hello. i am 14 years old. im going into the 9th grade. of course im tryingn out for the golf team. I usually shoot in the low 80's. can anyone give me some tips for trying out for the team.
for the tryouts we just play 4 rounds of golf in 4 days and the best scores make the team. if you have any tips or advice it would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks,

Paul

Relax, don't worry about what the other guys are doing until you get into the club house.
Don't think that you will live or die by every shot, that is way more pressure than you want to deal with.
Try to avoid penalty strokes, play conservative golf.
If you hit a bad shot, let it go. Everyone else will screw up at some point during the four days.
Know all the local rules as well as the USGA rules before you go out and don't be affraid to call someone out if you see them breaking them. Golf is an honorable sport; if you see someone breaking the rules and say nothing, you might as well be cheat as well.
Remember the object is to make the team not win a trophy.

Check the USGA website. I always buy a copy every year and keep it in my bag. I have been doing that since I was 14 and playing high school golf. If you read the rules and understand them it is amazing the things you will see people do on the course that aren't right.
Good luck; I would be interested in how the try outs go. Keep us posted.

anybody else have any valuable tips?

I know I'm a high handicapper now, but I played in HS and college. But the only thing I would suggest is modify six's first comment to "don't worry about what other players are doing until it's all over." Good luck.

if you have an upper classmen friend who played on the team, try to get him to get ur coach interested in you.

Attitude is everything. Don't lose your temper, throw your clubs or say anything inappropriate to your playing partners. Treat your coach with respect and if he comes around to offer advice take it. You want to show that you are a good listener, a hard working and a team player.

Nobody got cut from our golf team, so you just had to show up.

and if yall are wondering, the tryouts are gonna be at the hardest course in town, highlands ridge NORTH click here to check it out

What makes it so tough? How does your game fit the course? What can you do to minimize the trouble you'll get into and to maximize the chances you get to do whatever it is you do best?

I imagine you'll play the blues. 6700 yards isn't too bad.

I had fun on the middle and high school teams. Good luck. Work on the short game...especially chipping and you should qualify. My guess is that it is tougher to make the team than when I played, but I did play at a 5A school. I probably shot 80's or 90's when playing to qualify.

Just relax and have fun. If your scores are consistently in the 80s, particularly low 80s, you could probably make the team at just about any high school.

Not Mine i shot Low 80's and Barly made the Jv I was like 14 man. Our #1 man constantly shoot underpar.

I just had the first day of tryouts. Suffice to say we had some surprises: one freshman shot 45 on a course he'd never seen before (and one of the tougher courses in the area). Another freshman shot 81... on the back nine.

Yeah.

So congratulations, flim flam.
