Thursday starts The Scottish Open. An interesting tournament on the beautiful Royal Aberdeen course. A lot of players use this tournament as a preparation for The Open one week later, making it quite a strong field for a regular European Tour event. The field includes Rose, Fowler, Mickelson, Walker, Kuchar, Koepka, Poulter, Palmer and a lot of others. Last year Justin Rose took the victory.

For the full field and to follow scores see http://www.europeantour.com/europeantour/season=2015/tournamentid=2015052/teetimes/index.html#ZOkWlvMYyb6xIfpF.97

Love the event, so glad they're on a rota again. Believe they're at Gullane, however, in East Lothian. Lots of famous courses down there south of the Firth of Forth. Really didn't enjoy it every year at Loch Lomand. Beautiful place but I like the variety.

It's the goddamn Scottish Open! The Scottish Open is a popular venue for players competing in The Open Championship next week. The last five winners of The Open have all competed here the week prior. Also, the highest three noneligible finishers in the top 10 can earn a trip to St. Andrews. Notable players in the field: -David Duval(:-\) -Matteo Manassero -Joost Luiten -Jimmy Walker -Ian Poulter -Rickie Fowler -Graeme McDowell -Matt Kuchar -Thomas Bjørn -Padraig Harrington -Luke Donald -Colin Montgomerie -Victor Dubuisson -Stephen Gallacher -Miguel Angel Jimenez -Justin Rose -Phil Mickelson *EDIT*: Doh! How could I miss the other thread!

The 2015 Scottish Open golf tournament on the European Tour is taking place this week from July 9-12, 2015, at the Gullane Golf Club located in Gullane, East Lothian, Scotland, a few miles east of Edinburgh. Here is a list of the odds for golfers to win the 2015 Scottish Open.

The Scottish Open has traditionally been used by golfers to get ready for the British Open which takes place one week later. The 2015 Scottish Open is no different as many top golfers from around the world are playing in the tournament including Americans like Phil Mickelson , Jimmy Walker, Matt Kuchar and Rickie Fowler .

Golf odds for players to win the 2015 Scottish Open including Phil Mickelson

1. Justin Rose - 12 to 1 odds

Justin Rose is the favorite to win the 2015 Scottish Open at odds of 12 to 1. Rose is the defending champion in the Scottish Open as he won last year at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club. Justin Rose has been playing well so far in 2015 as he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in late April and lost a playoff at the Memorial Tournament in June.

T-2. Phil Mickelson - 16 to 1 odds

Phil Mickelson won the 2013 Scottish Open and used the win to propel him to victory a week later in the 2013 British Open. Can Phil Mickelson do the same in 2015?

T-2. Rickie Fowler - 16 to 1

Rickie Fowler is also trying to get ready for the 2015 British Open by playing in the 2015 Scottish Open. Fowler won The Players Championship in early May, but that was only his second win on the PGA Tour and he has not played well since. Rickie Fowler missed the cut at the 2015 U.S. Open and he also missed the cut at the 2015 Irish Open. At least he has a hot bikini model girlfriend to vacation with.

T-4. Jimmy Walker - 25 to 1

Jimmy Walker is yet another big American golfer trying his luck this week at the 2015 Scottish Open. Walker has been a late bloomer in golf as he did not win on the PGA Tour until he was 33, but he has now won five tournaments, including two wins in 2015, since October of 2013.

T-4. Shane Lowry - 25 to 1

Shane Lowry from Ireland has two wins on the European Tour. Lowry won the Irish Open in 2009 and the Portugal Masters in 2012.

T-4. Branden Grace - 25 to 1

Branden Grace from South Africa has won six times on the European Tour and his last win was in January at the Qatar Masters. Grace also has five wins on the South African Sunshine Tour with his last win coming in February of 2015 at the Dimension Data Pro-Am.

T-7. Ian Poulter - 33 to 1

Ian Poulter from England has won 12 times on the PGA Tour and European Tour combined. The problem with Poulter is that his last win was back in 2012.

T-7. Brendan Steele - 33 to 1

Brendan Steele from California has just one win in his PGA career which came in 2011 at the Valero Texas Open. Steele is the nephew of actor Tony Geary who has played Luke Spencer on "General Hospital" since 1978.

T-7. Brooks Koepka - 33 to 1

American Brooks Koepka won for the first time on the PGA Tour in February when he won the 2015 Phoenix Open. Koepka does also have a win on the European Tour as he won the 2014 Turkish Airlines Open last year.

T-7. Matt Kuchar - 33 to 1

Florida born Matt Kuchar is yet another American trying his luck at the 2015 Scottish Open. Kuchar has seven wins in his career all on the PGA Tour and his last win came in 2014 at the RBC Heritage.

T-11. Andy Sullivan, Luke Donald, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Thongchai Jaidee - 40 to 1 odds each

Luke Donald won the Scottish Open in 2011 when the tournament was shortened to 54 holes due to bad weather. Donald has 11 wins on both tours combined but his last win was in 2012. Thongchai Jaidee has six European Tour wins and another 13 wins on the Asian Tour. Cabrera-Bello has two European Tour wins with last in win in 2012. Andy Sullivan also has two European Tour wins but both his wins came in 2015.

T-15. Richie Ramsey, Ryan Palmer, Joost Luiten, Peter Hanson, Tommy Fleetwood, Victor Dubuisson, Pablo Larrazabal, Soren Kjeldsen, Jaime Donaldson, Byeong-Hun An, James Morrison, Maximillian Kieffer - 50 to 1 odds each

Out of this bunch at 50 to 1 odds each, Pablo Larrazabal from Spain just won the BMW International Open on the European Tour for the second time in his career on June 28, 2015. Byeong-Hun An won the BMW PGA Championship, which is the biggest non-major on the European Tour, in late May.

Notables

  • Graeme McDowell - 80 to 1 odds

Graeme McDowell won the Scottish Open in 2008. McDowell has 11 total wins on the PGA and European Tours combined.

  • Edoardo Molinari - 150 to 1 odds

Edoardo Molinari from Italy won the Scottish Open in 2010. That is one of only two European Tour wins for him and both came in 2010.

  • Colin Montgomerie - 200 to 1

Colin Montgomerie won the Scottish Open in 1999. Montgomerie has 31 European Tour wins and would have won a lot more if he could ever have won a playoff. Colin Montgomerie did just win the 2015 Senior PGA Championship for his third Senior major win in the last two years.

  • Gregory Havret - 200 to 1

Gregory Havret from France won the Scottish Open in 2007. Havret has three European Tour wins and his last win was in 2008. Havret did beat Phil Mickelson in a playoff to win the 2007 Scottish Open.

  • Jeev Milkha Singh - 300 to 1 odds

Jeev Milkha ingh from India won the Scottish Open in 2012. That was his fourth and last win on the European Tour.

Thanks @Club Rat

Yea, he's having a rough period (and not a good track record at The Scottish Open as well at The Open). It's a tough season for his fans like this, but things will turn around I'm sure.

Watching coverage this morning has been a real treat.

Limited "Talking Heads" actually watching players, play golf.

Only the voice of announcers actually describing the event.

Got to love the Scottish spectators, NO blurts, NO yelling, just golf claps.

Spectators are really close to the action, especially behind the Tee Boxes.

On the 16th hole, Phil had a short putt for a bird and there was a woman photographer dead in Phil's line of view behind the hole just 20 feet off the green.. No biggie for players.

Starter announcing players on first tee. Now from America, Phil and Defending 2014 Champion Justin Rose.

Of course in that soft tone accent.

And last but not least, less commercial air time.

It's a shame that UK TV golf coverage is getting as bad as the USA and mainly following golfing NAMES no matter how they are playing (eg the USA & Woods) instead of showing players playing GOOD GOLF. Today the best player - JOOST LUITEN wasn't shown AT ALL. I'd have thought they'd realise golfers wanna watch the BEST players too... BTW he was -7 for the day

I saw him make 2 long putts, on b2b holes. But I hear you, not much. It's a tough balance for them. I think Euro Tour coverage is more equitable than PGA but to some degree, they're playing to their audience. Probably a lot more American viewers than Dutch.

Anyone ever notice on the Dura-Pro mat commercial they show an impact decal in use but the dude completely misses the ball so after the shot, there's no impact mark? Just caught that today, pretty funny.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
