I was at a local executive course about to tee off on the courses signature hole, a 115 yard down-hill par 3 with an island green. I was with a friend of mine and there was another twosome close by that we just joined up with. There was a foursome on the green, and we waited for them to hole out and watched at they drove their carts off to the next tee. I was first to tee off so I began doing so, and was waggling over my ball. I hit it, and as soon as I looked up I saw one of the carts to the left of the green. I pulled my shot very badly and I saw it going right for this poor old fellow, who was going back to get his wegde. I yelled fore and so did the guy in the twosome next to us but before he could react, my ball went "THUMP" and smacked him right in the back. I sprinted up to see if he was okay, and he was fine, I apologized and everything was okay. But, man that ball went so high in the air came down so hard I was thinking for sure it would hit his head and kill him. Scary...

I don't hit my 3-wood off the tee much but when I do I get about 230-240 yards out of it.

Hybrid or fairway wood, mid iron, and a wedge (somewhere between 52 and 58 degrees would be best). Use the fairway wood for tee shots and long approach shots, the mid Iron for approach shots and bump and run, and the wedge for chipping and short approach shots. Any of the clubs can be used for putting, although I would use the wedge personally (I can sink alot of putts with my 56*).

Discuss your home course (more)...
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to MSchott's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I play at Redwing Lake in Virginia Beach, one of the nicer, more difficult public courses in the area. It plays 7124 yards from the tips and 6653 from the blues, the next tees up, which is what I play. It's a pretty good course with great prices. My favorite holes are #3 and #13. #3 is a 393 yard par 4, dogleg left, with a hazard between the fairway and the teebox and OB to the right. Once you carry the hazard you are left with a fairly easy, slightly uphill approach shot into a relatively flat green. It's an easy, fun hole if you can carry the hazard. #13 is a medium length par three of 176 yards. It is the only hole which touches Redwing Lake on the entire course, which provides some pretty scenery, although it only comes into play if you hit a horrible slice off the tee. It is the easiest par three on the course as it's the only one not over a hazard. The green is pretty flat and holds most shots. There is a small bunker guarding the right side of the green that is usually miles right of the pin placement, rarely coming into play of my 6-Iron. My least favorite hole is #8, a 230 yard par three with a giant hazard in the middle which runs all the way up the left side of the green. There is a bunker guarding the front left of the dome-shaped green and there is OB behind the green if you overshoot it. There is OB also running up the right side, which then gives way to a tiny clearing right of the green which is the only way to bail. It sucks for me because I usually always seem to hook one right into the hazard with my 3-wood (which I have to hit because it usually plays with a headwind). I have never birdied the hole, and never expect to, because I rarely even make a par. -
What do caddies use for an on course notebook?
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to Artimas's topic in Golf Talk
You mean like a yardage book? Alot of courses have yardage books for sale in the pro shop, or you can just make you own using Google Earth. If you just want one to look cool by pulling a notepad out before every shot, you can always find memo pads at Dollar Tree (no one will know it's not real). -
I hold an average of 254 yards, but I just got a new driver so I don't know what it is now, I'm guessing I gained an extra 3-5 yards. When I really get a hold of one (we call it "smushing it") I can get it out to 275 yards. I have only broken 300 yards around four times, all with a wind assist or hardpan fairways. I calculated the average of this site as per the last ten pages of this thread (yea, Im a nerd, don't bitch) and got 249.84 yards. So it seems I'm about average, although people I play with often call me a "long knocker". Probably due to internet exaggerations.

Dancin Dogg Optishot simulator
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to mtsalmela80's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I wouldn't trust a simulator that's $400. I'd probably get a better shot analysis playing Wii sports. -
Man...what a terrible idea.

I'm going to get a 60* wedge, some new headcovers for my putter and driver, balls, tees, and 13 New Decade Multicompound grips for my clubs. Can't wait.

Trouble with putting downhill
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to Gary's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I think this is pretty good advice. You want to just give the ball a little tap and let it slide down the hill. You definitely don't want to follow through alot and try to "push" the ball into the hole. -
balls ... whatever .....
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to Gerald's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Pro V1s would actually hurt high handicappers because of the spin. Most high handicappers have swing path issues (almost always OTT) which result in slice spin. A high spin ball like the Pro V1 would accentuate their slices causing shots to veer much further offline than they would with lower priced, lower spin balls. Plus, most higher handicappers do not correctly hit down on the ball to take advantage of the spin anyway. I think any one over a 15 (or so) index who buys Pro V1s are not only wasing their money, but they are actually hurting their game. But this is exactly what Titlest wants. They want novice players to fall into their trap thinking Pro V1s would be the best for their game so they spend $45 on them, and since the extra sidespin causes them to dump balls into hazards even more often, it makes them have to buy their balls more often, making them even more money. -

The short game spin of both the V1 and the V1x is about the same actually. The V1x has less spin off of the driver and Irons, though. -
Chippers and Putting Wedges
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to mikalee's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I regularly chip with my 25* hybrid. The head shape is not too far from a chipper, but it does many other things. Chippers, like many people have already mentioned, are only good for one type of shot and take up space in your bag when you could just chip with a more versitale club (i.e. 7-iron). -

TaylorMadeTaylor replied to Gerald's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
If I'm going to a tourney and need some conforming balls then I'll pony up for the "real deal". But that is not very often. I mostly play against myself -
I have a Burner Superfast and just got back from the range, and I love it but I feel like I will love it even more if the shaft wasn't grossly long. I was thinking about trimming it from 46.5" to 45" but I am afraid that the swingweight is going to become too light. Any thoughts?

TaylorMadeTaylor replied to Gerald's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I play with the pro v1x mainly because of the greenside spin. I am a very aggressive chipper and need something that stops quick. Also, for me they are longer off the driver than regular v1. I do buy X-outs though. They are the exact same thing, but with a few tiny blemishes here and there and cost much less. I will never pay $45 for a dozen balls. Since switching to the Prov1 I have been getting up and down alot more, which is leading to lower scores. Can I get buy with a top flite rock, sure. But, I shoot lower scores with the V1x and that is whay I buy them -
Engineering Voodoo - Taylormade Superfast TP
TaylorMadeTaylor replied to delav's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I now I said I hated this driver but I just traded my R9 for a used one. I had to hit quite a few balls to get used to the look at address and feel but man this thing smashes the ball dead straight. Sure, it's ugly, and it may not feel great but man it works. I brought my R9 in for comparison and this was 8 yards further on average and alot tigher shot spread. I can't wait to game this thing on tuesday. -
Like before, you are asking a very vague question. But, the answer is pretty much the same, go to Golf Town, hit some drivers and see what you like the best. People can suggest drivers for you all they want, but it all comes down to what works for you. You can't just go out and buy a club because joe schmo over the internet told you it's good.

If I were the golfer that hit the tee shot, that would be the last time I ever hit a golf ball no matter how good I was. I can't even imagine how bad this guy must feel, or the greif felt by the course workers family.

Yea, I don't really like the MB but the CB versions are a big improvement over TMs other CB irons as far as looks go. Looks simple and classic, as opposed to their other GI offerings which look more like golf club shaped lollipops. I think it would be cool for them to sell these in a progressive set. For example, have the 3-5 irons CB, the 6 and 7 irons MC, and the 8-P MB.
