Hi

many people are using ebay to buy their clubs these days. I have a few friends who have bought clubs online with the belief that they were genuine from the advertisement, but when they arrived and were used they were clearly counterfiet and an inferior product.

The difficulty is that people who are new to the game with not very much experience do not know what they are looking at until someone with knowledge tells them that they are using something made in a Thai factory for very little $2 (?).

However, some copies are very well done and are not noticeable-Rifle shafts etc-it is usally the head that has been copied- im talking about 100% copies here-ie brand/trade name and colouring but with inferior technology..-not clubs that have similar heads but a different trade name.

Perhaps it is best to buy your clubs in the flesh from a reputable trader ( no vested interest here).

What experiences have other people had of this?

I only tend to buy from authorised retailers purely as I would hate to have non geniune clubs

If you buy from ebay, print the page with all the info. If your the winner of the item and find their fakes when you receive them you can return them for your money back. Also if it's a brand name and your sure it's a fake using their name you can call their hot line and they will go after them.

I always tend to be weary when it comes to purchasing items off of auctioning sites. Never done it, but with some of the prices on there its hard to not atleast think about it.

I dont mind paying retail price if I am certain that the product is authentic.

Easy way to tell though from what I have heard is to just simply look at the sellers rating. Most people that sell the golf items on ebay are simply companies, so it would be hard for me to believe that they would be dumping off knock-offs.

But then again, I am the type of person that worries about the simplest things, so buying an item that I would have a question about would kill me.

Just buy Pings...you can shoot them an email with the serial # and they let you know if they're legit.

Yea i know Ping is awesome with their service. I just love how they authorize everything. It shows what kind of a company they are.

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

. . .I have been an Ebayer for 5 years and have done over 400 transactions, mostly non-golf. I did just buy a complete set of clubs from various Ebay sellers. You must do your homework and check feedback and get serial numbers!! Check them with your manufacturer before you put in your bid! You can save considerably if you really take your time in the buying process! It is real easy to get taken though. . .for many the chance you take might not be worth th 30-40% you can save.

Bingo. I've bought a few hundred things off of ebay (just got my LW from there today...don't tell the wife). Check feedback, comparison shop on the retailers website and then look at the price. Hmmm... a new R7 driver for $150? That seems a bit odd.. If they are selling a ton of merchandise at prices that seem way too good to be true (and I'm not talking a 10% discount off of the MSRP, I'm talking 50%) then they are fakes. There are a few sellers on ebay like that. I won't post them because I have no proof. But if you're telling me you can sell me a whole set of the new Big Berthas for $250 (3-PW) - and not only can you sell me the one set, but you have 10 more just like it... then those are fake. I was nervous when I first jumped on ebay back in 97 (or 98...it was a long time ago), but now that's where I go to first.

In my bag you'll find:

I certainly hope they are genuine. I bought my Srixon, Ping and MacGregor irons from my club pro. I bought my TourStage irons privately- do you think anyone is making fake TourStage clubs? If so, thet would be a place to make a lot of profit- those suckers are expensive!

My woods are all real- My Clevelands were built in the Cleveland van, my Adams driver came from an Adams TOUR van and my Geek was hand picked at Geek.
