okay so lately i have been really getting in to golf (started around 4 months ago) im 14 years old and i have just joined a top golf club in my local area and i have played it 3 times since i joined it last week and and i shot +11 on the first round +10 on the second and +13 on the last day. I would be playing alot better only i am not hitting my driver to well but im sure i will get used to it i have an R7 taylormade 8.5 degree loft driver. I usually strike my irons very well. My average distance with my 7 iron is 150yards and 6 iron 160 yards and so forth and when i hit a good driver shot it can go 250yards. Okay so anyway i kinda just came here to get my swing checked by you people to make sure im not doing anything wrong so i shot a video of myself outside my back garden taking a few iron swings so please tell my if i look off plane or if you spot any orther problems please tell my. i am a golfer with big ambitions and i am looking to get my handicap down very low within the year. My dad says i have the potential to do it

Cheers!!

Your stance and swing look pretty nice. Have you had any lessons?

Do you know a web site called Swing Academy? You can get your swing analyzed there for free by just joining. People can look at your swing, draw lines and angles to detail your setup and plane issues. Really, their is no better way to get comments on your swing and it is free. Join, upload your video, and you can really get some accurate analysis.

Now, if you have only been playing for 4 months and are shooting in the +10 range already, you have a pretty good swing and good potential. You should definitely get a pro to look at your swing. Get a lesson if at all possible.

Agree that swing academy would be a big help for analysis. From the naked eye it looks like you're on plane. What are you ball flight characteristics with our long irons and drivers.

One more note. Filming yourself during a practice swing is a good start, but filming yourself actually hitting a ball will really tell you what you're doing. The mind does some funny things when you stand over a ball. :)

Yes i am going to check out that website and hopefully i will get someone to anylise my swing and your probably right about filming yourself hitting a ball but im pretty sure i do the same swing on the ball although i probably swing more faster on the ball than i do in this video.

Answering kfowler's question i am usually very good at hitting my low irons and my favourite low iron is my 4 iron which i can hit just under 200 off the fairway which is not bad and the way i know that i have hit a good shot is that if i hit say a 6 iron and if i hear a serge off the ball then i know that i caught it real crisp and got my hips in to the shot. As for my woods i am not as good at hitting them as my irons as i sometimes do an iron swing with my 5 wood off the fairway and sometimes can result in a poor impact and not much distance. I just have to remember myself that i have to catch the woods on the upswing and keep the ball on the left of my stance.

As for getting lessons i have never got one in my life. My only ever coach was my dad and he still is. Although he is not a very good player he can spot faults in my swings and has read nearly all david leadbetters books so i got all my knowlodge from him and also watching the pros on tele has helped my understand the swing plane that i should be on.
