Hey folks....

I decided to purchase one of these hybrid/rescue clubs. I purchased a Taylormade Rescue 22 degree.

Not sure what it is but my slight draw has turned into a hook with this club.

I have heard that golf companies manufacture these types of clubs a little more upright to help the higher handicap player. I was also told that this can cause better players to hook the ball. Any of you agree with this statement?

If this is true how do you guys hit this club?

Hey folks....

Taylormade is infamous for closing the faces of their metal woods, hybrids, and drivers, in an effort to promote a draw. This is definitely the case with this club, this is exactly why i prefer nike and ping hybrids, as they set up more squarely.

I have the rescue dual 22* and often hit a nasty hook as well. Setting the weights to slice (14g on toe) and reshafting definitely helped with the hook bias.

I went and hit some hybrids in a simulator a few weeks ago and was hitting an awesome draw (which I NEVER do). The sales guy said it's typical for hybrids to be closed and help promote a draw. I can see where this could cause someone who can hit a draw already, to hit a hook.

I wonder if you could hold the face open a little longer and not get quite as much release to straighten it out a bit.

Hey folks....

When getting TM woods/hybrids and you're worried about hooking, you need to get the TP version, which is one degree open.

If this is your first time carying a hybrid your swing is probably not adjusted to the new type club so I would probably just hit the range, and hit a couple 100 balls

I usually get my hook from gripping too hard and closing the face before I even swing

Make sure you are hitting it like you would hit an iron, not a fairway wood (if you are not already doing so).
I have the same problem with a 3 wood so I dumped that and replaced it with a 16* hybrid. Also, as previously mentioned if it is your first hybrid club you just need to hit the range and adjust to it.

I play a 16* Taylormade Rescue as well, and the club definitely has a draw bias. If you are conscious to hold the face open a little it helps, but you must play it like an iron and not a fairway wood. When it goes straight for me it goes long (about 240), but when it hooks it seems like 200 out with 40 yards of hook.

For me, the nasty hook only comes out when I play the hybrid too far forward in my stance, as if I am hitting a fairway wood. When played back in the stance with a solid downward strike, the ball will launch straight. Obviously a club designed to help a person draw the ball will not help a hook much. My original taylor made rescue loved the downward strike. The more I hit down on the ball, the better the results.

    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
    • This isn't some kind of natural fact. It's a lot more complicated than this implies.
