Lately, I have been having a sweeping hook with my driver. It doesn't turn sharply, but is like a draw that just keeps on drawing. Even if I start it to the right of the fairway, I end up in the left rough or worse! I hit all my other clubs with just a normal small draw.

Even if I open my stance, weaken my grip, I still hit this shot shape with my driver. I hit it about 250 - 270.

It doesn't go straight then hook, it is just a gradual, continuing hook.

I'm thinking I need a stiffer shaft. I have no clue as to my swing speed, but 7 iron is 150, every other iron is about 10 yards off this per club, so 3 iron is 190 or so.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

If you think it is possibly an equipment issue, what are your driver specs?

Does your ball flight start at your point of aim or immediately start left?

If it starts straight, how long until the draw takes over?

Those are just some things the folks might want to know to help them out in giving advice.

If you think it is possibly an equipment issue, what are your driver specs? DVS regular shaft MacGregor MT. All my shafts are regular.

Does your ball flight start at your point of aim or immediately start left? Point of aim.

If it starts straight, how long until the draw takes over? About 175-ish.

Its hard to say if its a club issue. Have some one look at your swing. Paying attn to your hip rotation. You may be sway a little to. just a thought

I worked this out on the range today after hitting many balls.

My shoulders were in a closed position, feet and hips square. The fix felt like they were in an open position but in fact they were then square. Very subtle how I can gradually fall into bad alignment and it starts feeling correct.

100% true......most bad shots are due to faulty grip, alignment and posture.

I hit that sweeping draw too sometimes. Where do you play the ball in your stance? The quick fix for me is to move it back in my stance a couple of inches.

It sounds counter-intuitive to some, but for many the fix is to make sure your hips open up faster -- this keeps the arms moving better. There are many ways to say it... don't slide, open the hips faster than the shoulders, weaken the grip, ad nauseum. These ideas are only part of the problem for many. Most of the time, turning the lower body faster and ahead of the shoulders and arms will keep the sweeping hook at bay. Just my opinion.

Closed shoulders with a square foot alignment makes it harder to open up actually, so you swing out to the right but give up to soon with the hips so that you don't push it... and you get the big sweeping hook. It is a hard thing to accept that hitting hard with the right hand does not cause a push hook, but it won't if your lower body supports a strong right side release. Of course this is not applicable to an over the top type swing, but I am assuming you are not "over the top" -- that would be producing pull hooks.
