Sometimes you have no choice. I spent 11 years in a city where all the courses where $150 a round to ride. Walking was not allowed on a few of the courses because holes wheee very far apart. Also why I choose to work at a course for free playing privileges.

Try and play as much as possible. The driving range is just a tool. It's not golf. Get your back in the best shape possible so you can limit the amount of compensation required to achieve a desirable impact position. Good luck!

I carry my drives about 265-270 and carry a traditional 6 iron 181. The numbers are pretty close to the chart. If i gamed current jacked up loft ions I'm sure I'd be closer to the chart numbers

I play 13 clubs. Would not consider heading out to a course with less. Mainly cause I don’t belong to a club and play around at alot of courses and tee boxes get moved around to offer a different looks off the tee, so I don’t want to be stuck with a yardage that requires major manipulation of the swing. With that being said. When I do play a minimal set. I bring one club only. 5 iron, or a 3 wood and play the whole round with the 1 club. From tee shot to approach shots and even bunker play and yes, putting. Great way to develop feel and shot making.

Its not how far you hit, it's how many times you hit it. I choose no 3 putts.

How old are you? Do you play other sport? (baseball, hockey) Reason I ask: If your swing is still developing and your not a senior and play (or had played) other sports then I'd go with the stiffer flex. Logic says that once you figure out a proper delivery you're club head speed should increase; assuming your naturally athletic and young (ish). Lots of variables, but those were the two points i most considered when isold clubs to customers, that where just starting out.
-
Clubhead speed is paramount in achieving the proper launch conditions to have success with long irons. If club head speed isn' ideal. Hybrids just launch the ball with such ease.I only have a 2H. Its basicly a 5w with a shorter shaft. It's used as max distance club, not for distance control. I preffer long irons into greens.

Do you keep close watch on your score during a round?
shooter replied to Valleygolfer's topic in Golf Talk
I only use a scorecard when playing w others. I do keep a running tally in my head. Every round. I wish I could just forget about the score but its mostly simple that is hard to ignore. -
Just love. I dislike slow play and dis-respectful golfers.
-
Shorter golf courses make sense. The few new ones in my area top out at 6200. 12 holes, sure hope that never happens including larger cups. I don't see a point of it. Non conforming clubs have never helped a golfer bomb drives, pure irons or roll putts. It would seem golfers want the game to get easy instead building up there skill set.

OK. That answers my question. Fricking technology is ruining this game

I'm aware, but it's kind of miss leading. The club says forged, but what is actually forged on the club head. Only the face. Then they glue on tungsten weight, polymers, etc. I'm talking about a true 1020ish steel club head smashed from a solid billet of metal, into it's final shape. Like titleist mb cb. I know there engineers (and others) will say because you can't feel the difference. That's bs.

The i series of drivers should be lower spinning, even considering the G30 ls tech. Got fitted last year for a i25 9.5 (adjusted to 10.0) head in tour stiff ping shaft. Spun 300-400 rpm less then the G30 ls 9.5 head with a similar specd shaft. Same launch' barely noticable difference in height but more roll. 14.4 launch, 2100rpm and 162 mph ball speed.

Driver: titleist, to me Callaway drivers are too similar to Taylor mades these days. (I game a i25) Woods: titleist,by a nose, and in all honesty both offer very good woods. my 910f is still in the bag, bomber off the tee and high launcher of the deck. Irons: titleist and it's not even close (I game TM tp Mc irons circa 2012) Wedges: titleist buy a mile. I couldn't take looking at the mack daddy wedge by the ball seriously. Putters: Callaway I guess. I can't stand titleist putters. (I game a nike method) Ball: titleist and only because I don't like the look of the hex dimple's that Callaway swears by. (I game the TM TP5 cause their cheap, like me, and perform like Pro Vs)

Why don't they make forged irons and why does there current iron line up lack in any blade options? Also, tell them they engineer solid drivers and should keep on keeping on in that department.

That sounds like fun and I would bring 8 clubs along then. But beating my friends requires only showing up. Lol That course your playing would have most of my attention.
-
Im assuming you would be getting some strokes for not using all 8 clubs. Like -1 stroke for every club less then 8. It seams counter intuative to most, but my lob wedge is the only club I use inside 100 yard period. I'll make the adjustment that is required regardless of lie or yardage or pin etc etc. Putting with a wedge isn't very hard regardless of degree or bounce.
-
I'll take a stab at it. Unless my reading comprehension is off. I'm seeing a very long hard course. I would want a driver, hybrid, 7I and lob wedge. Driver to get off the tee on 13 holes. Hybrid for one tee shot and several approach shots on the longer par 4s including the couple long par 3s, and lag putts outside of 30 feet. 7 iron for anything I want to control into the green from 140 to 175 max. Lob wedge for everything 100 yards and in, including short putts. Hopefully you are able to put a good move on the ball or it'll be a long day.

You sir, spotted a unicorn.

I get no spin on wedges or 8 through 9 irons?
shooter replied to Mike Boatright's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
To have the ball back on short iron shots, while already using a soft urethane ball, will require a HIGH trajectory. That way, your angle of decent will we steep and any spin on the ball will be used to spin her back not just used to get it to stop. -
In all seriousness equipment can help get the last bit out of your swing. Say 10-15% max. Unfortunately the swing will account for 80% of the equation. The golf ball, is all preference.

Is it the ball or me???
shooter replied to stealthhwk's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Play the e6 or duo. High launch soft skin = bite on the green. A marshmallow will roll off the green if it's miss hit. Therefore; it's you. The ball won't do a thing until you apply forces to it. -
^^^ That's impressive. 150 rounds in a place where golf can't be played year round. Top notch.
