Good evening all! So with a new season starting up there of course are all new 2009 lines of balls. I have always played the Titleist Pro V1 and have always loved it. But this new one just doesn't seem the same. It seems like it have significantly more spin than last years, too much spin. Anyone else frustrated with the new Pro V1s? any advice for replacements? what new ball have you taken a liking to?

Pro V1x.

I was considering switching this year and just bumping around some shag balls until I had my swing back. Then I finally brought out the Pro V1x and birdied the first hole I played with it this year - can't turn back now!

I just got introduced to Srixon z-urc's, I know they have a new ball this year but the last years model is working really well for me. Lots of distance and crazy spin around the greens!

I play the new Nike's and they are a great feeling ball. Different from last years, but they did not lose their edge.

Just buy a bunch of last year's Pro V1's. It's the ball you like plus you can get them new for a decent discount. But you'd better act fast. Retailers are discounting their old stock to move it out the door and once it's gone that's it. From the "new" market at least.

I really like the B330s, they are most like the Prov1x, they have low spin, but still have lots of feel around the greens. Also, these balls are for a swing speed of atleast 108.

You seem to have confused the B330 with the B330-S. The latter is more like the Pro V1; the former like the V1x.

And swing speed isn't as important as you think, and certainly doesn't have a solid cutoff line.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I havent played any of the 2009 balls yet. But im looking forward to see if titlests new balls are as durable as they say. If they are, ill use to the pro-v1x instead of the e5 or nxt tour. It was really frustrating only being able to get 5 or 6 holes out of a pro-v. Getting at least a round out of a ball (sans cart path) is a must. The NXT isnt that much more durable, but at least i can get a round out of it.

I am not sure what to think about the Z-star from Srixon. What I have read about it is generally mixed, but at $39.99, I think that I might try it as a potential alternative to the new Pro-V, which incedently I haven't tried either. I have found that out of last years balls I liked the Pro-V more then the B330-S from Bridgestone, which felt fine but was less spinny around the green for me, compared to the the Pro-V. What I have read (to include just a few quotes) is that the Z-Star is: a little crappy, superb, squishy, less spinning and harder- making it go further than Pro-V. I think that it is clear that it isn't going to change lives much, but like a lot of golf equipment the best way to tell is through personal experience.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
