^^^^ Agree Sounds like you are just not making solid contact. Do you happen to know your driver swing speed? Could be off-center with the big dog too. How are your divots? Does your ball flight just look like a huge flop shot or more like a low riser with a floating descent?

Why the change? You have a 5 handicap. Show us the swing vids.

Adams Speeline FW-Hybrid. How should I swing It?
bjw181 replied to andemw01's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I dunno, what degree is it? I can't hit hybrids too well, so I can't say (they just don't feel as solid as irons to me.) I would guess you should sweep it like a 3W. When I miss with the 3W or 5W, its usually because I'm too steep. -
Cant say without a video...Generic answer = slow down. I like to feel like gravity takes the club from the top to the finish. I also like to feel like my body weight is my swing's power supply, not my arms and hands. You will be surprised how much FASTER your swing will be simply by keeping a smooth tempo! Also, an on-plane takeaway is a must. Bottom line, I bet you are just tensing up due to the ball being on the ground.

http://www.kevinhaime.com/_documents...1223122935.pdf Good article on how the legs "react" in the backswing. http://www.myrtlebeachgolftrips.com/...tail.aspx?t=13 Video

Just announced that Michelle Wie is now on the team. What do you guys think? Maybe she should try and get on the Ryder Cup team...lol.

Yea holding on to the club is tough. I threw my 3 iron about 50 feet in the air and 100 yards down the driving range the other day when I was warming up for a round...This heat is terrible. But at least us southerners can play all year long!
-
Those are all good points. When I broke into a single digit handicap, it was an ahah moment with my iron play. For me, it was eliminating excess movement in my swing. I focus on a simple turn back and turn through.

Its been up to 100 degrees with full on humidity here in Texas. There is so much sweat I can barely hold on to my 3 wood without putting it into a death grip. Plus, I go through gloves every other day it seems because they get crusty and loose their grip. How do you guys beat the heat?

My swing eval from Goiftec (videos and pics)

Your face is a bit shut still. Your over the top move caused by your inside takeaway got better. And congrats to your hair. -
If you want to play on any tour, you are going to need as much access as possible to golfing facilities. Go with the membership. You will be playing against people who play 9 holes a day and practice for hours upon hours. Seeing as you are a 5 handicap, im guessing you have a good grasp of the swing and need less range time. Focus on putting and actual course play. If it were me in your shoes, I would get the membership solely for the reduced green fees. And I would, again, focus more on actual playing rather than range time. Play with friends who are better than you and wager something on your round to make it as close as possible to the level of competitiveness that you will experience on tour. The wager can be as simple as beers at the 19th or $5 a hole.

My grandfather would do this. I was always amazed at how good his short game was.

But... Ouch. Was she playing from the tips? lol. I've played with someone like that. I asked how long he had played and he said about 1/2 year. Had the worst swing I had ever seen. If a lawn chair would describe a bad swing, his would be like unfolding a camping tent. But he could hit the ball consistently somehow and still make pars.

Show me the swing video...now. This was my reaction... http://www.laughters.org/wp-content/...02/cutedog.jpg

Do my scores indicate anything to you guys?
bjw181 replied to Orange's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think you are improving. Harvey says a golfer lowers his scores in blocks and I totally believe him. You will have a swing breakthrough at some point which will reduce how badly you miss. Then you will be amazed when you are looking at an 81 on your scorecard for the first time! But you will also be hooked on the game for life. Your swing will haunt your thoughts, you will spend more time playing, and your wife/gf will hate you...so know what you are getting into, padawan... And consistency is probably one of the hardest things to learn in golf. Ive been playing since my pre-teens and I still don't feel I have a finished polished swing. The swing is always a work in progress for me. -
Set up horizontally to the ground rather than 90 degrees to the earth (j/k :)). Work more on a one-piece takeaway. Little bit of a chicken wing through impact. Keep your right foot on the ground a little bit longer on your downswing (I try to feel like my sholders and hips are turning back to the ball at the same time on the downsing. My hips will still lead because of my backswing, but it feels like I start down with both at the same time when my rhythem is perfect).

Funny, I just got back from the range and I was very solid with my 3 iron out to about 215 or 220 yards. But when I tried to hit the 7-iron it was very inconsistent and steep. I think I was standing a bit too close to the ball with the hopes to get a little extra spin and control. But when I do this, I loose distance control. One swing will be a bit steeper and ill loose it long and right while another swing would be thinner and fly too high... I think my problem is trying to muscle my short irons too much. Ive been playing a while and I know trying to muscle with the long irons is disasterous. But I still seem to think I can muscle the shorter irons. Try slowing it down a bit. I don't know your swing but if you have a more rotational swing like me, short irons can be tough...

His other follow through swings are more on plane and around his body. The ball will bore more through the air on a lower trajectory.

how long is too long at the range
bjw181 replied to mtsalmela80's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Its never too long for me. I've been known to spend morning to sunset with 18 holes and lots of putting practice. The key is to take frequent breaks. When you get tired, your swing gets lazy and thats when mistakes creep in. Make sure you stay well stretched too. Nothing worse than a pulled back muscle. -
If you pause at impact you are way up on your right foot. I don't know if its something your fine with doing or not. I try to keep my right foot on the ground until just before impact. I tend to do the same move you do, which causes me to spin out sometimes with a weak push result.
-
1) Your right arm always bends at the top of the swing, like carrying a server's tray. I think your pro just wants to widen your swing by keeping the left arm straight for a longer time in the back swing. 2) Turn through the shot. You are probably swaying your hips instead of turning them.

The title of this thread. I laughed.
-
Hitting a chip off the toe deadens the impact. You can use a bigger swing which equals more accuracy.
-
I think you are just going through a major swing change. Inconsistencies will be there for a while until you can ingrain the new swing into your muscle memory. Just take it slow and don't force anything or add too many other swing changes. You will work it out. Better players tend to miss with a hook/push so that should make you feel better!
