Whats in your bag 2008?

What clubs do you currently have in your bag, and what are your plans for the 2008 golfing season and why do you plan to change?

This thread could turn out to be a good subject, or a total flop

Ill start off

Driver - Nike Sasqautch Tour 9.5 with Graffaloy Prolaunch Blue stiff . I brought this driver after my Ping G5 was stolen in Spain. It was a choice between the Tour or the regular version (the latter I found too hard to hit)

3 Wood - Cleveland Hibore with Proforce V2 stiff

Irons - Snake Eyes 3 - 5 600c/6 - pw 600b stiff

Wedges 52 - Callaway forged/58 Vokey Spin Milled

Putter Odyssey 1100 DFX with WINN Grip

Plans for 2008
-Debating whether a change of shaft/driver is necessary, as it is launch monitor proven that the Graffaloy Prolaunch Blue shaft is doing nothing for my swing, but its hard to justify the cost of a new shaft when I can hit my current driver straight

- Do I need a 5 wood, I have found a huge distance and ball flight gap between my 3 wood and 3 iron, and when I have anything between 215/220 I am struggling to hit the correct yardage, a good 5 wood would also be a useful club off the tee on very tight driving holes.

- Get a 4 wood, scrap the 3 and 5 wood and leave extra room for another wedge, a 4 wood would still cover the distance gap between the 3 wood and 3 iron but not as effectively as a 5 wood would have.

- I need a new 58 degree wedge as the grooves on my Vokey are ruined. I am considering buying a complete new set of wedges, either more Vokeys or possibly Snake Eyes.

These plans are great, but my cash flow isn't so juggling up what would best improve my game is a tough call.

What are your plans for 08 equipment wise?

I have two sets of clubs that I use. One is my sig and the other is a set of Wood Bros Blades with Apollo Stiff Stepless Shafts. I hit these higher than my Mizuno, which is fine. Both sets are really sweet and the differences are minimal. I only use my Mizuno SW & PW when I think it's time to give my Cleveland's a break. I'm contemplating sending them to get re-furbished. The cost is less than half the price of one, new, wedge. I just don't know if I want to wait three to five weeks.

As for my hybrids, they absolutely have to be re-shafted. These Speeder Shafts suck. I'm just hesitant on pulling the trigger on new shafts. We'll see.

I switched golf balls, this year. I really love the DT Carry. On approach shots, it just falls from the sky. No complaints, whatsoever. I also have the DT Roll and NXT Tour. Both are okay but nothing like the DT Carry.

As for my putter, I had work done to it to fit my stroke. The results are better. I've been scoring in the low 80s and twice, already, I was close to breaking 80. When I realized how close I was, I wet the bed.

If I could change one thing, it would be the ability to have confidence in my 3W. I just don't and it's a shame, too, since I own, two.

I got a TM r7 425, but I haven't put it into play as of yet. I need more time at the range with it. If I change any other of my clubs this year (or next) it will be my irons. Im content with everything else. If i were to get new ones, I would probably go with the Titliest 735cm or the new Bridgestone J36 irons.

My sig has my clubs. I just bought them last year so I do not plan on changing anything. The only thing I can think of changing would be my putter which is the only thing that didn't change last year. Right now though, I'm planning on sticking with it.

My sig has what I'm pretty much set on playing this year. I'm thinking about making a fairway wood change as my current one is 10 yrs old. Maybe a Callaway FT or Taylor Made Burner TP. I'm also tinkering with either my Circa #3 of XG #9 as my flatstick.

I didn't really think I was going to change anything since I got new irons and driver in the fall of '07, but coming down to Dallas has left me board and I ended up getting the MP-57s in my sig, and on Sunday I broke down and got a SuperQuad.

I just went in to look and started hitting different drivers on the simulator. I was maxing almost everything out @ around 275, then I picked up the SQ and hit the first one 295 straight down the middle. Needless to say I left the store with it. Over 12 shots with it I averaged 285 carry and was hitting a nice draw with a 10 yard dispersal. Can't wait to get it home.

The only thing I changed was my wedges. I went from Cleveland 588's to CG11's. Absolutely the best wedges I have ever hit.

For this I would recommend a 2 iron hybrid. I have a 16 that I love. I had the same problem but then I got the hybrid and it worked like a charm.

My clubs are in my sig, and the grooves on my wedges are dead so I would like to get a new set and am torn between x-forged, cg14, and vokeys. Any advice on the subject would help.

Well my sig pretty much tells the story. I'm real happy with my latest addition (the Callaway X Hot). The only reason I got it was because I lost my Ping Rapture 3w to my son's bag. I'm sending my driver back to Callaway for repair/replacement but I'm really feeling a change unless they send me back a Tour driver. I'm also at the point where I need to change irons, going to more of a "better player" iron. Hopefully that will come sometime this season but if not at least by Christmas.

I actually do have a 2 iron hybrid at home (Callaway Heavenwood) but I have really gone off the idea of hybrids, their performance (I have found) are not that dissimilar to irons, I have considered getting a 2 iron instead of my hybrid.

Any Cleveland or Titleist wedges are going to be the 'dogs', I would avoid the Callaway x-forged wedges as I have heard from a couple of good pro's that the shafts are poor and the performance of the wedge is not up to scratch.

Driver and putter are new for 2008. Will be getting a Ping Tour-W wedge to replace the 54 Vokey. I'm thinking 52 maybe. Jay_B - how long did your vokey last?

The 3-wood I have is delightful - though it soars into the air. I am looking to change to maybe the Burner 3-wood, or the Burner TP if I can hit it. Trying it out next month.

No problems with the Rescue - though I'm going to try and get a 2-iron as an alternative.

I would like to get the irons re-shafted - they aren't quite stiff enough for my liking but I may wait till the end of the year to reshaft. I'm very happy with them - thought they go a little too high.

I'd like to try the Burner TP driver again - I hit it before and loved it but settled on the regular Burner.

The bag - well I alternate between my college Ping Team Vantage and the Titleist - I may sell the Titleist to a mate who'd looking for one.

I'm on the lookout for a new trolly as mine is banjaxed (wheel falls off, bag falls off) and I play most of my golf away from my home course and am usually charged ridiculous prices for a trolly! I carry half the time I play but it's usually raining here so it's easier to handle a trolly in the rain.

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
