  1. I finally went to larger grips. When I switch to from standard to mid size my gloves last 5 fold what they used to. It's not always about the player but it usually is.
  2. go tot he range and learn to hit the darn thing. There is no substitute for work. I promise if you hit a few hundred balls with it you'll learn to get it air born.
  3. LM numbers are a great resource of information, however they are easily manipulated and I wouldn't trust any of them from a guy trying to sell something. Most places have no clue how to calibrate them properly so this source of great information is only as good as the guy who sets it up, which make the whole process meaningless most of the time.
  4. This is a mental more than a physical thing. If you have done this pretty consistently for years then it may be a hard habit to break. It kinda like a 10 footer for birdie is a lot harder to make than a10 footer for double. When your putting for double your mind set is nothing but I gotta make this when your putting for birdie most players get up there and say to themselves don't miss it. One thought is all positive and the other is all negative. If you think your way through playing all 18 holes like you play the first hole you'll be better off. How do you get there? The answer to that is different for everyone. It may just take the experience of getting through a few times and you'll forget all about it. Or you'll carry that baggage to every round and never get over it. Play each hole as it's own event where the goal is par.
  5. First make sure you have the proper shaft, ie, taper or paralel. find a ferrule that closely matches your iron outside diameter, makes things easier for a DIY'er Removing isn't a problem any more as you most likely do not have pins in the iron heads. I prefer a welding glove and a torch. I generally cut off the ferrules first so I don't need clean up much on the heads. Once the head is removed clean out the bore as well as you can while the head is still hot. A round wire brush works pretty well in a cordless drill. Make sure you have the stepping chart for that iron and the flex you wish to be. after that some gluing weight checking and ferrule finishing. Finishing the ferrule that is close to the iron o.d. is s imply a matter of shining it up with some acetone and a lint free rag. Not an easy thing to do well but you can practice on the clubs before you remove them. Good luck
  6. Mine might be 22 or 23 but I actually played with a guy who literally had 18 putts, two chip ins and few greens He made a 12 footer on the final hole for par to have 18 putts and his career low of 74. Keep in mind this is a 15 handicap. It was fun to watch. The pressure really started getting to him when i mentioned it on the 16th hole, my bad.
  7. Launch monitor numbers can be off so far they mean nothing. Launch angle ranging form 13 degree to 2 degrees? These can't be center hits. 116 SS with under 3K spin at -7*!? Not likely. I would say the monitor you were using is about as useless a t's on a bull.
  8. VP Drug testing laboratory... Yes I have heard all the stories about everything to do with drugs, haven't hear a new one in over a year.
  9. Current clubs in the basement Wilson Pi5 3-pw Wood Brothers Forged blades 3- pw 1983 Maxfli Australian blades Brand new Still in the box 3-pw one set in the bag Callaway X forged 2009 3-pw
  10. I always believe that equipment is just a tool. If you hit a draw driver straight, so be it. If you have the money and want the club nobody here should change your mind. Most of the guys that say you're cheating yourself spend countless hours looking for just the right fit for their game. While I am a purist I don't see the problem with a draw biased driver if it helps you enjoy the game. Hybrids are almost so easy to hit they should be illegal. I have one, ya know why? Cause they are legal. I don't see the problem.
  11. Once you get your putts /GIR down to the 1.7 area that will help as well. Short is a different animal different shots require vastly different approaches and the typical proper blast out of a bunker is so inordinate compared tot he rest of the golf swings it great to get a better feel for it. Good luck. practice always pays off, if it doesn't you're not practicing enough.
  12. Short game is the single most important for most that can't break 90. From what I see of 15-20 handicaps at our club, some think their short game is just fine because they are blissfully unaware that getting up and down 30 percent of time sucks. Get the ball ball up and down a minimum of 65% of time and you'll find your scores dropping dramatically. It's the easiest and cheapest thing to work on. I usually take three balls and chip until I chip in two balls. Some days it takes me an hour and others only a few minutes. I don't stop until I do. It really is amazing how well you can chip when you force yourself to try to make everyone. Mentally this narrows your margin of error as the goal is smaller is far more define than just trying to get it close.
  13. I have used a long putter for 20 years. I had the yips so bad in my late teens and early twenties it was the only thing that saved me. The long putter in my opinion has a couple advantages. One, the ability to be standing more upright gives me a better view of the line. Two the stroke is a one handed operation. I employ a piston type method whereas my left hand simply acts as a hinge and my right does all the work. I make an effort to make a straight back and straight through stroke, personal preference. Nothing else moves in my stroke accept my right hand. I am a pretty good putter although most of good putting is in your head. If think you'll make it you probably will. If you think for a split second you wont then you don't have a chance. I use a 50" Pole Kat putter. It's not fancy but it's easy to line up and that I believe is the key. If you can be confident in your alignment thats the best mental start you can have over any putt. Since your putter is only 45 inches I am not sure how you would use it. Is the lie angle such that it is most likely set up to be a belly putter? At that length it probably is. I have tried belly putters but I find my hands still fight each other.
  14. Any animal wood head cover is fine, irons covers make guys look like a douche bag. IMO
  15. I was thinking the same thing. No offense Kennay92. Golf is a journey brother. The mind has much more to say about what you shoot than your hands and arms. Eliminate any expectations, go out and play golf. Hit each shot completely indifferent to where it goes or how it got there. Focus on the what you want the ball to do and not what your swing is doing. Also... did you turn in that 51? I know a lot of young guys that don't turn in their horrible rounds. They all count and they all determine what your handicap is.
  16. Win at least 2 of three CC invitationals I play in next year. Play and and finish in the top ten state amateur. I don't get to play in it every year. Get my handicap back a to a 0 Being a +2 currently is a joke, I am not that good. Our clubs rating is excessively high and causes the handicaps to be a bit lower than reality. Get some distance back with my driver, I have somehow lost 25 yards or more.
  17. Rory seems to be OK with it. That's good enough for me. Rory was ranked 10th in the World when he started in the US, Hardly a rookie. If you asked him he didn't even think he should be considered, I think that was taken into consideration.
  18. Blades in my opinion are vastly over rated. I have owned several sets of true blades, Hogans, Maxfli Australian blades, Mizunos and my most recent Wood Brothers. I play with Wilson's Pi5 now and haven't looked back. They offer the same thin top line I like with little or no offset and they are by far easier to hit now that i don't play and practice as often as I used to. Golf is a game where ego and performance have an unbelievable ability to clash. I use what works best and for me it's cavity backs that are traditional looking. I am sure at some point in this game there was a discussion regarding whether or not Hickory shafts were better than steel. There are not but I'll assume for many years after steel was introduced there were still plenty of good players that insisted that Hickory was the way to go simply because they couldn't give up what was comfortable for them. Going from cavity backs to blades is a step backwards in my opinion. In the end you have to be the one to decide what works best for you. For me I like the knowledge that my cavity back 3 iron will give me a better chance at full and solid contact.
  19. Footjoy Classics professional are great. They are intended to be a teaching shoe but I wear them for everything, wearing a pair right now and if not for the snow and 30 degree temps I could stop at the club and play nine with no problem. They are a bit pricey but good shoes usually are.
  20. None of us are perfect, I am certainly no exception. But I do know that I won't be cheating on my wife now or any time in the future. I can say that without any reservation. I also make that statement knowing my wife although very attractive to me is no super model. Tiger is human, but he is also an idiot to believe he could get away with this type of behavior. Any more they all get caught eventually. It's not for us to forgive him it is for his wife to do so if she chooses. We are not his judge but we can certainly point out what a D.A. he is. I think Jesper summed it up pretty well, "I guess he's not as good a guy as we thought he was."
  21. They are ever bit as useful as a four leaf clover.
  22. Blake is a tool. His problem is obvious. He obviously has something on his resume that got him on the show but he can't handle any pressure. I'll be glad to see him go and Mr. " my brother is Pat Perez" can go with him. Neither have shown any solid consistent skills and both are complete (insert picture of donkey here)
  23. I am not sure the best measure is solely major wins, although it's certainly and indicator. What I find equally impressive is this... Jack Nicklaus majors: 164 starts, 18 wins, 19 2nd place finishes, 46 top 3 finishes, 57 top 5 & 73 top 10. If Tiger can match that he'll deserve to be the greatest ever. He probably will and we are fortunate enough to watch it unfold.
  24. What it means to me is... meaningless crap. Every few years somebody comes out with the latest and greatest thing. 5 years from now no one will remeber or hear much about stack and tilt. It's bee that way in golf forever.
  25. Blake is a complete tool. Some of these guy just plain suck. The one common thread of most of these guys and why they are not successful is they choke and choke big. I don't care for Giuliani but he has some game and hasn't melted down yet. I don't think this season gets interesting until the final 3 or 4. Right now its just amateur hour.
