I use a Callaway XR 16 cut down an inch.

Not being a long hitter the I tend to stick to the tees that play to about 6200 yards.

Webb Simpson has done it more than a few times in tournaments. As far as watching the LPGA goes I find myself watching quite a bit of it. They play here locally in Williamsburg and it's a fun day at the course watching them.

Jay just won the Virginia State Open this past weekend. He was -16 for 4 rounds and blitzed the field by 10 shots. I have played the host course many times. It's a tough track. Props to Jay. He has game to post a number like that.

I enjoyed the dual down the stretch between Henley and Clark. Tim did his best to keep the pressure on him but the rookie kept hitting quality irons and draining those putts.

Played my last round of the year the day after Christmas at Sleepy Hole Golf Club in Suffolk, Va. It was a very windy and cold day but I was glad to just get out. Shot 45+39=84.

Shot a 79 today with 5 bogeys, 1 double, no birdies. Course was 6400 yards, no mulligans, no gimmes, playing it down.

Had the privilege of playing Merion CC in Ardmore, PA back in the early 80's. No yardage markers, wicker basket flag sticks, and caddies. I tried to hit my 1-iron from the plaque in the middle of the 18th fairway where Hogan famously hit his. Of course I had far worse results than he did. What an awesome experience though.

I have too much respect for the game to ever root against someone. I just want to see good golf no matter who is doing it.

Recommendations - irons for $500 budget

I would recommend the X-20's or the CG7's. I currently am playing the X-20's and love them. Have owned Burners before and didn't much care for them and ended up selling them. The x-20's can had for $299 right now on RBG. -
When playing with my normal group we always play from the blue. If I go out by myself I will play from whatever tees the person or group I happen to join up with.
