I'm not surprised about the "eh" reaction. I think people are just burned out of the whole Tiger misfortune thing. I mean, whats left to be said? But I will say I think the book hasn't closed on Tigers career just yet. I'm guessing there are a few more chapters to be written before all said and done. That is if he can get healthy.

What exactly is the purpose of you repeatedly posting that you never heard of so and so? Who gives a %^&* if you never heard of them. Why someone posts to a thread to the effect of "I have nothing whatsoever to add" baffles me.

Ummmm... personally I would not set up a backyard net. The reason being is that you can think your hitting well and the swing can feel good but because you can't see the full flight of the ball you can develop some very nasty habits as a result. Hitting balls into a net is fine for softball or baseball but the difference here is you have to play your foul balls. Like many have already suggested and it sounds like you are I would get with the pro asap and he will work with you on what drills to work on while your at the range. Personally, I would advise waiting until you get instructions from your pro before hitting balls at the range. That way your practice is most beneficial, not just beating balls and developing bad habits. I do envy you, a clean slate to build a golf swing! Good luck and have fun!

In my opinion this is the kind of question that a pro who is familar with your situation would be a HUGE help. It sounds to me that a lighter overall club would be the solution but what your asking really does involve specialized knowledge of players in your situation. Just my two cents.

I agree with the notion other posters have made that the swing is ever evolving and down the road your D3 possibly may no longer be the proper fit that it is today. The nice thing about what your doing is once it becomes time to make that change the 910's will be more prevalent in the used club market and you can shop around for the 910 and save yourself some $$$ and you hadn't sacrificed a thing since your D3 is the right club for you today. Well played!

Ohhhh.... that's gotta hurt! Hopefully the wife understands that as a group that there are times when we are not the sharpest knives on the tree.

Plumb Bobbing (Putting) Master Thread

I agree with this sentiment. Whether it's "proven" or not if your sinking putts using this technique in your routine then why change? Me personally I don't but then again I get about 90% of my read from when I walk up to my ball. I trust my initial read to be the right one and the more I try to "read" the more I "see" the more confused I get. -
Do putter inserts "go bad"?

I have used an Odyssey WH #1 for several years and I doubt the properties changed at all or will so anytime soon. -
Men wearing women's gear
1par2win replied to MiniBlueDragon's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have a buddy that plays maybe 3-4 times a year and the one club he can hit the heck out of is a 3 wood that happens to be a women's club by Callaway. He was talking this club up when he bought it and he asked if I could put a new grip on it because it felt on the smallish side. I looked at this club and threw another grip on and handed it back to him without saying a word. To this day I don't think he knows but since he is happy with it I figure why spoil his fun?! Amazing what you can appreciate if you take descriptors out of the equation. -
That's what I was saying. There has to be a defect of some sort whether it be the construction, design, or materials that are failing. 120 mph or under swing speed should not create damage latent or otherwise to the face of a modern driver and the design should hold the head intact. Obviously greater swing speeds create greater force but all things considered the forces exerted at impact are not greater that the strength of the material being used. I wasn't taking a shot (pardon the pun) at you. Just making the point that motal man cannot simply break through a titanium face without some other root cause. If I caved in a driver I would be making that point with the OEM. Im sure it happens on Tour often enough but obviously the arrangement between the players and the OEM's is a wee bit different that what you and I have with them.
-
I don't doubt you but I still contend it's a workmanship issue, not a material one. Even for Phil.

Actually according to Titleist your much more likely to damage a driver if you hit off center than hitting the sweet spot. So if your busting several clubs it's not because your hitting it pure.

My "tip" if it's worth anything is to try and re-create the situations you face when on the course. I usually use only 1 ball on the practice green and I go through my routine, alignment, and stroke as I would on the course. It's surprising at times how the pressure can build when you leave a 20 footer 6 feet short! I am of the opinion that unless your faced with some pressure like you would on the course your just practicing your practice routine. My only advice would be to find a way that works for you to simulate course conditions when practicing putting. Also, one advantage of using only 1 ball is that it saves the strain on your back from stooping over and hitting 10 putts in a row. Just my $.02

Golf bag opinion please
1par2win replied to Alohaed's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
This^^^^ Golf is your hobby, if a staff bag works for you then go for it and the hell with anybody that "doesn't approve." -
I say just go with the rentals. I can understand why you would want your own clubs but renting will give you an opportunity to play something different. Last week I had to rent a set for my league (forgot my clubs. 62 miles round trip to retrive them. No way.) and tried out these Cleveland SGI clubs. Never tried SGI's before then and can't say I was a big fan but at least I know something on how they perform. It was an interesting experience at least. And besides your going to a bachelor party/week-end. I doubt the golf played would be all that serious anyway.

After a horrible day how do you deal with golf dejection?
1par2win replied to Albatross Ace's topic in Golf Talk
My one and only goal every time I play a round is to follow my game plan and focus on each shot. Much easier said than done! But anyway regardless of what score I shot if I can look at myself in the mirror after the round and know I did my best and followed my plan then I am content. If my strategy didn't work or my swing was loose that day then I work on what I think needs fixing. So in other words, I focus on the process of golf and not the score I shoot. This is how I avoid living and dying on every shot and keeps me on an even keel. That's the great thing about this game. So many ways to play it... -
I recall a discussion over the winter about hitting frozen range balls and the possible damage to a driver. The thread is linked below. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/thread/43214/for-those-in-the-great-white-north-danger-hitting-frozen-range-balls-with-high-driver When I wrote to Titleist asking about possible damage and I recieved the reply below. I believe most damage in driver heads are caused by mfg defects (welds, glue, ect) and not the material properties found in modern heads. I doubt pounding balls at a range would do any serious damage but stranger things have happened so I don't discount it entirely. "Must be cold in Minnesota :) I posed your question to our R and D group and here's what they had to say. One caveat is that if you hit way off center on the club face, it is possible to damage the welding. At the swing speeds under 120 mph it shouldn't damage the clubs. Our testing speeds for our air cannon are significantly higher than their swing speeds and we use a fairly hard golf ball. After a quick discussion with our research group and materials experts we agreed they are much more likely to damage the golf ball than the club face. So there you have it. Practice away!" I ended up with an all Titleist set-up but not because of any particular brand loyalty. It started when I replaced my wedges with Vokeys a few years ago and when I switched irons I was interested in a combo set. Ended up with the 735cm's. Then it went on to a driver and then fairway woods and hybrids. All along the way I tried out as much equipment out there but ended up going with the Titleist stuff. There was a number of times when a Callaway or Nike club would perform the same for me as the Titleist version but went with the Titleist simply because there wasn't a price difference and I had already Titleist stuff so I may as well match the clubs. Just personal preference. The ironic thing about my set up is I don't use a Scotty Cameron putter but a Odyssey WH #1. I tried a number of Scotty's and borrowed for a few rounds some of my buddies but never did see the big deal in the SC's. I'm not knocking them, just never worked for me. So if I am perceived to be a tool because I have nearly all Titleist clubs then so be it. Golf is challenging enough on it's own merit to worry about stuff like that and besides I am too old to give damn anyway.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for one of those "I'm kind of a big deal" tee-shirts.

...that and 12 majors, 66 PGA Tour wins, and $85,368,762 in tour earnings. I'll give Tiger the benefit of the doubt. Tiger may be a shadow of his former self but it's because he set the bar so ridiculously high. JD, on the other hand, was just plain high.

How many clubs do you need to play your handicap?
1par2win replied to Gerald's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Judging by the replies here it only goes to show solid contact with whatever club is the most important aspect from tee to green as opposed to hitting "x" yardage 1:3 times. And of course putting well is the great equalizer. Seen many striped shots into greens only to see a 2 footer missed for a 3 putt. For me I could remove every other club and probably would shoot the same scores. -
Using a couple of bungie cords comes to mind.
