  1. My friends did accept responsibility and gave the man their information. The debate is whether the club pro should have handled it differently and directed the man to the club business manager instead of sending an angry non member onto the course with a golf cart to chase the "offending" party down. If my friends had not been the civil kind, it could have gotten ugly. The overriding sentiment on the 19th hold is that unless you are intentionally trying to hit the ball at a car, house, person, etc that no liability exist. They did the civil thing and gave up their info. but it just doesn't feel right. Does anyone no the civil legalities on this type of issue or have you had a personal experience with this?
  2. This happened at my course last Friday and I would appreciate your thoughts on whether the club pro acted appropriately in this situation. A couple who are good friends of mine where playing the #2 hole which is a 414 yd par 4 that borders a 4 lane highway right up against the fairway. There is a head high hedge row that runs the length of the fairway and intermittent tall trees as well. They both teed off and sent slices into the roadway. They teed up their 2nd ball and proceeded down the fairway not knowing that something was brewing. They proceeded to play out #2 and #3 hole and were in the fairway on #4 when a golf cart approached them with a man and teenage son onboard. The man said to them that they had hit is car and demanded their information because tehy owed him $200 for insurance deductible to fix the dent in his car. They were flabbergasted and asked how he andhis son got a cart and came to them? They said that the club pro told them it was my friends on #2 and that they could take this cart to go find them and confront them. They gave the man their info and went on with their round stunned and pretty pissed at the club pro. They asked him after the round what happened and he said that this man drove up and wanted to know who was on the hole by the road a few minutes ago because his car was damaged by a golf ball. The club pro told the man my friends name and then gave him the keys to a cart to go find them on the course and confront them. We are all kind of shocked by our pro's actions. The consensus is that he should have been a line of defense for us, his customers, who pay his salary. This is a private country club and we would have expected him to give the proverbial shoulder shrug not sell us down the river. WE are all now nervous when teeing off on #2 because of this incident. What do you all think? Was the pro right or wrong in his actions.
  3. So last night I playing Corning CC again and am playing well. I come back to #14 again and take a minute to bask in the glow of my previous nights best hole play ever. I think to myself can I do it 2 nights in a row? Par 5, 501 yds on in 2? Can I blast the drive I need to set up a "go for it" 2nd shot? Can I pure my 3 iron over trees and water and to an uphill green? Can I birdie again this beauty of a par 5? The answer is no. I had a great drive to set up another "go for it" thought and that is what I did. I took out my 3 iron, repeated the same swing thoughts, "quiet feet, smooth tempo, don't press". I did all that and hooked into the trees on the left. I had to punch out before the water, then lifted a nice wedge to the green for on in 4, 2 putted for bogie. That is what I love about golf....always a challenge, never the same, and always something to work on!
  4. Last night I played the single best hole of my life. Here's the scene: Western NY, Corning Country Club Hole #14 501 yds Time: 6:30 pmish Temp: 92 and muggy This hole is my favorite hole on the course. It is a 501 yd par 5 with a slight dog leg left the last 150 yds that reaches over water and up a steep hill 30 yds to a fast green that slope's severely back to front. I was playing with my 14 year old step son who is new to the game and we wer having a fun casual round. I was Driving well, but my iron play was inconsistent. I was coaching him a little but not too much so as not to turn him off to the fun of just being out on the course. I had been telling him to keep his feet quiet and that a golf shot is about smooth tempo and not power. So, we step up to the 14th tee box and I have those thoughts in my head. With my driver I hit the longest drive I have ever hit on that hole. It flew 280 yds down the left side leaving me 220 uphill yds to the green. I now ran the scenario in my head. I could take my auxiliary wedge and knock it to the 100 yd marker to set up a nice approach to the green and be on in 3 or go for it with my 3 iron. I knew if I hit my 3 iron well I would have a chance. I looked at my partner and said what do you thinK? An instant reply of go for it. My thoughts immediately were "I've got this shot, keep your feet quiet and hit it smooth not hard" I then said this out loud to reinforce it in my mind I pulled the club back slowly and released it without pressing. It came off the face of my 3 iron with that wonderful click sound and soared up and over a blocking tree on the left. I couldn't see the green but instantly knew it had a chance of making it. As we approached the water I looked up the hill towards the green and saw my ball sitting on the putting surface about 30 feet from the pin! I was estactic. Fist bumps and high fives were flying as we marched up the hill to the green. I 2 putted for birdie and racked that up as my best single hole play ever! What's yours?
  5. Swing looks good. Not sure what your ball is doing consistently to offer good advice. Two things I noticed. One the face shot video, watch where your head is at at set up and how it moves down, back and then back up through the swing. One fundamental is to keep a quiet head, yours appears to move alot. Second, your stance appears a little to wide. It should be shoulder width and yours appears wider than that. Good luck this season!
  6. I like the 5 wood idea or even a hybrid but the best club I added to my bag last season was a Cleveland Niblick 47 deg. A great scorer's club for when you are in trouble. I can swing full with it and hit it 150 yds or use it to punch out of trouble on a low trajectory. Check it out, they are great!
  7. Not funny at all. Why would you laugh at the pain of others? Do you laugh when you go past car crashes? I am all for laughing at "Jackass" type stunts gone wrong, but this? Time to see a shrink I think.
  8. $295 at Kiawah Island Ocean Course not including $100 tip to the caddy. It was 95 degrees adn 90% humidity and we walked. Almost got heat stroke but loved every minute of it. The caddy was great, it was like a 18 hole golf lesson. Definitely a one time deal for me just so I could check it off my bucket list.
  9. Mine is Bear Bryant of University of Alabama surrounded by a bevy of beautiful cheerleaders! That is how the Bear rolled:)
  10. Great tips! This thread reminds me that I need a good rain jacket for such times. I usually stop playing when conditions bear it, but this tourney left me stranded and forced to play I'll admit unprepared. I like the ziploc idea for gloves and spare towels. Also, liked the foregoing the preshot routine and the small towels in the raincoat pocket setup. I hadn't heard the rosin bag but was shown a tack spray that a member plays with to great effect. Is the use of a a tack spray illegal as it is for NFL players (American Football for my overseas friends)? Here in upstate NY we play in quite a bit of weather, mostly cold which I handle with no issues. I don't like playing in the rain but find it a necessity at times when in tourneys. Thanks again for the tips and let me know your thoughts on the legality of use of a tack spray on gloves and grips during rain play.
  11. At last year's member/member the final round was played with threatening skies and by noon it was dribbling to drizzling. Nasty and terrible weather for everyone involved but we soldiered on through the rain in order to crown a champion. My hands/grips got progressively wetter to the point that I could not take a full natural swing without the club completely slipping straight out of my hands. I kept an umbrella over my clubs and toweled the grips obsessively to no avail. It was not fun to stand over the ball knowing that the club will spin and come flinging out of your grip. I used rain gloves but they were eventually soaked as was the spare gloves in my bag. I had no relief other than to struggle to the finish which in this case was a loss for our side. Any suggestions on keeping hands/grips/bag dry during rain? How about stickum spray? Anyone use that in wet weather to help hold the club?
  12. 2 seasons ago came back to the game seriously playing 3-4 times a week. Spent the whole seasons just working alone, chatting up the golf pro for tips, reading everything I could and lots of range time. Never, ever recoreded a score, it was a season to relax, enjoy the game and outdoors and get more consistent. Last season I started with a HC of 18.5, which was a carryover from the past. I played in the men's league and every tournament the club offered. Ended the year with a 9.7 HC. I am not sure which way I'll go this year. I really enjoyed the season of no record keeping.
  13. What in sweet molasses are you talking about?
  14. Tweaky, Not sure of the validity of your recommendation having never played them. To each his own. I just bought the CG7 after trying various makes. Absolutely loved the feel, look, and ball flight. Now I just wait for spring to begin my love affair in earnest with them! On another note, I was delighted to see your Kaiserslautern Red Devils emblem on your post. I lived in KL for 5 years and became a big fan of them. Going to one of their matches was comparable to going to an SEC football game. The passion of the fans was outstanding. FCKaaaah!!!! You will never walk alone!!
  15. I been wearing a ball cap for years but used to wear a visor from time to time. My head does get hot in the heat of the summer with a ball cap. Maybe I should get a new visor to wear? What I really need to get is a scally cap for the spring and fall playing season. That would be a look, rocking the Payne Stewart style on my noggin.
  16. I have to agree with all who have replied above. Work on the short game from 150 yds on in and don't forget the putting game. Being able to develop a consistent lag putt that would leave me with a gimme was essential to my scoring. I enter every round with the thought of no 3 putts. Never happened yet, but definitely improving.
  17. I never understood why some people love to call fake to everything they hear? Naysayers? Of course you can spin a ball back from 30 yds, especially if it is set up in the rough. You can take an accelerated whack at the ball, pop it high and watch it spin. Ball type and green conditions accentuate the action of course.
  18. 38 and sunny here today! I stopped by my local course just to tell it I missed her and would see her when the snow was gone from her long lanky doglegs:(
  19. I didn't shoot crap today! I live in disgusting western ny where it was whahoooooo 33 degrees today and miserable. God my life sucks. I can only dream of green fairways and soft summer winds. I am tired of chipping and putting in my apartment. I feel a road trip coming up.
  20. J E T S Jets Jets Jets! Pete Carroll has always been a great estimator of talent.....LOL!
  21. What a horror story, but at least you got them back! How about damage? It is reading stuff like this and being warned by golf pro's, that drove me to always, always, ship my clubs ahead of time to my hotel via FEDEX or UPS. Costs a little more but well worth the peace of mind.
  22. I would say to lay off the hooch!
  23. I used to always take my wedding ring off to play golf. Then I found out my wife was banging someone else and now I don't have to worry about taking it off because I don't wear one. She's alone and miserable now and I get to play golf whenever I want. I win......LOL I also, cannot wear sunglasses when I swing the club. I find it gives a slight depth perception distortion that alters my shot. I always put the shades on my hat before set up and then wear them when strolling down the fairway towards my next shot.
  24. Corporate puke but it pays the bills:)
  25. I agree with Leftygolfer. Browning? What the hell are people doing to their clubs. I have owned 3 sets of clubs in my lifetime and play 3-5 x per week and have never had browning or rust. Clean your clubs periodically, store them inside, don't clean them with a strong wire brush, no problems.
