Looking for a New Golf Ball
Joey G replied to Sean_D's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Yeah, I just re-ordered on Black Friday and got a dozen each for my daughter & nephew to try out. I have a buddy that swears by the Cut Blue as well...they seems to be doing what some of the "premium golf balls at half the price" companies started out trying to do. -
Several clients and myself use the cheapest Rukket 10x7 net, $130 on Amazon with replacement nets around $50-60. It works great and having it definitely helps to expand a backyard putt/chip area to allow for full swing practice too. Like others have said, I find it's more for improving contact consistency than evaluating a player's shots but it's better than just swinging a club. My high school daughter, 4 year-old nephew, myself, and even my wife (never plays) have a better swing today due to having the net in our backyard. My net in about a year old and we never take it down...we'll be getting a replacement net for Christmas.

Looking for some recommended reading on the topic of golf course design and architecture. I just finished 'Nicklaus by Design' and starting 'Golf's Magnificent Challenge' now but need to add a couple to my Amazon wish list for Christmas. What are some titles you've read and enjoyed? Nice hardbacks with coffee table value after reading a huge plus. Thanks in advance, JG. (Par 3 hole from Punta Mita thrown in just for kicks)

I've played the Cut Yellow and they were a lot like Volvik. -
The 20-Hole Golf Course
Joey G replied to The Recreational Golfer's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
My home course has a great, 3-hole, Par 3 practice course (inside the yellow circle) and a chipping green with a large bunker. The range, putting green, chipping green, and the Par-3 course are free for our members and have been great for teaching my daughter & nephews without being in mix on the 18-hole course. Sometimes people do camp out and hit a dozen balls at one hole...but not if there are other people playing the course. It's also great when you can only get in a couple of holes at the end of a work day. -
Thanks, guys!

Thanks! I think he can work with 25-50 yard distances all day long.

Great video! Working on a revetted-face for a synthetic turf bunker right now, this will help.

I love the Vivids too. Like you mentioned, I track them better in flight and can spot them a mile away. That said, Cut Golf Yellow feel almost identical to the Volviks for $19/dz...might check them out for your "bad weather ball". They have 3 matte colors...and white for the normal guys too. www.cutgolf.co/collections/golf-balls This just reminded me that I bought a box of Nitro Pulsar's (matte finish, lime colored) for like $12.50/dz at Wally-World to check out...after reading your experience here, maybe I'll just give those to the kids to test...

My great-nephew turns 5 just in time to start the USKG Spring '19 Local Tour in 6 & Under. He's been playing/walking the local Par-3 courses and learning on my backyard facility since his 3rd birthday with a primary focus on having fun and making contact with the ball. I have recently started using the USKG "Early Start" booklet to guide his play-time with me but honestly feel that he's a little ahead of the curve here and am planning to start the Level 1-3 Beginner Books in the Player Pathway with him and coach him myself for now to get him more prepared for his first events. This is the first of our first experience with the US Kid's Golf organization as my daughter & nephew didn't start playing until they were 12 & 14 thus too old for it...so there are a few things that we are unsure about and were hoping that someone here might be able to tell us a little about the program. Like... 1 - Do we need to have a US Kid's Golf coach in order for him to participate in the Local Tour/Regional/State tournaments? We'll be taking him to some of the US Kids events at the PGA store nearby, using the USKG curriculum, and he gets a lot of time with me in the backyard working on putting, chipping, bunker play, and full swing with every club into a net. We're just not sure that (at 4-5 yo) he will get a lot more than he's already getting from paid lessons. 2 - It looks like the USKG Certified Coach program is more for Teaching Pro's to add to their certifications and continuing-ed type of credits...but, can a parent or family member get certified through the program just to coach as the USKG level? No intentions of trying to become a teaching professional but honestly, the more affordable it is for my niece (his mother) the better his chances of being able to stay involved in the program. Thanks in advance for help, advice, and info...I'm sure more questions will arise but let's start with those for now.

Check out Cut Golf. I've played a couple of rounds now with their 3-piece, matte finish, yellow, ball and honestly can't tell any difference between the Cut ball and the Volvik Vivids or Callaway's Superhot Bold...$19.99/dozen online direct from the manufacturer or Rock Bottom...they make white ones too. 😉 www.cutgolf.co/collections/golf-balls -
Hi again y'all - I posted to this thread a couple of years ago but have since sold my residential Kitchen & Bathroom remodeling business and am now excited to be combining my passions for residential design, construction, and golf by opening a Tour Greens dealership in Dallas/Ft. Worth (North Texas). We're part of a team that has specialized in building residential/community size practice greens. Putting greens, short-game facilities (up to +/- 90 yards) and even Par-3 facilities with synthetic surfaces capable of receiving shots up to 200 yards since 1996.

Playing Shingle Creek in Orlando next week...haven't played anywhere except my home course in three years! -
Missed our spring trip but looking for a tee time on Monday for two...think I want to try Regatta Bay or Emerald Bay first. Any recent condition updates, GolfExec?

I also dropped my 4 iron recently and don't miss it at all. I also dumped my 3w and went to a 12* driver last fall. Never hit the 3 well from the fairway and only used it from the tee on days that I couldn't hit my driver. Once I gained confidence in the new driver loft, no need for the 3w in the bag.

Ok, so I couldn't resist a great deal on a set of G5 irons with TFC100i shafts...I've been playing with my grandfather's Ping Eye irons with steel shafts from 1978-80. I found myself going 20 yards longer with some clubs but am starting to recalibrate my distances after a few rounds on our club's practice course...and I'm hitting them more consistently, mis hits aren't as far off, and I hit 4 of 6 greens tonight from various distances from 110-215, finished 6-holes at +2. I also switched from Black dot to Red dot. Using the Ping charts, I've always been right on the edge of Black & Red and owned a set of Eye2s that Black dot as well as my grandfather's Eyes. I seem to be getting cleaner/smoother contact with the Red dots than I was before...maybe I should've been playing Red dot all along? I know they are still a decade old and there have been a lot advancements since 2007 when the G5s were made but man, what a difference this change is making for my game.

Why Replace My 20 year old forged cavity back irons?
Joey G replied to Midpack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Very similar scenario as the original poster. Started playing again after a 10+ year lay off and have been playing with my grandfather's irons from 1978, they're original Ping Eyes. This was my plan, to play his clubs for 1 year and re-evaluate my game after that, even re-gripped them all to get 'em ready for this season. While I've really been enjoying playing with his clubs and have broken 90 twice this year for the first times ever, after 6 months, I felt like I was hitting a wall with my iron game a little and decided to make a move sooner than I'd planned. However, I'm not ready to drop $600+ on the set of irons that I want...so, I found a set of G5's with the right loft/lie and TFC-100i graphite shafts for less than $150 and couldn't resist. I'm hoping that the more modern design and shaft will help me shave a few strokes...we'll see. -
I recently changed from a TFC-100D Regular shaft on my G5 driver to a ProLaunch Blue 75R. I bought the driver used and it had a full 3" extension installed before I bought it. The extension broke where it met the actual shaft one day on the range. So, here are a couple of thoughts.... 1 - Keep your old shaft just in case. I honestly wish that I had put an extender back in my old shaft because I've had a hard time learning to hit this club again and I loved it before. When I do get ahold of it right, I've got a lot more distance with the new shaft so I am still working with it. 2 - If you decide to save the shaft with an extender, cut the extender down to as small as needed to hit your desire length rather than shortening the shaft to fit the 3" extender. Doing a little research online it seems that it's not uncommon for the full length extensions to break. But they're fine if shorter. 3 - If you decide to replace, shop around. If you're going to change it yourself, you can get that shaft cheaper online with a seller than has a return policy.
