Just wanted to see how many of you buy your clubs off of Ebay or prefer to spend a little more in the store? I've been buying a good amount of my equipment off Ebay. It's hard when you can save up to 50%. Thoughts?

I agree! I have only been scammed once on a $20 shaft and the other 30 items I bought off ebay were great. It is hard to pay that extra money to the golf store. I do buy some things from the golf store to stay in good graces with them, but clubs (other than wedges) come from Ebay.

I generally buy my clubs from ebay due to the very low prices, but when I improve enough to get some players irons I am going to get fit for them.

Because wedges get used so much that I only buy new wedges, and usually, I can get them locally at the same price after shipping as new wedges from Ebay. If I were to run across a new wedge that was for a good price, that would be another story. Good luck!

I always buy my stuff from a golf store. I just like being able to see in person exactly what I am going to get. I also dont like the hassel of the shipping and handeling and dealing with packages showing up on my doorstep when I am not home. I dont ever buy anything that is the latest and greatest and always look for deals and closeouts or last years stuff. That stuff is usually pretty darn cheap at the golf stores anyways. I also buy alot of used clubs from golf galaxy and it is nice to be able to hit the club and get a good look of the feel before you buy it "blindly" from someone on Ebay.

Never buy blind, I usually find a place or attend some kind of demo then purchase online.

I typically buy all my stuff from the local golf store. Yes it is more expensive, however I know that I am not getting any clone or being scammed. I also get to hit every club on a launch monitor to test the feel, launch, spin etc... When investing this much money in equipment, I prefer to do it only once. (buying 2 sets on ebay to find "the one" is more expensive than getting fit and paying more 1 time.)

I've had good luck with ebay.

My wedges and driver are from ebay. Irons and hybrid I bought from the store. Putter I've had forever, also bought from the store.

I'm a big fan of supporting your local pro, but sometimes ebay is easier. Big things like a set of irons, I like to get them new or from the pro. But with just a single club, especially something that can be banged up, like a wedge, I don't mind ebay (although make sure the grooves are sharp).

If the product is advertised as MINT, it is usually in good shape.

balls on ebay are a great deal.

I like the worn out wedge. I bought a re-grooved vokey for $30 off ebay, totally beat up, but I absolutely love it. My 60 degree hogan was bought new off ebay (still half price), and my callaway wedge was lightly used and the grooves were sharp. (I lost all 3 wedges one day and had to replace them at once, that is actually what got me started on ebay.)

I bought my driver, a Callaway square head, for $200 including shipping. Said used, but mint, so I figured why not give it a shot. Still had the stickers on it, no sign of any use at all. Great purchase in my opinion.

How do you know if you bought a counterfeit item or not when buying from e-bay? You can't really find out until you try to get service for your club. I was thinking of going this route, then looked at the reviews of some drivers. Most of the reviews said they were cheap counterfeits.

maybe mine is a counterfeit? i guess you can't know for sure. but i had a callaway driver prior, and my new one performs more consistently than the old one, so if it is a counterfeit it is pretty good. Shaft is nice and it goes just as far as the old one.

i may be naive, but is counterfeiting really a big thing on ebay? i've never heard of anybody landing a counterfeit club.

For those worried about counterfeits, how do you know what you buy second hand from Golfsmith or GolfGalaxy is not?

I have bought both my driver and wedges off ebay, and have had very good luck with it. I just can not justify spending more money in a golf store to get the same product. A lot of times I will go and test clubs at the golf store, but them purchase them online.

Go to reviews.ebay.com and do a search for Callaway FT-i. You'll see lots of reviewers saying they ended up with counterfeits. I stopped looking after that, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was true with other clubs too.

Granted, if it works as good as the real thing, that's great. But you then have to ask yourself - if you knew it was counterfeit, would you have paid that much for it? (This is all without regard to the legality, of course).

This is the reason I'm avoiding the whole e-bay thing for clubs. If I'm getting a (legal) knock-off, I may was well pay the knock-off price. Unfortunately, it also makes the used market a little suspect. I wish there was a way to find out if the item is genuine or fake.
