In this instance, the reason for the sale relates to another asset, not the course itself, but yes, I think thats generally good advice

Hi, I'm trying to improve my fitness and strength to improve my game and drop some weight. I went for a run a couple of evenings ago for the first time in years and my heart rate was mostly over 190, peaking at 215. Using the maximum heart rate calculation of 220 - age, this gives me 184. Googling suggests that the ideal exercise range is 50-70% of maximum heart rate, so for me that would be between 93 and 130. Obviously I'm well above that and don't want to do myself any damage. My heart generally runs in the 90s (I'm an anxious chap). Now, because I'm being careful of my knees, I didn't go far, just a couple of miles, and I'm a fairly hefty guy, 5'10 and around 210lb. You guys think I'm OK to crack on? Thanks, Dan

I certainly didn't mean to be disingenuous, and will shut up about my app – this is a generally a positive and community, and I absolutely don't wish to bring the tone down. I just went to remove the link from my signature, and note that this has already been done. Genuine apologies to anyone who felt disrespected.

Not yet Marv, I only have the skills and experience to build it on iOS, but if it proves popular then I’d love to bring it to Android.

GameGolf is obviously pretty cool, and I know lots of people get great results, but I think there's room for something that's free, works on all courses, works well on the range and that I hope over time will become a more serious statistics platform. Quality of strike is just about the most important thing to record in my app, and thats something that the 'competition' doesn't do quite so well.

how'd you find it in real life? I went top-of-the line and don't enjoy the touch-bar experience as much as I expected

@iacas, thank you. you learn something every day. @danmcb26, I'm delighted to share the honour.

I made a free one this summer, with the assistance of my 13yo, which is on the App Store here. The plan is to build up the reports over the coming weeks to help people get the most out of the effort of recording. I've been using it for about 8 weeks and its helping my score come down.

High fives @danmcb26! Well done all winners!

was going to suggest San Diego – I used the practice facilities as a junior, but never had the chance to play. If anyone fancies flying me out there, I'll cover our greenfees!

Are you a Better Golfer than a Year Ago?
Dan Vesma replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
An emphatic yes. A year ago, I hadn't played for five years or more. I was absolutely awful when I started back into the game this summer, and am working as hard as I can to bring my level up and my scores down. might you have been showing off to your new partner? I know my game gets better with an audience. -
Gallon a day water drinkers, got a question
Dan Vesma replied to TN94z's topic in Fitness and Exercise
a boring suggestion, but I find getting the water really cold makes it taste less like 'water' and go down much more easily -
Whats your workout routine? I play once a week :(
Dan Vesma replied to RickPro's topic in Fitness and Exercise
I try to walk a good length at lunchtimes (also stops me eating), and my physio has given me some on-all-fours stretches to do every other day to keep my back flexible. Have seen videos of some good golfers use an exercise machine where they pull a cord from the ground to their side up and across their chests which looks like it might be beneficial. I have been trying to get a mid week game and a driving range session in too, but its hard with kids and British weather. -
I'd not even factored convenience into my thinking Lihu, that is super helpful feedback The place I'm thinking of is the cheapest place for miles. Its a faded gem of a course.

Ive broken 100 at most of my local courses, but Ross-on-Wye eludes me. It’s a tough course, and if I’m honest, I find its scale and condition intimidating. Any advice for getting past this. I had 101 there three sessions ago, but i was back nearer 110 this week.

Hi Guys, This is probably totally the wrong spot, or covering over-walked turf, but whats everyone's go-to-golf toolkit on their phones and watches. Mine is: - TeeTimes.co.uk to find cheap rounds - PING's app for putter training - PGA Tour Live & NowTV to watch the pros - Balata - to track my shots and improvement* Love to know what everyone else uses, Dan * I made this one, so am totally bias Sorry, should have put my Apple creds in here. Apple Certified Technical Coordinator, managing fourty macs and seven servers. Software development in PHP and Swift. 15" MacBook Pro, iPhone 6 (yuck), iPad Pro, Apple TVs, Mac mini media server and Macs, iPhones/iPads for the kids. Wear my Microsoft golf shirt ironically.

We tried out some Golphin clubs out at a competition - totally impressed. The clubs for toddlers are very light and bendy, but even by brand-obsessed 12 year old has decided to stop saving for Cobra irons and wants their 12-14yo irons instead – clean hitting and consistent as all heck.

Hi All, How do you do? No idea how I didn't know about this page until today. I've had six years off golf, but am back into it as of this season, mostly because my kids are now old enough to enjoy it with me. I'm still working out where to join, so am tarting myself around several courses, trying to find the one that will help my game improve the fastest I can. No HCP yet - on a good day high teens, on a bad day on an unfamiliar course the sky is the limit. I also developed Balata, a golf stats tracking app. If anyone else on here is in the Three Counties, I'm always up for a evening's hack around somewhere new, let me know if you fancy a game. Cheers, Dan

loyalty is a tricky thing - my instinct was that we tend to play where we play at least in part because we like the people that run the club and that we play with in comps etc, so wouldn't be so fungible in our choices

So down to see the pro, rather than back to see the fitter?

Having worked as a web designer, and sat the other side of the table a good few times procuring sites, I would urge the use of Squarespace unless there's real reason not to do so. Wordpress can be such a bore – forget to update it and nasty little hacking scum-bags will ruin your site.

So, I've approached someone who has a course that they don't really want. The turnover is poor, and it needs a lot of investment. That said, greens aside, the course is lovely - mature parkland and of good length. The clubhouse is huge, big enough to fun as a small hotel perhaps. My question to The Sand Trap: Would you consider changing where you play if a local course had a makeover and relaunched itself?

Hi All, Your advice is requested. I am playing again for the first time in 6 or 7 years, and picked up a cheap, old Ping G5 driver at the start of the season. It was 13º and lite-reg flex. Once I knew I was going to keep playing (who was I kidding!), I had a successful fitting session for some mizuno irons (standard lie, stiff shafts), but went somewhere else for my driver. I ended up buying a new M2, 10.5º in the stock stiff shaft, but I just can't get the distance regularly. With the G5 I was knocking it regularly 260+, where as most of my shots with the M2 are shorter, maybe 240. Disbursement is better, and the launch looks lower, so I'm not grumbling too much, but I wonder if I've been miss-fit and if thats the case then what I should do? Thanks in advance, Dan
