Im sure this has been on here before but....

Im buying Callaway X-20 Tour Irons this week...Santa left me a little jingle jangle in my stocking...what are your thoughts on the project X shafts. 5.0 5.5 6.0...swing speeds...handicap...has anyone hit them...any preferences...do they play stiff, soft, right on.

I could use a little feedback.

he said x 20 tour and those come with project x flighted, the project x flighted have different kick points thorough out the set, low kick point in the long irons for higher ball flight, same kick point in the mid irons as the normal px, and higher kick point than the normal px in the short irons for lower launch. The main complaint about project x is that many people they feel boardy due to the stiff tip, many people go down .5 and are very pleased with the feel. They are a mid/high launch lower spin shaft, this makes them preform very well into the wind. They preform best for people who tend to take large divots. Hope this helps.

So does the 5.0 equal R flex, 5.5 stiff, 6.0 X-stiff etc? I never understood high end steel shafts like Project X and DG S300/X100 etc.

the X-20 TOURS dont...you can choose flex

sorry me bad I was reading whilst writing a report I didn't notice the TOUR bit. I played a round with the Tour's at St Andrew's Bay and really liked them. The one's I had were fitted with 6.0's and I liked the ball flight, I have a very fast swing though. And in relation to the 'if I were you' - the uniflex is an excellent shaft, ok it doesn't apply to you as you aren't after x20's but it would certainly mean you never had to worry about stiff, soft, swing speeds etc. No dig on my part dude.

the 5.5 is a stiff butt with a medium tip I think.

Thanks...no problem on the perceived "dig"...just wanted to get some honest feedback...I too have a very fast swing, probably too fast..everything I have and have had before had stiff shafts...so you are thinking a 5.5 is a good equivalent

Is it possible for you to get fitted? I would suggest that. Our arbitrary pick might not be a good fit for you, not enough info.

Im defiantly getting fitted, i am just trying to get different opinions. Im doing my due diligence here. I dont want to trust the one guy I talk to at Golf Galaxy...it never hurts to get more information.

yeah definetly get fitted, but generally a stiff shaft(s300) is around a 5.75 frequency in project x language, so you'll either have to decide on a 5.5 or 6.0.....as i said though fitting is very improtant. Good luck with the new sticks!

Thanks...is there anything to look for when getting fitted. I dont blindly trust the kids at Golf Galaxy, or anywhere for that matter, to get properly fitted. I am sure that most are excellent at fitting but I want to make sure the guy I talk to knows his stuff.

Is there any particular club thats best for fitting a shaft. Should I go through them all...is a 5 iron, the one to use. I have heard that before.

How do I know this guy knows his stuff...whats the proper procedure...and does anyone know a rule of thumb that correlates swing speed to flex

Hi,

I was told that if you swing slower than 90mph (driver) you should use regular, between 90 - 100 mph, you should take what feels better for you, and above 100 mph, take stiff.

When I got fit, I used a 6i and changed between regular and stiff, trying not to look at what I am hitting, and finally I went with stiff, because it just felt better for me, even though the facts and figures indicated that I should go for regular.

Thanks thats what I am looking for...my driver swing speed is 120+ so I am sure that stiff will be the way to go. I just want to make sure that if I am buying new clubs they are the RIGHT ones for me...no point in wasting $700

Well, I'd say 120+ makes it pretty easy.

Personally I could not stand the Project X shaft. DG was way better for me.
If you can, try also those. It is interesting how different the shafts feel and perform.

Dont pay attention to your driver SS here, no one swings em the same..

I swing a driver right around 108, but my iron play is somewhere in the 88 SS range..

The 5.5 is not stiff to my understanding. It's similar to the S300 (which people who can breathe air and walk can hit). 6.0 is starting to get stiff....just my "humble" opinion =). If you want the higher ball flight get the project x flighted.......great shaft. I already hit the ball 6 stories high, so I chose the regular with a 6.5 stiffness.

That sounds about right to me. Remember an iron is a lot shorter than a driver meaning that you will have a lower swing speed. My driver SS is 118, my 6 iron SS is 94mph.
