I recommend going to your local golf shop actually. Most have demo grips built up to different sizes for you to try; they come usually come in undersize, standard, midsize etc. You also can add more layers to customize the size further; when doing this, be sure to consider the butt diameter of the club shaft and core size of the grip.

No demo grips around here hence the question

I just regripped my entire set with Golf Pride New Decades. .600 rounds.

I have always added about 2 layers of masking tape to slightly build up the grips before spiraling on some 3/4 inch wide two sided tape.

They feel awesome. Slightly fuller feel but not as fat feeling as a "midsize".

I went with Golf Pride Tour Velvets 3 wraps slightly under midsize now. They feel good at the range so far. Can't give a real performance yet as there is still some snow left on the ground. Either way if it helps I went from Mid-size Multi compounds to regular mulis than to Golf Pride VDR's 2 wraps and now to Tour Velvets 3 wraps. Play around with the wraps and see what feels best and performs best.

I think i made a poor decision going with 3 wraps and tour velvet. I have only played 2 rounds but i am second guessing my decision. I will play a few more rounds with them but I think 2 wraps and vdrs are my choice. I may splurge for multi comps but not real keen on dropping $100 for the 9 clubs.

I was looking at them. How do they hold up? Why are they not readily available at most stores? Just wondering. From what I read about them they seem very similiar.

I just put some on my whole bag, minus the driver (I put a NDMCon that when i bought it). I have played 7 rounds with them and no worries so far. Obviously not enough time to really give you an awnser tho. The club guy at the pro shop by my house has tried to get me to try them for a couple of years. After reading a lot of positive reviews for them I am giving them a shot. Other than that course pro shop I have only seen them for sale online.

Thanks for the suggestion. Keep me posted as I want to give the tour velvets a test. Only had them for a month or so.

Here is golf grip (and golf glove) fitting tool from Golf Pride grip company.

Grip categories (on left) are:

  • Junior
  • Undersize
  • Standard
  • (Midsize)
  • Jumbo

http://www.golfpride.com/fit/?utm_campaign=Golfpride_2013_Mar-May%20-%20FAQs&utm;_source=Google&utm;_medium=cpc&utm;_term=what%20size%20golf%20grip&utm;_content=FAQs&gclid;=CMPL5N-KsLYCFQvOnAodTi4AfQ

Smaller golf shops tend to stock primarily undersize and standard, and build up the standard with extra tape layers to increase size. Larger shops will carry grips of specific sizes, and only do minimal tape build-up.

Im thinking i am going to regrip my clubs this winter and I had a few questions.

1.  I went on the lamkin website, they recommended I go with standard +3 wraps.  Does plus 3 mean that I will have 4 wraps of tape?  I am just unsure weather the wrap that you need to hold the grip on counts.

2.  What do you guys use for your extra wrap.  Just use double sided tape for each wrap or do you build it up with some other tape or something else completely?

Hopefully I'm better tomorrow

some guys go with extra wraps & thats fine.    I prefer to just go with larger grips (ex-baseball player - standard grips feel like a fishing rod without a handle to me).    I use Lamkin grips too - they make many grip models in standard, medium and oversize.     I regripped my clubs with Oversize grips the first year I played - liked them alot.    Went a little slimmer with my current clubs - using medium grips & really liking those alot.    I do all my own grip work & rather than building up the wrap underneath a standard grip, I just increased the size of the grip.    Some guys might want an in-between size & thats where extra wraps would help really customize the feel - I'm not that picky.    Different strokes as they say ...

    • after some years experimenting around, I've settled on a mixed bag of mostly Pat Simmons vintage Tiger Sharks (the ones with the blue enamal on back of the clubheads): 3 thru 9 iron, + 3 wedges (PW, sand, chipper). Those super heavy clubheads really help me get my swing down and thru the ball. Also I carry an old Taylor 18-degree rescue club, 17-degree and 14 degree ImagineGolf metalwoods, and the famous Pat Simmons "alien" 1-iron. Finally a real brick-on-a-stick, the big-headed Bettinardi Ben Hogan model putter which is excellent for taking the break out of short putts and getting the ball hole high on long ones. Wait....is that 15 clubs? Oh well....
    • this topic brought to mind one my favorite golf-spectator memories. Back when, living in Santa Barbara CA, parked in my yellow cab just behind the 10th tee  (c. 380 yard par 4) at SB Muni golf course while eating lunch. A twosome comes by, and first up is this fat little mexican guy who takes a kinda squirelly practice swing, then addresses the ball and bashes a long, high, perfectly straight drive up to w/in about 5 yards of the green. Other guy is dressed to the 9's, pulls out what looks like a $300 driver....and hits a maybe 150-yard pop fly. Slams clubhead to the ground and yells, "it's fat! It's fat! Everything is fat today!!"  And that's how I learned what a "fat" shot is.
    • day 57. Technique practice in the net. Really trying to slow down.
    • It may not be surprising that in the previous 7,064 posts, this particular point has been discussed. To which I will counter: If we're talking about results, why only the majors? Unless you know something that I don't, neither of us are in any position to judge whether Woods or Nicklaus lived their overall life better, not that such a thing is even objectively measurable, nor is it relevant to the discussion.
    • As we've had to tell other people, the topic is which is the better GOLFER, not human being.
