  1. Never played Trophy Lake (heard of it) but yeah, Druid's Glen is an amazing course. A very tough challenge from the tips too. The tips are only 7100, but rated 75.1/144! Quite a challenge for being so short. I expect a course rated like that to be more like 7400. I love the view of Mt. Rainer it really adds to the whole experience. The only thing I dislike is how wet the course is all the time. Last time I played it was in July but it was still very wet. I think they over water it.
  2. I don't agree with that Iacas. That's simply because I suck when I have to wait 10 minutes on a tee box. I'd rather play a short, successful (++ to fun factor), low stress round. Besides, I play fairly slow anyways. If I'm in a two some and a 6500+ course don't expect us to finish in under 4 hours. The marshal tried to move us along twice last Friday when I played at The Home Course in WA, but I am not going to start not reading putts and going through my normal routine just to catch up to the obviously too speedy group in front of me. What I won't do, however, is make the group behind me have to wait on the tee for more than 2 minutes. Because I know how much I hate that and how that slows down play. If you haven't hit the ball within 2 minutes of the green clearing you just weren't preparing for the shot while waiting for the green to clear.
  3. Yeah, I guess in the video you guys were going just past P2 sort of floating into the downswing. So that video must have been teaching how to do a short pitch if you didn't want the hands to go past the right hip. That floaty motion looks like it produces a high soft shot.
  4. I actually have this problem with the driver. I close the clubface down sometimes when I already have a pretty nice in to out path. Then the ball starts straight (or even pulls) and just hooks into the rough left. The more PUSH, the less draw. So if you really are over drawing the ball try to get that face even more open. I already stated two ways to do so (that I know of) but I am still working on this myself. But don't open the face too much or you will start push fading. Yeah once you get a camera and film your swing you can make a thread called My Swing (jl923) and its likely a lot of people will help you out.
  5. Zeph what's the best way you have found to do that? I've seen people hold up their putter but that just doesn't work for me.
  6. What would you use for a 50y pitch and how far would you take back the hands? Surely you couldn't hit it 50y with that minimal hand and arm movement ike you used in the video? I'd imagine you'd have to be at least P3 to hit it that far. Or can you really develop that much power from a P2 position?
  7. a forward leaning club shaft at impact is when the grip and entire shaft are pointed more toward the target. this is achieved by the hands being ahead of the ball at impact. the further ahead the hands are, the more forwward leaning clubshaft. take a normal stance and square the club at address. then push your hands toward the target while leaving the clubface on the ground. Notice how the clubface opens as you push the hands toward the target. This is the correct way to hit the ball anyways as it ensures minimal flipping. If you are hitting a push draw then I would say you aren't far off. But the fact you are overdrawing the ball (if the ball can't stay on the fairway because it hops and rolls left) simply means you're swing path is too in to out relative to your club face. It would be hard to tell without a high FPS down the line swing what you are really doing. But if you insist that you really are pushing the ball, but it is drawing too much, then you likely have a very flat in to out swing. But really it's hard to believe you could hit a BIG push draw (you say sometimes you are pushing it as much as 50y. are you really, or are you push fading it 50 yards?) and still be over hooking it. Maybe I am misunderstanding you're problem. I think I am. To be honest, a push draw is an ideal shot because you are coming from the inside, which in my experience gives me a lot more powerful lag and I hit the ball farther. I also noticed the times I am losing my lag and flipping I am swinging more out to in. To be even more honest, the shot shape I am working towards right now is the one you claim to have. A draw that pushes 10y/20y (irons/woods) and draws back 10y/20y. If you can get your hands on a video camera, record a swing of yours from down the line. Refer to this link for a detailed explanation on how to film your swing for the best results. http://thesandtrap.com/playing_tips/filming_your_swing edit: no one can really help you anyways unless you film your swing or get lessons from a good instructor. people on here will be glad to help you if you film your swing however :)
  8. Not to mention a lot of die hard golfers move to where they can golf year round, if they have the means.
  9. If you're ball is only drawing 10-20y, that basically is a baby draw (well, 10y is). I can't see how the ball would bounce sideways unless you were hooking it (drawing it like 30-50y). If you are having trouble holding a fairway then you are probably hooking it. Either you are massively hooking it with a push or you are just hooking it with no push at all. If you're swing plane very inside out (I don't know how likely that is), the ball will draw less (but push more) with a more open club face at impact. You can achieve this by strengthening the left hand grip/weakening the right hand grip or by having a more forward leaning club shaft at impact. The 2nd is much harder to achieve (as it's not a quick fix) but is preferable.
  10. There's nothing on TV that I watch that I don't DVR. Unless the movie has no commercials. I just hate wasting time. Period. It's nice to be able to cut the time of a golf broadcast to about 1/3 of what it would be without the magic fast forward button.
  11. You float load quite a bit but I feel like you could be giving the ball more of a rip maybe by driving your hands quicker. You don't push your hips a great deal either (a few inches, 4 with driver) and stop pushing them before impact. I'm sure that could give you more power as well. Biggest thing I notice is it appears that you almost fall back in your impact position and you could definitely be more laterally forward with the hips. Beautiful tempo and swing apart from that though.
  12. Exactly, well almost exactly. Like shanks says there are a lot of factors. But, generally it goes something like this. A 10* out to in swing with a 10* closed club face will produce the most dead straight pull you have ever seen. A 9* closed club face and a 10* out to in swing path would produce a pull with the slightest bit of fade (you might not even notice it). A 9* closed club face with a 8* out to in swing path (relative to target line, remember) will produce a pull with the slightest bit of draw on it. If you're swing path is closed relative to the club face, you will fade. If it is open relative to the club face, you will draw. The pull/push part comes from I believe ~85% club face angle and ~15% swing path. I think you can +/- a few percentage points to the swing path affect on the starting direction of the ball due to an increase/decrease in swing speed. But I am not sure on exactly how that works. Note: Someone with a better knowledge of this could clear up that last part I'm sure. Also, in my experience I've found that the club face angle should be about half the swing path angle. For example a 15* open club face would draw back very nicely with a 30* in to out swing path.

    My Swing (Zeph)

that video has dramatically reduced my flipping. its a lot harder to flip when the club is still setting at the start of the downswing. thanks for posting
  14. A better way to tell if you are striking the ball consistently where you want is to line up your range shots next to each divot with the front of the ball being up against the start of the other divot. If you strike it like the previous strike (assuming the previous was a good one) the two divots will be parallel to eachother. Keep lining the ball up against the butt of the divot, regardless if you hit the previous shot fat. Kind of hard for me to explain but most people will know what I am talking about if they saw a picture of it. KEY: Divot ---- Ball O Filler because spaces dont work _______ Example how to hit balls at the range for accurate divot feedback. ---- Solid shot _---- A little fat _---- Solid _------ very fat _____O
  15. The only thing wrong with the FedEX(IMO) is that the playoffs reward too many points. The point scaling system should be normal tournament: 1000 pts playoff event: 2000 major tournament: 4000 points or the easiest solution to GUARANTEE a dramatic finish (instead of relying on luck like happened this year. very lucky the fed ex played out the way it did. most of the time its clinched before the 18th. way before) is to simply have a top 32 match play. That way players would control their own destinies, too.
  16. Thank you. Yeah I definitely did feel tight. Almost like my lead arm was getting stuck on my chest before reach parallel to the shoulders. That's what it felt like anyways. Yup, I need video and I'll be buying one within the next three weeks if all goes well.
  17. Haha. I wish. This was more of a rant than a plea for help. I was furious with the worst range session I had since I was a 20 capper.
  18. Someone break down this 8 year olds swing. I'm certainly having a hard time finding much wrong with this little guys swing from face on. He sways a little off the ball, but look at that hip slide! Look at that contact! If only if I only my swing was as pretty as his (hell maybe it is since I've never filmed it, but I doubt it!!)
  19. title really should be: in to out swing path + flipping = extremely fat shots Really worked on getting deep hands again today. I had noticed this before, but even more so today. Swinging with an in to out swing path causes the head of the club to come to come much closer to the ground on the downswing. When I used to swing OTT this never happened. Weight forward helped some but not much. Today was the worst I have ever hit the ball at the range. I could barely make contact. I know I'm flipping. I can't stop flipping. Maybe I was just really weak today but the entire time I could not feel like I could hold the lag. I tried the hit and stop drill and I couldn't stop the club prior to P7.5. It would ALWAYS flip past. Honestly, I don't think I'm strong enough on certain days to even hold the wrist cock. Constantly throwing the club. Also, I can't push my hips forward without falling over my lead leg that has all the weight on it. Right after impact I stumble over my lead leg and lose my balance. It's almost like I am getting so deep behind the ball that my body is in the way and it seems like there's no way I can get my hands in front of the ball at impact. i have NEVER hated golf this much. i really wish i had a camera so I can show you all what I mean but I don't. one of these days though. and yes I know if I didn't have a flipping problem (or a very sever one because everyone flips, even pros but they do it so minor no one can tell) then obviously I wouldn't be hitting the ground before the ball. I'm simply saying an inside out swing path exaggerates the problem flippers have. If I flip at the ball with an outside in swing the worst that happens is hitting it thin. inside out the worst is a divot 3 inches behind the ball.
  20. Whatever you do don't find something to fight about. It's vary rare the child will start a fight with you. Unless he is a toddler. Just always be positive to him, even if he does something wrong. Explain how and why it was wrong to do but never yell at him and make him feel stupid. I know when my father used to yell at me in my high school years I would fight and fight with him only to make it worse. Now if he bitches at me, I won't even respond. Someone who intentionally tries to find things to fight about doesn't deserve a response. Now giving your kids enough attention is actually worse than spoiling them too much. But not by much. Gotta find that happy median where the kids are still learning the lesson they need to learn but in the process are still enjoying their life. A buddy of mine who was kind of kept at home a lot by his parents (over parenting) during his high school years ended up more tentative to move on with this life and dependent on his parents. Another buddy of mine who did whatever the hell he wanted (under parented) during his high school years ended up more reckless and lacking self discipline. Basically, the 1st guy wouldn't give himself a chance to get arrested due to being too sheltered his life. AKA he's very paranoid and cautious. The 2nd guy is the exact opposite. He feels like he can do anything and get away with it (although less these days, as he's been arrested a few times). These two guys are my best friends. I feel like I am the happy median between both of them to be honest. My parents were lenient but wouldn't let me do stupid things like stay out until dawn breaks. Basically, I felt enough freedom to not have to betray my parents trust to achieve more freedom (because i didn't want anymore), but not SO much freedom my stupid teenage self goes out and does something stupid and possibly permanent. Coming from a 19yo, I hope this helps you. I just went through all those bullshit years with my parents. They sucked, but they could have been a hell of a lot worse. BTW, no matter how perfect a parent you are it is very highly unlikely your kid will say he really enjoyed his high school years. It's not necessarily your fault if you child doesn't seem normal or happy. He's just maturing a lot in those years. edit: i have the opposite problem. I am trying to get my father to play more golf with me! He loves to, it's just he can only play once a week. Usually then it rains (like today for instance). I'm grateful for a father who works so much to give me a better chance at succeeding in life, but I just wish I could have a little more time to hangout with him.
  21. I just feel like I get more swing speed with an in to out path. Why? Because I am not manipulating the swing plane at all and I am not wiping across the ball. No wasted motions (at least, that's the goal). I bet Jim Furyk could hit the ball a lot farther if he didn't have so much wasted motion in his swing. Granted, he strikes it beautifully.
  22. You should've been the president of the PGA. that would be a thousand times more interesting
  23. You sure you didn't just hit a crisp wedge into an upslope and into the wind? A lot of tour pros don't even suck it back 20 feet. Granted, they play much firmer greens.
  24. Golf would have a lot more fans if every tournament was like the Ryder Cup. Can you imagine? I think it would be much more exciting to watch. Tiger used to react to a lot of stuff like it was the Ryder Cup.
  25. Know a 5 handicap who hits 210-220 (he's 60+ tho) and hits every fairway.
