I got a 3 and 4 hybrid in their Reva series. Only one range session thus far but they felt very good. Also got their TRX SW. For $20 it honestly looks much better than my Burner + irons that I game. Can't wait to try it out. Main reason I wanted to try their clubs are many of them are shorter than today's standards. Which helps me being I am 5' 4". For instance their drivers are 45" and not 46+ which most can't control anyway. I did return the 4h since the yardage wasn't must different than my current 4i. All he asked was why I am returning it. Told him and he said "ok, here is the return number, just put it on the box. very easy and nice to deal with !! A++ so far.

I usually play my best about 3 beers in. Takes the edge off and the 20 swing thoughts I normally have out of my head. Around beer #6 I quit caring and it becomes a party. Normally at that point I break out my phone and fire up the Pandora ap and listen to my favorite tunes (only if the course is empty). I have tried smoking once on the course and it was a bad thing. Only a couple hits and it went downhill from there. Became a giggle fest. On the other hand, my brother tokes on the way too the course, normally once one the front and once on the back, to go along with his 12 pack he brings in the cooler. Somehow, he maintains and beats me every time we play.

How long is your driver shaft (thats what she said)
erock9174 replied to kjb008's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The fitter used a Maltby Shaft Deflection scale. Basically the fitter strapped the club in and then hung a weight on the end, then as it droops there is a stiffness factor associated. He said it measured Stiff even though its a Senior shaft. He did not measure it before cutting it down an inch, so I don't have a comparison. I agree with you on SW and it being more of a personal thing. I for instance do not notice much at all. I guess what my original post should have asked was how does one get head weight back up to accomodate a shorter driver shaft, especially in today's light headed driver boom. Adding that much lead tape is not an option. If I cut the shaft down and do not increase head weight, the club will loose whip and therefore play stiffer. The fitter is DV Golf in Akron, OH He is a KSG distributor but will work on other brands. -
How long is your driver shaft (thats what she said)
erock9174 replied to kjb008's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Gents, Since this thread is dedicated to driver length and after reading all the posts its pretty much a general consensus that most players are gaming drivers well under the 46" modern driver length. So my question is, say you take a driver down from 46" to say 44.5", what are you doing to bring the swingweight back up? Reason I ask is, I currently game a Superfast 2.0 Senior flex driver. Factory its 46.5" so I had it cut down an inch to 45.5" with an undersized grip placed on it. Factory swing weight was D9. After the cutdown it now measures a C6. The fitter who cut it down, remeasured the shaft flex on his Maltby scale and the OEM Senior flex shaft now shows "stiff flex". I said is that because no weight was added back and he said, technically when you butt cut a shaft it should play slightly flexier because you are cutting the stiffest part of the shaft (the butt). ok makes sense to me....but then he said since no weight was added to the head, the shaft will now play firmer. And as I understand to get it back up from a C6 to D8 would take a whole role of lead tape which will not work. Since my swing speed is roughly 82 mph I prefer the senior flex shaft. Since I cant add that much weight back to the head after the cutdown how do i get the swingweight back to get the flex back into the shaft? Or could I just reshaft with a heavier shaft and then cut it down? I really like the 2.0's head but would like it to be around 44" long. So how does one properly build a short driver like that in this day and age of superlight heads? . -
I have a 2 hybrid (18 deg) KZG with an Apolla Steel shaft in it. I only have one range session and one round on it. I havent dialed in a distance but it probably goes about the same distance as say a 3 or 4 graphite shafted hybrid for me. Although the steel shaft is I believe a firm flex which is too stiff for me (bought it on clearance for $49). So I am thinking about either putting a reg flex graphite or steel shaft in it to bring some whip to it. It definately has a much heavier feel to it. Off the tee it felt really good.

TaylorMade Superfast 2.0 Driver
erock9174 replied to darkhunter139's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I don't think he'd be my buddy anymore. lol I began gaming the 2.0 in Oct and even though its been cold out I have hit my longest drives of the year. Still working on my swing but when I hit them on-center it adds 15-20 yards easy. Never had a driver do that before. Can't wait for the summer when it dries out and flies even farther. I shortened mine an inch and only had a chance to play with it once like that. -
Another option would have been the Adams A4's at Dicks. 4-GW for $199. Had a $25 coupon and got them for $185 out the door with tax. Couldn't even find them used for cheaper than $200.

Nickent 4DX Evolver - swapping out shaft
erock9174 replied to Kieran123's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Interesting, I bought one from RBG with a UST Proforce V2 High Launch with a senior flex. Granted its a senior flex but does feel much softer than a normal sr flex. Downside is I butt cut it to play at 45". Might need to tip cut it and make it play a little firmer. downside is my swingweight would be super low and the shaft characteristics would be very off. -
Nickent 4DX Evolver - swapping out shaft
erock9174 replied to Kieran123's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Also Nickent made 2 versions of the Evolver. My guess if you bought it off Rockbottomgolf (as did I) it probably came with the hossel that allows for easy swapping of shafts but is not adjustable. There is also another version with the CYG hossel which allows face angle changes and perhaps even loft adjustments. If you have one of the above versions, but the hossel adapter (ebay), buy the shaft you want and have a clubbuilder install the shaft into the adapter and attach it to the head using the wrench. -
Hybrid swing maybe good not sure
erock9174 replied to orrin75's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
So which is correct because I've seen videos on youtube that go both ways...? do you hit a hybrid like an iron (ie. take a divot)? or try and sweep it like a fairway wood? -
To add some info to my last post. The driver was a Womens Callaway Solaire with "A Flex" which the sticker says that its designed for Women with a more "Athletic" swing. First and only time I've ever seen an "Athletic ladies flex"

I have played yellow balls off an on this season and for the most part liked them. Very easy to follow the flight path off a tee shot. The downside I had with them was in the fall here in OH many of the leaves are yellow so it actually blended in more with the leaves than a white ball did so I switched back to white for fall ball. I tried the orange Bridgestone e6's and their dull color I thought was pretty tough to find when not in the fairway. Another cheaper option for yellow balls are the new Pinnacle Golds that came out roughly a month or so ago. 15 balls for roughly $16. They are not the dull yellow like the Top Flites. They have a slight greenish cast to them with some pearl effect mixed in. Kinda neat looking.

Whats next for the Taylormade in 2012?
erock9174 replied to Made 2 Taylor's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Also heard their new balls are going to be called RocketBalz. although after initial reaction to the name I read they might be retooling the name. -
I was at Dicks the other day and noticed what I think was a Callaway Women's driver that had a shaft that said "designed for women with faster swing speeds". Felt pretty much like a men's senior flex to me. As a shorter male golfer with a slower swing speed this almost had me intrigued as I am always looking for a shorter driver with some flex to it but not too whippy. Downside they don't have a launch monitor so I was unable to hit it. It was on clearance for $99. Seemed like a steal.

PlaneFinder Swing Trainer with Hank Haney
erock9174 replied to elevategolf's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Figured I would share my 2 cents after purchasing the Plane Finder this past weekend. First off I don't really have a handicap. I play to roughly a 91 stroke average. Sometimes in the 80's, sometimes in the low 100's. After receiving some swing instruction this season I was struggling with how to properly draw the club back. One lesson said to take it straight back, the other more inside. So I felt I was always in no mans land and was hoping that the plane finder would put me in the correct backswing position. Instructions to build were not the best. Was easier to build just using the picture on the box. Nonetheless took maybe 10 minutes to build. I read online where the recommend starting out on the easiest setting with a 7i. Took 5 swings and not one gate hit. Switched to a 5i, same results. Moved it to the Medium setting. Same thing with both the 7i and 5i. I actually had to move it to the most difficult setting to finally hit a gate. Also read where if you can make it down to the hardest setting you probably don't need the device. I am 5' 4" and I noticed that for my longer clubs (hybrid, driver, etc) I pretty much had to lean the bars over on a severe angle and made hitting the ball feel really awkward. With the 5 and 7i the bars were more upright and felt more natural. So what did it teach me about my swing and helping me with my "no man's land"? I noticed that if I drew the club back straight or slightly inside I never hit a gate either way. So I guess my takeaway was pretty much on plane no matter how I drew it back. This did provide me some comfort that I can now draw the club back slightly inside (which was the most comfortable to me). So for this I thank the plane finder but it wasn't enough for me to keep it. So with all this being said I broke it down, neatly tucked it back in the box and took it back to Golf Galaxy for a full refund. I will say this though, if you struggle with an outside in swing, I could see where the plane finder would correct that because you would hit the outside bar on the downswing. So for somebody who fights a slice (due to the outside/in path), a new person to golf or a +25 handicapper this device would probably benefit that group. -
Any idea what her driver swing speed is? If 80mph or over then yes she is probably in too light a flex if she is playing a ladies flex. The best bet would be to take her a clubfitter in your area and have her swing speed measured on a shot analyzer. I saw a high school girl swinging in the simulator at Dicks the other day. She had what I thought was a very strong swing for a girl her size. The guy there had her swinging men's Senior flex which are inbetween Ladies and Mens Regular flex.

Anyone gaming these? Just picked up some (yellow version) for November ball here in Ohio. Couldn't beat the price $15.99 for 15 balls. The guy at the local shop said Pinnacle was trying to marry their Dimension ball from earlier this year with their prior distance ball. So basically long with a softer feel. I know their Dimension ball was on the Golf Digest hot list. I know the surface of the ball feels very slick to me. Very reminiscent of the Noodle Easy Distance. Will be put into play tomorrow.

While I don't have the answer to your question I did want to share my thoughts on the 2 drivers and my experience. I have roughly an 82 to 85 mph swing (depending on the day and how warmed up I am). I was looking to purchase either the r11 or the 2.0. I have a very slow tempo and prefer a Senior flex so that is what I tested, 12* (r11 adjusted to 13*) and a 2.0 13* I used both the simulator at Dicks and at Golf Galaxy and on both I saw a significant increase in yardage and ball speed with the 2.0. 120ish mph ball speed with the r11 and 197yd average and 210 max 130ish mph ball speed with the 2.0 and 210 yd average and 231 max Needless to say I got the 2.0 in my bag and not looking back. I normally cut my drivers down as I am only 5' 4" but instead just gripping down and hitting the fairway pretty well thus far. Even was able to smack one out there 235 which is crazy long for me and that was on a wet course. Cant wait until Aug next year. I did noticed that this driver (even being a 13* HT) has a very mid piercing shot pattern. Normally all the high loft drivers I play have a very high shot and I feel I lose alot of distance and roll.

I need a longer ball
erock9174 replied to lugonza_2001's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Just watch the compression factor on the e5. I was seriously considering this ball as Golf Digest gave it rave reviews in the 2011 spring ball review edition. However just read last week where golfballtest.org did their semi annual compression ratings and the e5 (2010) had a 103 rating which is right in the middle of the Pro V1's (2011) (99 rating) and Pro V1x's (107 rating). So the e5 basically has roughly the same compression rating as a tour ball. From what I understand their rating is roughly equivalent to the swing speed mph necessary to compress the ball. With that in mind your sub 90 mph swing may not be enough. Just for comparison the e6 (2010) is a 71 and would be a much lower compression ball according to their tests. The e7 was also 103 same as the e5. The lowest compression tour ball they tested was Bridgestone Tour 330 RXS (2010) with a 78 rating. Here are the full ratings sheet http://www.golfballselector.com/pdf/GBS_CompressionHardness_Test_090811_v8.11a.pdf -
Amen to the Champion line at Target. For cold weather golf this year I bought their base layer long sleeve shirt (moisture wicking material) that fits tight but doesn't feel tight (if that makes sense). I throw either a polo or tshirt over top of it. Then they make a light/medium layer jacket that fits pretty nice and snug (great for golf because it doesn't get caught up during a swing). 2 thumbs up to Target !! I got both for around $42 with tax. Last time I golfed it was in the low 40's and windy. When the sun popped out I got a little warm and removed the base shirt. As the wind picked up and sun went behind a cloud holy crap did I realize how warm that base shirt kept me warm and kept the wind off my skin. I immediately thew it back on and was nice a toasty again. Also, another cheap option I found yesterday was at Marshalls. They sell alot of Nike, Adidas, UA and other name brand base shirts for roughly $15-25.

Actually Noodle's are made by Taylormade. Yesterday I played a Noodle Easy Distance and a Top Flite d2 Distance ball. Since I was the only one on the course I hit 2 drives one with each ball. When I caught them both flush they had about the same amount of yardage. Course was soggy so anything was stopping on the green. -
With the recent price drops this might be a relevant thread again so I figured I would post my driver shopping experience today. I don't swing very hard (around 83 on average and maybe upper 80's if the stars align with my swing, full turn, good release etc.). Also I am 5' 4" so longer clubs tend to scare me, lol I hit the following on 2 different monitors today. R11 - 12*; closed setting on sole plate; 1 deg of loft added - My average distance was about 187 - longest 210 SF 2.0 HT 13* - I was seeing about 203 average and even got a couple out to 230 when I made perfect contact. 230 is very very long for me. I normally get all my shafts cut down to 43"-44" range but not this time. I will just grip down so I am not fooling around and messing up the swing weight. If I get it to the course and it becomes a slice monster I will probably have it reshafted with a shaft that plays a little shorter.

Nickent 4dx cb irons vs maxfli c3 vs burner plus
erock9174 replied to robmick33's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can't vouch for the maxfli's or nickents but back in Jan I bought the Burner + irons. At the time they were selling for $399 and with coupon I got them for $350 + another $100 or so in fitting expenses (lie adjustments, cut down, regripped). Anyway, I narrowed my search to the burner plus, Ping G10's and Cobra S2 Max. All 3 felt good but on the shot tracker I was getting roughly 5 yards longer with the same swing speed with the TM's. Guess perhaps the shaft was working a little for my swing than the other two. Don't regret the purchase. I clean them each round and they look pretty new. I probably have over 25 rounds with them this summer and probably over 20 range sessions. Last year my average round score was rougly 96-97 ish. This year I am right away 90. -
Gents I was talking to a club builder in my area and I mentioned I wanted to try out the tour striker and he claimed that the only thing the aid promotes is hot to hit knockdown type shots. He also said this is the same concept taught with the Stack and Tilt method. Said if I want to hit the ball like Paul Azinger then these will work for me but he didn't recommend it. Any truth to these statements he made?

erock9174 replied to kjb008's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Interesting tidbit. Hit about 5 different drivers on the simulator at golf galaxy today. My normal driver swing speed average is around 82. I noticed when i picked up a 43" driver it actually increased up to 85-86 mph. Distance increased too. Since I am short I feel like I can take more of a backswing and can really get my hands through the ball with the 43" driver. I had my Adams cut down even more today to 43 1/4". curious to see what it does for me. I just cant seem to get my hands through the ball with a longer driver and everything is a push or push slice. I saw some chart that Wishon put out and with my wrist to floor measurement he claims i should be under 43". I think 42.5" was the exact measurement. that seems awfully short.
