I´m a little bit frustrated about the price policys of Taylormade & Callaway.

About 2 months ago i orderd a Taylormade Burner 07 Rescue which than had a price tag for about 199 € (which is quite a lot for a rescue anyways). So i pick it up - 4 weeks later i see the sign in the pro shop - TM Burner Rescue now only 139€ - hmmm.

Then i got fit for a new driver and i went with a Callaway FT-5 and Aldila NVS Proto shaft. I never really got a pricing for that club in the first place - which was fine with me since i already figured that would cost me a bunch. But after i put in the order - a couple days later i read on one US golf board that Callaway is slashing the prices for FT5/FTi I-mix stuff - so i checked Edwin Watts and there it was. Now one week ago - my club finally arrived (after 3 weeks of waiting) - guess what - i pay retail for the time i placed the order - 460 € - and by law i´m bound to take that club since it was special ordered. If i check in some stores now - i see the club for as low as 250 € as standard edition. So basically - when i take this club in hand the first time when i payed 460 € for it - its only worth around 360 anymore - WHAT A JOKE!

Thats just a slap in the face and i feel really ripped off by that!!!!!

I know how you feel but that's the same way with almost everything in this world.

I bought my Macbook for full retail and then a couple months later, they dropped the prices AND added a free printer and iTouch with a purchase. Crap!

I guess I can understand being frustrated with the situation, but you can hardly blame TM and Callaway for what equates to bad timing by you. It's not like they had the store wired to wait for just you to come in and buy something so they could immediately drop the price for everyone else. We've all been through it, but that's the risk you take especially buying things that are last month's hot item.

I'm not saying this is at all your fault or you're not entitled to be upset, but it sounds like you are trying to blame them for something. They're just dropping the price to move inventory obviously.

That kind of happened to me when I purchased by TM Burner driver. I paid 299.99, then it went down to 199.99 about 3 days later. GolfSmith refunded the difference though. I wouldnt blame the manufacturers.....price drops are normal. Just seems you have had a case of bad timing.

This is why I've resorted to either buying within the first few months of release or waiting for the price drop or finding used. A way to avoid the frustration.

FYI if you purchased with a credit card, you can call your credit card company and tell them of the price adjustment. Furthermore, most retailers will be more than happy to issue you a credit to your purchase if the price has dropped within 30 days of your initial purchase.
American Express offers 90 day price guarantee.

As for the 1080p TV, you know we're gonna get that a lot. They're trying to push the 120hz tv's out there now b/c come christmas time they'll be at 160 refresh rate and then just WAIT till Panasonic's Life Wall comes out. that thing is AWESOME!
I'm just happy that I got my 120hz Aquos 52D92 last year on black friday for $1888 that's more than 1/2 off.....and still the tv's retailing for $2495! that's a damn steal imo!

My theory on buying golf equipment is this. If you really, really, really want something then get it when it first comes out. If you can wait, then get it in the fall or winter when the new stuff comes out and the prices go down on the old stuff. That is if you can handle not having the latest, greatest stuff.

I was going to get a new set of irons this year, but was waiting to get the extra cash. I still don't have all that I need, so now I am just going to wait until the model that I want is going to be replaced so I can get them cheap.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

Thats something i definately learned since i started playing - old stuff is most often as good as the new stuff (if its not stoneage old)...

When i started i always thought - sweet - new driver - sure makes me hit 100% fairways and longer - Dear marketing departments - THAT is not true . What i dont really get - Callaway has no new stuff out yet and slashes prices mid season - TM had the stuff out long before they slashed prices - why cant they be more consistent - new stuff offically out -> old stuff cheaper - i´m sure that would be a lot more customer friendly than the way it happend to me. Thanks for the tip regarding the credit card - i checked it and it seems that some actually offer this in Germany too - but in my case that doesnt apply since in our pro shop cash is king.

I think you should get refunded by the company which actually sets the price and i´m not sure if this is Golfsmith or Taylormade. Probably Golfsmith will get refunded by Taylormade if they hand you out that discount afterwards?

Sorry for my non knowledge in retail sales but i never came close to that industry...

Im honestly not sure. To drop their price, I am sure that Golfsmiths cost from their distributor would have had to have come down as well. They refunded me the money with no headaches, though.

I'm on the fence about the Titleist 585h's... the 909 looks great but the 585 will fall in price, only thing is I'd love to find them in the V2 shafts, if not I'll have to reshaft and theres the difference in money

You mean my burner driver or rescue? If never been a big rescue fan guy and i dont think the Rescue Burner changes much - i just have sometimes trouble hitting them - but i guess thats just a matter of practice since the rescue club is one of my least practiced clubs in my bag so any judgement about that club would probably be negativly based so i better say nothing...

But i like the burner driver - and i LOVE the burner 3wood - excellent forgiving club which i can just hit from anywhere. I guess now that i get it for cheap i just buy another one just in case it breaks and i cant get my hands on one anymore.

I know how you feel.

I've been playing on and off since 1992. I've seen a lot of that sort of thing and TM & Callaway rank up there with the "worst" among them. They continute to update clubs at a rapid rate.
