  1. Funny this thread just popped up. After our round on Sunday the four of us realized in the clubhouse that we used the same ball all day that we teed up with on 1. I don't ever recall having that happen to my group before.
  2. Not really my thing but I have nothing against them especially now since they have upgraded the quality. To each their own. As far as tennis balls are concerned I had thought I read somewhere that it was a television thing. But then again I am no great tennis mind either.
  3. Like many that have commented I can be playing steady and then go +5 over a two hole stretch and as quickly as it came all is well again. Happens in about 80% of the rounds I play. Other than the obvious issue of talent I can't figure out what happens. I'm pretty even tempered out on the course even when my game goes south. I save my drinking for the 19th hole. So what gives?!? Oh well, I do have those 20% rounds that are really, really fun though...!
  4. LOL at the comment about Gary Player. I have all the respect in the world for his accomplishments but I always though he wouldn't be someone I would get along with. As far as contemporaries go there isn't anyone I would not play a pro-am with but John Daly might be my last pick. I admire his talent but all the non-professional antics this guy has pulled over the years in competitive rounds would be in the forefront of my mind. For all the demons he has/is fighting can be excused as part of the human condition but firing one ball after another into a lake or slapping a moving ball with your club "polo style" because he failed to clear the false front on a chip for the 4th time isn't something I have very much respect for. I would always wonder when he would just up and quit during the pro-am round.
  5. You too?! Yea, just last week-end if it wasn't for a few missed putts my 86 would have been a 69 easily on my 6600 yard course.... The ironic thing is for some people on this site that don't respect the LPGA game would be the first to start a "Am I good enough to play on the PGA tour" thread if they every played to that caliber. It's a funny game, that's for sure.
  6. Another consideration for adding a 5th would be scheduling. Isn't the BMW PGA Championship on the Euro Tour a pretty big deal? I don't know historically when they schedule that event but this year it's played late May so it falls right between The Players and the US Open.
  7. Got a buddy that is fun to play along with but has this one very annoying habit. Whenever he has a particular important tee shot he goes into this long routine with adjusting his body, aiming, stepping back from address, ect. Imagine a 52 year old fat Keegan Bradley without the KB result. The sad thing about this is because it's not his normal routine he hits a terrible shot at least 70% of the time. The other 30% he just crushes it and well, that's why he does what he does. The other thing is when someone is constantly searching their pocket for a ball marker and when they do finally find one tees, receipts, cash, whatever spills out of their pocket and now they are chasing the damn things because the wind took it. Anyway, it's still worth it to get out and play.
  8. Had a similar experience with Juli Inkister at Minneapolis Golf Club a few years back. Never hit anything that I would call spectaular but she didnt have too. All she did was hit fairways and greens. All day long. Made it look so simple..
  9. I get why people discuss topics like this but the way I see it better to have had that moment then none at all. I have a hard time pointing at a player that won a major and calling them a "one-shot wonder" when they have, in fact, won a major even if they did fade into professional obscurity afterwords. I'm sure Rich Beems trophy room is a bit more impressive than my trophy shelf!
  10. Now that's funny! Nice work. I can't say I follow every move on the LPGA but I'll watch on occasion. Their games resemble mine a lot more than the PGA tour does. Of course when I say it resembles my game I'm using the term very loosely as I can't recall shooting an under par round at a 6500 yard course. That said their course yardages and distances they hit on average are pretty close to mine so from that aspect I'll watch given the opportunity.
  11. Wow, I have never heard of that. Thanks for the info!
  12. Whoa! I don't think I understand this right. What exactly are "mats on the fairways"?
  13. Not sure if I would call someone with all one brand foolish. A big part of this game is the marketing aspect so if someone wants to go with all one brand then whats the harm in wanting to be associated with that one brand? It's just a hobby after all and it's yours to do what you like with it.
  14. I'm pretty sure the OP was just making an observation. I have noticed that the more time I spend on here the more I notice older equipment and how "out of place" it looks. Only goes to show how skewed ones perspective can get if one only hangs with club ho's!
  15. I have to respectfully disagree with this. One of my favorite things in the world to do is get up early on a Sunday morning and with my coffee and paper have the Euro Tour on the GC in the background. Its a different style and one I appreciate. Sometimes with the American announcers it's as if a puppy will be harmed if for god forbid they shut up for 5 seconds. Listening to the Euro broadcast I can actually hear the birds and the sound of golf. But that said I don't have a strong opinion about any particular announcer. One exception was and I do not know who it was yesterday kept saying kikuyu over and over. That was getting a little annoying.
  16. This is truth. My wife's uncle is a police capt and one thing he tells people over and over is do not get into a road rage incident. He said that from what he has witnessed and his fellow officers you would not believe how many people have a loaded gun sitting next to them while in the car. And this is in Minnesota and in the suburbs! So when you see something that is blatantly the fault of the other driver I would recommend going to your happy place and do not get into a pissing match. I'm 42 years old and if it's one thing I learned is unless it's a direct threat to me or someone else I do not get into verbal assaults with anyone. Better to be called a %$#@! and walk away. Too many people walking around with big time chips on their shoulders. You get into it with one of them and you just don't know how it's going to end.
  17. Only $2500 for 8 of these....????
  18. Threw my hat in the ring.
  19. As I have said before this thread just keeps on giving and giving... Personally Shorty is not one of my favorites. I find his comments abrasive and caustic most times and I can understand why you would have the reaction you did but I'll say he is not wrong. And besides to quote "legendary" football coach Dennis Green, "the great thing about America is everyone is entitled to their opinion. The other great thing is about America is you don't have to listen to it." I'm speaking a little tongue in cheek but I think Shorty's take is if the kid was serious he wouldn't be arguing with people on this forum about how he is going to light up the PGA Tour. The fact that the OP is 13 is irrelevant considering who knows how many other 13 year olds are working their tails off right this minute working on their games chasing the same dream the OP is. If anything, Shorty is doing the kid a favor hopefully by motivating him to get to work like every other future PGA Tour player will have done when they were 13 years old. And may God have mercy on his soul?!? A little dramatic isn't it? Look, I'm not here to tell anyone what their beliefs should be but I seriously doubt when Shorty's time comes God will open the book of life and this thread will be there. If God is reading TST fourms then a few guys on here (sean miller I'm looking at you! ) better pack some sunscreen. Anyway, I'm not trying to harsh on anyone. To the OP, I wish you the best and as always the ball is in your court.

  21. Patience young grasshopper, patience.
  22. It's not a matter of knocking anyones dream, it's the way you have gone about it. Look, you want to play on tour? That's great. Nothing wromng with aiming high. But like anything else in life success comes from hard work, proper preperation, and the ability to close the mouth when it's time to listen. For every success story there are dozens of guys that talk a big game but never made it. So it's your choice. Either you close your mouth now and get to work achieving your dream or you can take pride in playing word games on the internet with other golf geeks that have real jobs. You once asked how you go about practicing to get to that level well here is my advice. For every minute you spend on the internet there is another kid somewhere that has the same dream that is working on his game or studying the lessons of those who came before them. He is your competition, not us. It's your choice kid. Don't forget the ball is always in your court.
  23. This^^^ This thread keeps on giving and giving.
  24. That's a little harsh, don't ya think?!? I disagree that most ams are stupid for playing a blade. Over the years and trying out different sets I am beginning to think that "GI" and "forgiveness" has more to do with a marketing strategy than actual performance. Not to say that there isn't anything to the claim of "more forgiveness", I just think that the terms are a bit hyped. Meaning a 90's shooter currently playing a CB or blade will not drop a significant number of strokes because they switched to a GI club. And this coming from a guy that who's last sets included 735cm's, AP1 (older version, '08 I think), and now to a set of Mizuno MP-30's. IMO and just my opinion I think the performance comes from more your style (picker vs. digger) than anything else. That and getting fit with the correct shaft. Off topic but I see your from the KC area. It's a tradition in my house to serve Jack Stack BBQ for Christmas eve. Best BBQ I ever had, hands down! And sitting here at work I am eying 4 bones of ribs for lunch today. Between Jack Stack and Gates y'all got some seriously good food down there! KC is a very underrated town in my opinion.
