Your head is moving back but also up because your shoulders are not maintaining the angle all the way to the end if the backswing.. Basically they flatten as you go from a1 to a4 causing your head to pop up.. Fixing key#1 will really be your priority and probably for a while.. I'm still working I. It for 4.5 months now because it is so critical to making good contact.. Trust me that lean isn't the answer to pure contact as that will go away and you'll be back to square one looking for the answer. Practice turning while keeping the same shoulder angle infront of a mirror and then compare to your real swing! Also I still recommend the guys in evolvr when you are ready for the next step in playing really good golf.

Abu3aid thanks for taking ghe time to reapond. I will be signing up for evolvr next week. With that out of the way i did not really understand much of your response as it was a bit technical for me. :-(

I'm sorry about that.. Basically there is an angle made in your set up between your shoulders and your spine angle. In order to play good golf you should maintain that same exact spine angle at the end of your backswing.. That way your head doesn't move up or down from set up to end of backswing. What happens is that when you are turning your shoulders start to flatten out at the top so you don't maintain that inclination and your head moves up and you have a hard time keeping your eyes on the ball and your contact suffers mainly. I have been suffering this issue for a while, but I can't post the picture because I'm on a mobile sorry. If you go to my swing thread you will see what I'm talking about as it is discussed several times.. Do this drill.. Put your arms on your chest and turn your shoulders so that your left shoulder is pointing at the ball.. Make the turn as steep as possible bringing your left knee down and in as well.. See how that goes and I'll see if I can post the drills from you tube for you..

Very good stuff from @Abu3baid above. :-) And thought I'd chime in to add that you really should commit to evolvr. By far the best thing you can do for your game long term if you don't live near any of the 5sk instructors. Also I've found I've been enjoying practicing for the first time since signing up to evolvr because you know what to actually practice

He means start bent, stay bent. Importantly, same amount of bent.

  • 8 months later...

finally signed up for evolvr...but had a small question in regards to my putting stroke.  is/should the putting stroke be lower or closer to the ground? I'm not sure if it's the angle the camera recorded in (I had never recorded myself putting for birdie before but felt confident in the distance and line) but in the practice stroke it seems like my putter is higher off the ground than it should be?  do i need more forward lean of the shaft of the putter keeping it a bit closer to the ground?

before first evolvr lesson

after first evolvr lesson

Stephan had me working on keeping head back and hip forward on downswing, I feel like a major improvement already when I practice in the backyard net but onto the range today...

now I just came back from the range today and of course with swing changes there are some frustrations and pain in the change...I DO NOT have video of myself out on the range today but will try to provide...here is my point question.  I am a notorious for overdoing swing instruction so I felt like today I may have been overshooting hip outward maybe even before my back swing was complete.

90% of my shots where blocks, had some cut blocks and a few shanks even.

I love the practice and first lesson results and will continue working on it in my backyard net but I don't know where the ball is going or it's general direction I do know I'm coming a bit more from the inside which is great, but any advice?

You should have filmed your range session. I'd bet you weren't doing things as much as you thought. I'd also recommend just sticking to what Stephan is asking of you. Asking here will be bad for you. Take a few weeks. Do what's asked. Submit again. Evolvr is not best used with four videos a month and asking for extra help here is even worse. Changing your swing is different. Make the correct motions even if you miss the ball until you no longer miss the ball.

+1

@infoe , from the backyard video you posted, you're not overdoing it.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
