I currently play a PING G10 with an x stiff V2 shaft. I like to play a nice little mid launch draw and when I miss it’s a snap hook. I love the G10 but I am a normal golfer and have to buy something new this year. I am on a tight budget ($350) which makes it hard. I am looking at the Titleist 907D2 with a V2 shaft, Titleist 907D2 with the VS Proto shaft, Cobra Speed Pro D, Ping Rapture with the VS Proto shaft, or the TaylorMade Tour Burner. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on these drivers and/or shafts. And suggestions on any other drivers?

Driver: Ping G10 V2 shaft
Fairways: Taylormade R5 15*
Hybrid: Nickent 3dx V2 shaft
Irons: Cobra Carbon cb 3-P
Wedges: Cleveland CG 12 54*, 60*Putter: new one every week

I think a driver that has a square face or slightly open might be ideal for you. The 907D2 is square face and the Taylor Made Tour Burner TP is 3 degrees open, if I am not mistaken.

Is your G10 one of the 'draw bias' models?

If so then I'd try one of the regular models. If not then maybe you can reshaft your current model and come in under half your budgeted amount. The G10 is a pretty sweet head.

I am bias but you cant go wrong with I hit the Burner and I couldnt be happier. I wouldnt trade it for anything out there!!

Does anyone know if the face of the Ping Rapture is closed, open, or squared?

I currently have a cobra speed pro D and love it. One the best feeling drivers I have ever played. If you are playing a X Stiff shaft I assume you have a high SS and wouldn't have a problem playing this driver as it's designed for higher swing speeds. My vote is for the cobra!!! You will find a number of threads on this forum raving about the quality of cobra drivers.

Exactyl WHY do you need a new driver?

If you LOVE the G10 and have $350 to spend might I suggest reshafting your current G10 head. Most commercial/off-the-rack drivers come with shafts that are not quite a good as the head. For $350 you could have your choice of any shaft on the market put in your G10 head with money to spare (and make it seem like a whole new golf club.)

Exactly...I'm not sure what his trouble is with the G10....unless it's the draw bias model and he's wanting to go straight????

I'd go somewhere and get fit. You'd probably be surprised at what driver/shaft/loft specs you'd end up with. I got fit and didn't get the recomendation I expected, but I bought the driver and my drives are significantly better for it.

Nothing is wrong with the G10 it's the best driver I have had. It's the regular not the draw bias. I just have been playing it for awhile and just want to try something new and see if there's anything better out there. Just want something new.

Depending on your shot shape (draw, fade) I would go with the tour burner tp. The face is slightly open helping you to work the ball and the face feels great. The shafts that come with are also pretty sweet. I have the whiteboard and it's pretty damn nice.

i just got a cobra pro d too (the old one not this years)
to me it feels as if it plays close to the titleist 909d3
its a low spin head, while the 907d2 i thought spun more
plus its got a vs proto in it
and its cheap...i bought mine in practically new condition at golf galaxy for 130

I currently own around 14-15 drivers, most of which I've built or reshafted myself. I'm not a "coolaide" drinker so I like components for the most part, BUT I came across a 9.5*Taylormade Tour Burner TP/ Aldila VS Proto for the "right price" and took it to the range tonight and alls I can say after 1st impression is OMG!!! I think I'm in LOVE. I have learned after trying I'd say 100 or so drivers and various shafts that the VS Proto is the shaft for me, in fact I have 4 drivers at this time with this shaft in them. I had heard alot about this head and just blew it off until I came across a steal and I'm a believer AT THIS TIME.

But dont confuse the Tour with the regular Burner ctw262 mentioned; the regular Burner has a slight draw basis

New many not be improved. In fact, new is often worse (the grass isn't always greener.)

I would still recommend you reshaft your G10. I almost gurantee you will end up with an IMPROVED driver. Just think of the shaft as the NEW part and you can still have that new feeling. Go browse the Golfsmith website clubmaking section. They have several hundered shafts and their specs online. Golfers often talk about head as if it is the entire club (you have a Ping driver), but the shaft is 1/2 of the club and just as important as the head (you really have a Ping/UST driver.)
