  1. I'm now a 7, used to be a 3, short game, short game, short game. I can't putt at all anymore. Used to practise chipping and putting after playing and wouldn't leave until I chipped at least one in. Something that I think is over looked, become a good fairway wood player. I play with a group of guys every week and none of them can do anything with a 3 wood from the grass. I don't practise much anymore but try to play 3 times a week in the Iowa golf season and I try to hit the range a little bit in the spring. I don't mind going out by myself and play a couple balls. I also have a net in the garage that I use on weekends in the winter. Takes time and practise.
  2. You're biased and you're wrong the only people who should be role models are parents. I want my sons following my lead rather than someone they see on TV once in a while. Tiger a loser? Really? Some people don't know the difference between people laughing with them and people laughing at them.... There is a difference
  3. Do they have a rules official with every group? If not, why not?
  4. 17th at Quarry Oaks, Ne with my 3 boys
  5. I never post but read a lot of posts, so here goes. I'm 51, play in a small town, 12,000 people county, and board member of my course. Our course is like several have described, we could be the poster child for golf course problems. We are far and away the nicest and most challenging course in our county and one of the nicest 9 hole courses in NW Iowa. But we are old, white, and I would wager like a lot of clubs with a membership make up like ours, failing. A club house that was over sized when it was originally built and now with shrinking membership, falling apart. We can't afford to maintain it and because over the years the members didn't want to raise dues the debt is out of control. It's always easier to just "put it on the note" and pretend things will get better next year, next year never comes. I voted economy, real wages haven't increased in years and younger people have very little extra cash for golf. My second vote would be image, the snob attitudes, they permiate every private club, we joke about the snobs at our course by calling it Bushwood, and they never get it. JMHO
  6. Jeff have you played Quarry Oaks? Love that course Terry from Cherokee Iowa
  7. Wondering why I don't see anything about this club. For years I played almost everyday then kids got older and the usual sports and school got in the way so I quit for 12 years. Kids are gone now so I've started playing again but now it's 2-3 times a week. I'm a club short with my irons but I've had them forever and love'em so I'll keep playing them. My old driver just wasn't getting me up with the rest of my group so a change was needed. Now I'm left handed living in rural Iowa, the closest golf shop is an hour away and they have 3 drivers for me to hit. First I bought a Callaway, didn't like it and no longer than my 15+ year old Callaway. Sold it and bought the TM Super fast TP with an upgraded shaft, still no longer than my old driver. Getting frustrated at this point and told the wife I wanted to try one more. Yes I have a super wife!! I've had my Super ADX Yonex irons since they first came out and have loved them since the first day I hit them 20 years ago. Ordered what I think was about the only left handed Nanospeed 3i I could find. Fellas you have got to try one of these! This thing flat rips it. I've gone from 10-15 yards behind to 10-15 in front. Probably the most telling thing I can tell you is this. Of the regular guys I play with 1 has ordered the 3 wood, because he can't hit a 3 wood and we give him all kinds of grief about it. Another who has only played TM for as long as I've known him is actively bidding on this driver as I write this. Awesome club, I'm hitting from spots I've never hit from before. THANK YOU YONEX!!
  8. I'm left handed and most of my clubs are 20+ years old. I may be an ass, but I let nobody hit my clubs and I don't ask to hit theirs.
  9. I have a Pioneer Kuro Plasma, can't beat it.
  10. My son lived in Fayetteville for a while, we went to visit him, I told him to get the h**l out there, what a s**t hole.
  11. Myself and a small group of investors raise Wagyu cattle, you may know it as Kobe beef, nothing compares to it. Far and away the best beef in the world.
  12. I played in a best ball today, 50 degrees, never saw the sun, I would guess 90% of the people there wore jeans, along with our long sleeve t shirts, sweatshirts, and wind breakers. Some wore stocking hats ( wish I had brought one). People need to lighten up, I don't really care what you wear, fix your divots, repair your ball marks, put your phone on vibrate, keep up or let faster people play through, do all that and I don't have a problem. If we want golf courses to be maintained it takes money and a input of new players to help support them. You can chase away younger people by being an old fogey or you can be the cool old guy they'll play with. I prefer to be the old cool guy.
  13. Ok, 49 years old, started golf at 30, played almost everyday from April thru Oct., quit at forty, 3 sons out for every sport, no time. Director of a Grocery distribution center, twice elected County Supervisor, serving my second term, ran for office because I vowed I wouldn't let any republicans go unchallenaged if there was anything I could do about it. Known as the supervisor that gets things done and not afraid to take on sacred cows. Might be the most liberal person you'll ever meet, leave me alone, I'll leave you alone. Dog lover on our third Yorkie, the most demanding dogs you'll ever have, they crave constant attention and have the heart of a lion. It's funny watching the 5 lb furballs with no fear. My wife and I schedule our lunch hours around the dog. Best friends are my 4 brothers and my 3 sons, talk to at least one of them everyday. Green Bay Packers stockholder, die hard FSU fan.
  14. Used to coach little league, at the end of every practise I'd pitch to'em for an hour or so, they loved trying to hit my lefty curve ball.
  15. I like the concept, but the courses should be setup tougher. I'd like to see winning scores in the 5-8 under range. Just a hair easier then US Open conditions. The tour in general needs tougher rough, I don't like seeing guys bombing away and missing fairways because the rough doesn't penalize them enough. Let'em think about pulling the driver out at times. I don't mean 500 yd par 4's, 450-475 with serious rough would do. Admit it we're all waiting to see the guy who has to make a 15ft putt at the end for $10 mil.
  16. Take being left handed and live in rural America a few weeks ago I decided I wanted a new driver, called the "local" golf shop, 60 miles away to see what they had, one TM, one Cal, when I asked about getting fitted, he replied that they don't do that for woods?????? Only irons, needless to say I didn't bother going. Went back to the usual route, buy something on Ebay, hope I like it or in the garage it goes. The other thing about being left handed is everyone on the course knows who you are when your playing, I'm one of 2 at our course. I don't play with a glove, could never get one...
  17. We live in the internet era and sponsors want to protect their image, a massive letter/email campaign to them rather than the tour would have an effect. It isn't like the LPGA has a lot of clout. If sponsors feel they are tied to a tour which sweeps cheating under the rug the tour is going to have a problem. I just started playing again after a 10 year layoff. The group I now play with all fluffed it up in the rough before one of them commented one night that I didn't. I told him "no I don't, that's not how the game is played" Not that I'm some holier then though type, but if I shoot a good score I don't want it to be a " I shot 71 today, but I fluffed it on 7, or I didn't count that penalty for putting it in the water, etc. now they all play it in the rough as they find it, the way the game is played. They have to punish these ladies so hard that current and future players won't even consider cheating, that's th ewhole deal, not this event but how they will proceed in the future. Just my anal opinion.
  18. I just recieved my Superfast TP with the Fujikura Motore F1 75 shaft, 9 1/2 degree, went straight to the course, I wouldn't say it's longer than my old Yonex Cyberbrid 10 1/2 degree but a lot straighter for me. A fairway finding machine.
  19. Few weeks ago, playing at White Fish Resort in Montana, last hole, I bury my ball in a greenside bunker on the last hole, right at the lip. I just started playing again this year after a 10 year break so things aren't as good as they once were. Anyway, I approach my ball as a group of 8 or so Japanese tourists are walking along the 18 green back to their rooms. Somehow, with one foot out of the bunker, knee almost touching the ground, I dig this thing out 6 feet from the pin, the tourist stop and applaud, yelling great shot, etc. Naturally, while trying to be Joe Cool I missed the putt!!
  20. You build a heated 10 1/2 foot ceiling garage :) Keep in mind those plastic practise balls will put some nasty dents in your garage door insulation! Some of us found out the hard way:(
  21. Not this year but....Years ago FSU wanted a home and home against Ne, Ne refused, Fsu played 4 at NE, beat'em twice. Being from Iowa, we hate Ne. All through the eighties and 90's it was FSU on the road playing anybody, anytime, year in year out, toughest schedule in the country. They are the team that started the ESPN on campus shows. Took the family on vacation years ago, during the Dieon era, stopped at FSU on the way home. The receptionist told us if we would have stopped a week earlier, on the way down, we could have seen the spring game. Seeing the disapointment in my kids faces, she made a call. In a flash an old janitor appeared, he says, " lets go I got keys to everything ". We got a personal tour of the entire complex, Bobby's office, weight room, locker room, kids got to hold players jersey's for pics, etc. Go Noles Baby!!!
  22. I've played my Yonex irons forever, quit playing for 10 years, knocked the dust off, new grips, I'm usually using the same club or one less than people I play with. Of course being left handed and living in the middle of no where Iowa doesn't give you many options. I just bought a Honma 3 wood, guess I like the Japanese stuff. It'd be like a death in the family if something ever happened to the irons :)
  23. That was my thought, isn't part of the point of these courses to have poor slob hacks like myself want to play a round there? I have no desire to play that course.
  24. 90, with the wife, that adds 5 strokes :) while on vacation in Montana, Meadowlake resort, awesome course. Played Whitefish Country Club also, Love to live there.
  25. Have to say Jack and the players of Jack's era, when's the last time we saw a 1 iron on tour?
