course, I've hit every green in regulation except 1 (240 yd par 3) and can play each hole at par at some point.
-
28.6 -> 28.0 Finally the decline is beginning. 2 sub 100 rounds in my last 5.
-
And as if you've answered the question with examples...dress codes exist because people will wear anything they damn well please regardless of it's appropriateness to the occasion. I'm ok with shorts to golf, but shorts to a wedding or jeans to a wedding or pajamas to the airport..come on. Let's all have some decency.
-
Yes, everyone prioritizes their personal comfort and desires over considerations of others. Unfortunatly. Strolling around in your boxers may also be even more comfortable, why not go that route?. I'm comfortable taking my shoes off and screaming during movies, so I should just do that, probably. Personal comfort is the only consideration.
-
I'm fine with more dress codes. The garbage people will wear in public these days is pretty appalling. There is no good reason to force the world to see your legs and feet if you're a man. If you wear flip flops in public you should be shamed.

From playing with handicaps from scratch to 30, I can tell you that you will never get to a point where you stop "knowing you could be playing better" Better is a sliding scale which is always just ahead of where you're at. I get upset sometimes as well, but it's helpful to have some bad stretches and then still end up at a decent (for you) score.
-
you'd be surprised how many blowup holes you can have and still break 100. Just play each shot and each hole seperately. The score at the end is the score at the end. Dont think that a 9 ends your day, it didn't for me. I still broke 100. Keeping my stats has helped a lot because even though my scores have barely been improving I can see the gradual improvement on everything I do. Slow steady improvement is the name of the game. The long trends, not the short ones
-
Here is a very good look at how my game has slightly improved over time. The bogey or better holes are converging with the double or worse holes. When those lines cross, I'm going to be very happy.

2016 Olympic Golf Tournament (Men's and Women's) Discussion Thread

I have a feeling a lot of the players who backed out are having second thoughts. -
Ok, another round under 100. Posted a 99, but it was extreme. 1 bird 3 par 7 bogey 1 double bogey 6 triple bogey (including a 9) weirdly I never hit a sand trap, water hazard, lost a ball or had to drop for any reason, just some blowup holes with multiple bad shots on a single hole. My index is definitely going to drop this revision, which is a good thing. I've been tracking my scores and I've been improving recently by turning my double bogeys into bogeys, but I haven't turned my triples into bogeys. Averages of last 10 rounds/averages of all previous rounds before the last 10 Bird - .20/.16 Par - 1.90/1.27 Bogey - 6.10/4.92 Double - 3.90/6.16 Triple+ - 5.90/5.61
-
These will expose the sandbaggers at least.

pants are not a rule at my club, it's just my personal preference. actually it's 106 right now with heat index of 121. i'd STILL go out in pants.
-
It's 105 right now here without heat index. I would wear pants golfing. They are lightweight wicking material.
-
golf pants and collard golf shirt, temps get over 105 with crazy high humidity in the summer. Personally I find jeans to be very uncomfortable and restrictive, which would make them bad for golf.
-
Asking peopel not to play in jeans is really just saving them from themselves. Who on earth would do that. I think men look like idiots in shorts, but I'm ok with someone wearing nice ones on the course

The Relatively Common Shot that is Most Difficult for You
xcott replied to bkuehn1952's topic in Golf Talk
The "golf" shot. -
I will occasionally listen to some music in my cart. Rules of music eqituitte 1. ask the people in your group if they mind if you're going to turn it on. 2. Keep it a a level that it can be heard only in the near vicinity of the cart 3. If your cart is getting near another tee box or cart, turn it down further. The only time others can hear my music is if they arrive near my cart and I don't see them coming.

I play as a single pretty often. It helps if you're willing to skip holes. Sometimes I'll play two balls (I make sure to pay for 2 greens fees though, dont want to steal </sarcasm>). I played as a single yesterday. Went off a few holes and it was quiet then caught up with some 4somes and a 5some. My approach is to play quickly behind them and try and hit the tee box while they are on it so I can possibly be let through. If I'm let through, I'll play very quickly (no looking for lost balls). If we're on the tee box, I'll ask them to finish driving if they want so that we're all going to the second shot at the same time and I can quickly get through the hole with a minor inconvenience. I hope my quickly playing behind them isn't seen as trying to push them, but rather tryng to slide by as quick as possible If the course is packed and it's 4some after 4some, then it could get a little annoying to move through for both them and myself. In that case I'll hope to join up or try and find a hole in the play where I can jump on a few holes and play. Or just do lots of putting/chipping practice while waiting (in this case I'll pay for 6 greens fees, since I will chip and putt a lot). It's a bit easier having a membership because I don't feel like I'm not getting my green's fee worth of play. Since I regularly will play two balls as a single, I actually pay for two memberships, one for each ball.

played some tough new courses on vacation, no sub 100 rounds. However did get a 99 in on my home course prior to going on vacation which was good. Then played yesterday first time in a couple weeks due to work and shot 61/48. Back 9 was crazy one double, one triple and all bogeys. all told things seem to be rounding into shape, my stats continue a positive trend and a lower handicap is on the horizon.

Shot a 53 on the first 9, then had a beer at the turn and one in the cart during my 46 on the back. Just saying.
