Driver Length and Swing Weight

Tom Wishon's article on driver length and swingweight... very interesting. i'm likely cutting the driver down from 45" very soon as I'm waaaay more interested in accuracy than distance right now.

I started cutting my drivers down to 44" last year.I'm seeing better distance from purer hits and finding more fairways. Without a doubt, the best thing ive done for my golf game. The average length driver on tour is 44.5".

yes I'm playing witha 44" and it seems to put the ball more in play..I cannot say even distance loss was a factor at all.

Funny thing today watching the PGA championship 8-14-05, I notice that some of the guys drivers "phil's" mostly how short it was. I always choked down on the grip to give myself better chance of hitting the short grass.

But my question is, what about the 3w? If you are cutting the the drive lenght down to 43-44 the lenght of a 3w is 41-42.5. Should the 3w also be cut down or does the loft of it enought not to cut it down?

Perhaps because you're the only person that can truly answer the question for yourself?

I don't think you're required to cut your 3-wood down if you've done that to your driver. I forget the length of my 3-wood but I hit it well enough to not bother at standard length... whatever that is.
