That's really weird, I never even noticed I was doing that. Once again it is probably a leftover from my baseball mechanics, striding to take a swing.

Has anyone else read this??? I just finished all 60 stories yesterday and feel compelled to share it. I know it's a bit old, but it's too good not to share. Read them all at once, one at a time, ten a day, it doesn't matter, but you should read these stories. Awesome casual, funny writing style with even better stories. http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-courses/maxtrip P.S. - You should probably start with number one, if that even needs saying. And pay attention to the numbers, sometimes they may not be in geographical order. Happy reading!

Thanks, and I suspect the turn of the body on the downswing is because of my baseball background (I've been playing since I was 6) that's already ingrained a baseball swing in me. Anyway everyone, thanks for the feedback!

The 'share a personal golf tip' thread
nhwoj replied to 8.5_Drive's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Don't expect a putt to break a definite distance on every slope. Starting your line with the slope, parallel to the slope, or against the slope will all have different distances of break from your starting line for a given distance, so take this into consideration when reading putts. If this is somewhat hard to understand, an example would be on a 10 foot right-to-left putt, starting the ball towards the top of the slope will make it break, say, 8 inches at 10 feet. Starting it parallel to the slope will make it break 12 inches at the 10 foot point. And finally, starting it toward the downslope will make it break 18 inches at the 10 foot mark. There you go, happy putting. -
Downstairs carpet is about a 15 on the stimpmeter, but it's the best I got to practice putting, as well as an automatic return cup. I chip into a big baseball net with a duct-tape circle target in my backyard, and dreampt up an 18 hole course in my yard to play with wiffle practice balls (all shots off tees of course... God forbid I take a divot in Dad's yard). Hoping to get my own Flip camera or Sony camcorder to record my video and stop borrowing my parents, as well as a mat to stop hitting of tees everywhere and practice chipping from somewhere other than mulch.

Anyone have any suggestions?

How much is your golf set worth?
nhwoj replied to billysandy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hmmm... this is how much I paid for each, actual MSRP I do not know... Top-Flite XL Set: $170 Wedges: $40 AP1's: $50 TaylorMade Stratus Bag: $75 Total: $335 Yeah, I'm 15. I'm on a limited budget... hopefully I can get a job soon! -
First two are on a par 3 when our course was empty (6i) with my sketchy-quality digital camera. Pulled the first, slight chunk on the second. Next two are way higher quality, using my dad's camera in the backyard with a practice ball. The last two are very good natural ball flight examples for me, slight fade on the 4i and push slice with the driver. Any comments or observations, anything you can say is helpful. Just to note, all my shots have pretty high trajectory. With driver/3 wood = push slice, hybrids = medium cut, long irons (4,5, sometimes 6) = slight fade, short irons/wedges = straight (incase you're wondering about normal ball flight).

160 yard par 3, hooked my tee shot into the woods. Had an okay lie, and about a 10' wide and 10' high shot to the right side of the green. Hit a 4-iron punch that I thought had gone too high, but somehow made it through the trees and just past the green. Did not make the bogey putt after chipping on, but a beautiful shot IMO for a 35 handicapper to give myself a chance.

Shot 55-63-56, 9/21 fairways, one GIR. Not very happy about the round overall, but putting was pretty good. Maybe one or two rounds left in the season, then the New England winter takes over.

When getting ratings/slopes for 9 holes on a course, you just divide the 18-hole rating/slope in half, I believe. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but it worked for me when I used that website.

$20? Looks like two weekends of golf to me!

Quickie Pitching Video - Golf Pitch Shot Technique
nhwoj replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Very helpful and thorough video, without being 12 minutes long. I've been struggling with this shot, and am playing a round tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to practice this a little before my round. Great video, thank you!- 776 replies

Tell me about it! BB has not only had some really good players on lately but some hot ones too... Best of luck to her in the future.

Great, now I have to clean the drool off my keyboard.

i have a subscription to GD, starting soon, and a 6-month free mini-subscription to GM also starting soon that I got from globalgolf.com. I have read GD before and before 2009 the magazine was 10/10, now it's about a 8.5/10. Anxious to see GM soon!

Watching the Bruins slowly disintegrate in last years playoff series vs. the Flyers, and then to start off the year with a 5-2 loss makes me think that Tuuk isn't cut out to handle a full-time goalie job... especially when Timmy Thomas shuts out the same team the next night. I think for now we need a 60-40 split favoring Rask, to get him good ice time but also rest him and let him learn from a guy (Thomas) who dominated in a platoon situation a few years back with Manny Fernandez, I believe both of them that season had GAA's below 2.25 and Save %'s above .920... that's just incredible. And the great play from Andrew Horton in those two games was promising, as well as Seguin scoring his first goal. Overall, the lookout for the B's should be good, and whenever we can get Savard healthy and everyone else in flow with the offense we could be one of the best teams in the league.

Probably about 4 months, from the time I stopped playing last season to the time my first set of clubs finally arrived at my door. Since then, probably about 6 or 7 weeks from when I first broke my ankle in April to when I finally played again in late May.

I generally set up a bit closed, to help myself get rid of a nasty slice, and have never had a problem with hooks/pulls. I guess it all depends on your natural flight path.

Exactly. I don't care how comfortable they are, I'm not wearing anything that looks like the shoes my nine-year-old sister wears to school (although hers are pink... just to clarify).

1) Hmm... I may be in the market for a new putter or new hybrids, but for a 15 year old that's about all I could manage, seeing as my parents view golfing as a silly game and wouldn't spend a nickel to help me out. 2) I've been on somewhat of a lifting program, doing high-rep, mid-weight dumbbell exercises 2-3 times a week, trying to get myself motivated to do that 3-4 a week instead. Hopefully on days I'm not doing that I'll be doing cardio (biking, jogging, basketball) of some sort. 3) I've sworn against lessons. Not only do I just wanna learn and have fun on my own, I just plain can't afford them. 4) My ultimate goal for next year is to make the high school golf team. But I'm playing at about a 35 index right now, and that's not very encouraging, but I hope to be down to about a 20 or 25 by the end or middle of next season. I definitely feel like this is doable, with some work on short game and swing consistency. As far as tangibles on the golf course, I want to hit 50-65% of fairways and reach 40-60% of greens in regulation, and maybe increase my distances about 5-10 yards. Hopefully I won't be on a layoff all winter, and be able to do some small things indoors or on clear patches outdoors when there isn't snow, but if I can't I'll be all the more excited to play next season!

Is it bad that I would definitely buy this?

I'm getting pumped for the whitetail rifle season, both here in NH and in ME. Anyone else here a hunter? Not necessarily deer - anything - grouse, antelope, turkey, whatever.

Clubs clank together with carry bag
nhwoj replied to binga7's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
True that. Anyway, reach your hand over the top of the bag and just palm the irons when you're walking near other players. That works for me, and the towel thing is useful but sometimes it can be uneffective, the towel falling out or slipping from a few clubs. Sorry, didn't see this post.
