  1. Well done!! What track were you playing in Calgary?
  2. Here is a link to a Father's day contest. Write a story, post a photo or a video to have a chance to win. Good luck. http://www.golftownfathersdaygetaway.com/
  3. I am heading out for a round in an hour and will have my orange pullover on in support of Rickie Fowler trying to win his first PGA event. I am hoping he has the mental game to close out this tournament. He has been in contention a few times this year only to have a somewhat lack luster final round. It will be the Rickie/Ricky show today.
  4. 25' uphill birdie putt with a slight L to R break to win the KP on men's night. Too bad I turned around and took a snowman on the next one.
  5. Tiger, Francesco Molinari, Stewart Cink. Just a wild guess
  6. I like Rickie Fowler's. Very much a raw natural swing that seems to work for him.
  7. He needs to find some consistency. One week he is finishing in the top 5 and then he follows by missing the cut. I really like watching Fowler he brings a new fresh feel to the game.
  8. You can't put a price on that. That round was 'worth' every cent you paid. That is one great memory...
  9. I am only 5'6 and 150 lbs. I can consistently hit my driver 240-260. The driver has always been my most consistent club even when I was using a stock set of Golden Rams. IMO it is all about you swing mechanics. I was fortunate that I was able to hit my driver from the beginning. Keep working at it and perhaps try some lessons. I don't think it has anything to do with your height. I hit the ball better than two of my friends who are 6' and 6'2.
  10. The kid has some style. It is about time that the world stage of golf is exposed to something a little different. Ryan Moore is another that brings a little different style. Back on topic... Rory has the experience to win. They both show (from what I have seen) a strong sense of discipline and composure on the golf course. The cool heads will help them when the time comes to win the big tournaments.
  11. You won't be disappointed after you have your clubs fitted. I am also 5'6 with a 31" wrist. I had been playing with an old set of stock clubs that my father had and I always had to choke down. At first the fitted clubs felt short for me even though I was used to choking down on my old ones. Now I love them, I have gained distance and control. I sent my mom to get fitted because she stands only 4'10 and wasn't able to swing a stock set properly. It was after talking to her that I decided to go and get fitted myself. For the price of a middle - upper end set of stock clubs, you can get fitted for about the same price.
  12. I just golfed Gold Canyon in November with all of us being 20+ hdcp. We had a fantastic time. The courses are in beautiful shape and the staff was excellent. We golfed both Sidewinder and Dinosaur Mountain while we were there and I don't have any complaints with either course. My recommendation for sure, but I don't have anything else in Phoenix to compare to. At the end of the day I don't think it really matters if the course is a little too hard for your friends. A few extra lost balls and a not so great score is better than not golfing at all. Have fun.
  13. It is what helps keep people interested in the show. Just take a look back and read this whole thread, it is all about who people like and dislike, who annoyed them who didn't. The producers create villains and heroes to captivate the audience. It wouldn't be that exciting to watch if the producers didn't carefully select the script. All the reality shows are pretty much scripted the same. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy watching the show, I just find it interesting how people will judge a person based on a t.v. show where the editors have chosen how this character will be portrayed. IMO
  14. Ireland is on my 'places I have to see' list and is quickly becoming short listed. I figure it will be the next major trip that is taken after we get the kids to one of the Disney theme parks.
  15. We just had a brutal snow storm last night. The winds created 2' to 3' drifts around the cul-de-sac. I did get to spend about 1 1/2 hours on a quad with a plow clearing out the driveways and road so the neighbors could get their vehicles out. Now I am looking outside and realizing that it will be quite awhile before we see green grass again. Sigh... I will have to be content with the Golf Channel and perhaps a spontaneous trip down to Phoenix.
  16. Well said. If the producers didn't create all of the perfect scenarios, controversy, and conflict then the show wouldn't attract as many viewers.
  17. At the end of the day it is reality t.v. The producers will play up the fact that Andrew has gotten under everyone's skin and they are going to play up the whole brother twist. It is no different than Survivor or the Amazing race, it is a show that is produced for t.v. and they are going to edit accordingly. We are going to be sick of Gipper and Tony stressing every time that each other is in the elimination round. We will also either love or hate the amount they play up the whole Andrew bad guy scenario. From a strategic point of view, Andrew has gotten into all the players heads and will benefit from that because his opponents will try too hard to beat him and forget about playing their best golf. If you just look a the golf and forget about the drama then you can enjoy the show, at least in my opinion.
  18. Congratulations!! She is a cutie.
  19. Just use the search engine on this site and you will find a bunch of threads talking about tracks in the Phoenix area.
  20. I will be teeing it up on Dinosaur Mtn. on the 13th. Do you have any pics to share? They just re-opened this past weekend from their overseed. Was it still really wet on the course?
  21. That's for sure!! Even 1 hour away in Calgary the season is only 5 - 6 months long. I guess if you are fortunate enough to head south to a warmer climate throughout the winter then the off season doesn't seem all that bad.
  22. Post some images of the most interesting, famous, challenging or memorable holes close to home. This is a picture of #4 at Banff Springs. This hole is also featured in the new Tiger Woods 10. “Stanley Thompson’s legendary Devil’s Cauldron hole (the 4th) at Banff Springs in the Canadian Rockies”. Kind of a fitting name for tonight.
  23. My Dad golfed but I wouldn't say he got me into the game. I took up the sport with a friend when I was 12. We would get a junior pass for the city courses and golf away our summer holidays. When we were not golfing we were walking through the bushes at a nearby private course looking for golf balls. We would then sell them back to the golfers for a $1 a piece. In a way, my Dad got me out of the game so to speak. I was really starting to enjoy the rounds I spent with my dad when I was in my later teens. Except for the constant ribbing and trash talk (which he knew would rattle me) they are some very cherished memories. I say memories because I lost my dad when I was 18yrs old due to cancer and seemed to stop golfing. Through the years, I would only pick up the clubs once or twice and drifted away from the game until recently. This year I realized that it is a game that absolutely love to play and wondered why I stopped playing. I am as excited to golf as I was when I was a teenager. I even went back to that private course and wandered the bushes which brought back a flood of great childhood memories. I am heading to Phoenix for my 40th birthday in two weeks and I know that I will be thinking of my father, especially if I slice it hard in to the desert as he often did.

    Golf Rant

Head to a range and keep working at it. One thing that I have always done is to keep on trying to hit the club even though you 'mentally' think that you can't hit it. I have been fortunate that my driver is one of my most consistent clubs. When I start hitting it funny, I will never put it in my bag and pull out a 3 wood off the tee. I know that I can hit it properly so I just make a few adjustments both mentally and physically and will eventually return to hitting it with out too much trouble. I was having a ton of trouble hitting my new 16 deg. hybrid earlier this year. I was topping most shots and I was really getting frustrated with it. Finally, I figured out what I was doing wrong and I enjoy pulling it out of the bag. What's the point of lugging an expensive driver around if you think you just can't hit it. Keep swinging...
  25. Well said. We should also keep strengthening our muscles while keeping up with the stretching. While I have the golf channel on, I have some 10lb weights that I use to keep up with some muscle tone. I beats holding the remote and doing nothing.
