So I decided to make a yardage book for the course I have been playing a lot recently. Standard stuff...a couple nights of Google Earth and Photoshop. I realized, though, instead of just printing up a copy on my lousy printer, I could resize the overviews of each hole to my phone's maximum supported resolution (1280x960), add them to my microSD expansion card and - voila - I have yardages on my phone. I can zoom in pretty far on my phone, too, so I can get a good look at the areas I am hitting to.

Sure it isn't fancy pants GPS that will give me yardages based on exactly where I am, but it is better than nothing.

And it is free.

I tried that for one course including measuring distances from certain points on the fairway and the dimensions of the green but it became time consuming. I would rather buy a yardage book, if they offer one.

you've got an insane amount of time on your hands, but I'll tip my hat to your effort.

And remember, you are not allowed to have your phone or other similar electronic devices out during tournament play.

I'm doing a similar thing with my ipod touch. I have all the images stored on it, however I also want a score card built in. I might try and just make a small application that does this

The only problem I forsee is how bad the glare on my phone can be in bright sun, which isn't always a problem.

I don't mind sticking with a paper scorecard for now, but I commend your idea.

The course in question does not offer yardage books. I am also going to print out each hole and laminate them once I get a decent amount of feedback and info about the course.

If anyone plays Streamwood Oaks in Streamwood, IL an wants the images I have made for their own personal use, feel free to ask.

Thats a good idea. Im going to take a rangefinder out to my course and just rip off yardages for an entire evening. If I go after work would it only take 2 nights to get all 18 holes done.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
