I live in Michigan and our season doesn't start here until about mid April. I haven't played since October. I've registered to get my official handicap this year. My question is when do I start recording my scores? Do I start from the very first round? Or do I get some time to knock off the rust before I post? What exactly is the rule here?

Thanks,

Kevin

You're supposed to record all stipulated rounds during the "posting" season.

If you just post the bad ones, it's called sandbagging. If you just post the good ones, it's a vanity handicap.

Post 'em all, you want your handicap to be a true reflection of your game, good or bad. The really rusty ones will eventually fall off the table. The handicap is calculated using your best 10 out of your last 20 rounds.

Most services revise your numbers every two weeks.

According to

Perfect. That's exactly what I wanted to know. If I go to North Carolina in March and play there, will it let me post my score even though it's out of season in Michigan but in-seasson in NC? Thanks!

Yes, if it is in season in NC, then you post it. The computer program will usually take care of knowing whether it is in season or not and adjust accordingly.

Driver: Titleist 905T 11.5*

Hybrids: Cleveland HALO Hybrids 19*, 22*

Irons Snake Eyes Python O/S irons (I carry 5,7,9,A irons)

Wedges: Adams Tom Watson SW 56* (sometimes carry Adams Tom Watson LW 60*)

Putter: Odyssey Dual Force 2 Rossie or Tommy Armour EFT Series Model 6

Yes, but I'd recommend posting at the course in NC where you play if they have a computer connected to the GHIN system there. You should be able to just click on an entry for a visitor or whatever category they have like that, then enter your GHIN number and put in your score. If your home association allows it (some do, some don't), you can also enter it online at GHIN.com (which is also the place to go to find out things like your association's posting season, etc.).

If your course is like mine, the computer isn't even connected to the system during the off season. The Men's club uses it to get set up for the season, but you can't post anything there until the handicap season starts (for us it's March 14 - less than a month now - WOO-HOO ).

Fourputt - That's good to know. It looks like our home system allows you to post anytime. I can't wait!
