Wow big contracts must be a pain in the behind unless you're on steroids because Mark Texiera and CC Sabathia just looked like nervous wrecks out there today. How long do you think they will play this way? Will they rebound easily? Should the Yankees learn to rebuild rather than to sign 100+ million dollar players?

Give it at least a month to make performance assessments. It's opening day, lol.

I'm sure Tex will be fine.

CC on the other hand - he better get better, lol. Forget his ridiculous contract, he's on my fantasy team!

if you look back at the last few years and their huge signings, they haven't really panned out well. I mean, A-Rod's an MVP, but he chokes come playoffs. I really think some of these players that get these absurd contract really feel the pressure to perform and it f*cks up their game. And I don't feel bad for them one bit. Man up. YUCK THE FANKEES!

I would not worry about it. Like PJ said, it's opening day. Bound to have some nerves.

As for Arod "choking", can we stop repeating something that is not true. How can you choke and hit 313, 308, 409, and 421? How can three of your teams make the ALCS if you're such a "choker?" Inclusive, while he's had two putrid series, hitting 133 and 071, he's managed to still outhit Jeter in the postseason since they've been teammates. So if Arod has been a "choker" since he's been in NY, what does that make of Jeter, someone he's outperformed? Not stirring controversy, just saying...

The bigger issue is who was the brain surgeon that decided to charge $900 for tickets that are 25 rows from the field and lied to the fans, claiming that they would be closer to the field? On Friday night, for the first time in Yankee history, not one foul ball reached the upper deck. $45 to sit further away. Sweet, really sweet.

The Yankees (still) suck.

In non-related steroids humor...In The Simpsons rerun this past Sunday, Mr. Burns and the Texan were playing poker. Burns beat the Texan with the best hand of 9 High. The Texan, who lost his basketball team, the "Austin Celtics", said to Mr. Burns: “If they’re acting sluggish, slip some steroids into their cocaine.”

i was at the birds opening day game against the spanks. and what a great day it was to shut the yankee fans up that try to take over the stadium. texiera got booed from the introductions through his final at bat, and i personally loved every minute of it. CC looked awful from the first inning. to me anytime a power pitcher starts using offspeed stuff as an out pitch, they are in trouble. i know it was only one game in a very long season, but for that one day, the o's and their fans came out on top. What a great day to be an o's fan and to be at the yard.
on the other hand i am a realist and understand that obviously the yanks are going to contend this season and the o's realistically have no shot to do any damage in the al east this year.

Its still early in the season, I wouldnt be too worried about it. Sabathia played really well last year when he was with the Brewers, so he should be fine.

The thing that worries me with CC is that while he may be good now, I just have a gut feeling about his hefty frame NOT holding up.

Maybe it will, maybe it wont. I guess the way I look at it, he doesnt play for the Brewers anymore, so I couldnt care less.

I'm looking forward to the Yankees' mediocre season, or crappy playoff run at the very best. They can't beat teams like TB whose payroll is a fraction of the Yankees', proving once and for all that you can't just "buy" a good team. Try getting some half-decent scouts.

We have good scouts the problem is we can not afford to rebuild we have to win every year and so we spend. Now Philly has just won and they lost one of the stars {Burrel] because they could not afford him. Will it hurt?we will see.If Tampa goes in the Toilet this year they will be called young and upcomming still and will be given a free pass. The Yankees must be good every year for the good of the game.Teams want the yanks good so they sell out when they come to town.Teams need the luxury tax dollars the Steinbrenner does not mind spending. You will never see a salary cap in baseball because too many teams would fold without the free luxury tax cash.

No it won't hurt because Ibanez is better than Burrell, though I do really like Burrell. As for the Yankees, they haven't won a World Series in the past eight seasons. Obviously things aren't going their way; it wouldn't hurt them to take a season "off" to rebuild their team and get some young guys in their lineup, instead of buying out players who have had one or two good seasons.

Look at the Rays, for example. Their payroll was like $5 and they were able to beat teams like Boston to get into the playoffs. At the risk of sounding biased, the Phillies are similar. Let's see... Hamels, Rollins, Utley, and Howard - four of the Phillies' best players (though Rollins is off to a rough start) - weren't traded for. Not to mention guys like Myers too. This isn't to say, however, that the Yankees just buy ALL their players, since guys like Jeter, Pettitte, Rivera, and Posada, among others, have been lifetime Yankees. The problem with the Yankees is that they think they can just buy a World Series, instead of looking at the talent in their farm system.

When you are good every year you pick low in the draft. The baseball draft is the toughest draft of all the major sports to get right.More first round picks go belly up in baseball than any other sport.Like I said the Yanks can not wait for a player for 4 or 5 years to develop they need stars to keep the money flowing in.Even with the empty seats with the Yes network the cash just keeps flowing so they shop to get what theywant.

    • I always get adds for "Find your Eastern European Soulmate" I think it's a nifty gadget to have at home. If your going to do a dedicated putting session I could see setting it up. Thanks for sharing.
    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
