Hi just wondering if it's not worth having a swing for your wedge that only goes just past your leg then through to the other one past the followthrough.I have struggled to hit this and have found that if I choke down the grip and go to hip height where the club becomes horizontal in the takeback then I can be more aggressive and avoid the chunk.

Just seems on those shorter shots 10-40 yd range that anything less than a hip height swing leads to the bounce or the leading edge of the club to to lose speed and purity of contact when I strike the ball.

I almost grip the steel when hitting those shots when in tight to the pin, seems to work well with chipping too.

Do you have advice or should I not worry?Do I abandon the partial swing back?

Yes but if I'm swinging back to just past my right leg then I'm looking for a small shot with feel and no matter how much I practice it,it works very well of a mat BTW,but it's inconsistent off the grass depending on the lie or the quality of the strike at the bottom.

Should I hit it faster?

I also hit my pitch shots similar to what you've described. Usually, swining back to just past my right leg... i'd be hitting short chip shots about 10-20 yds. You should always accelerate on the downswing... and yes hit it faster.

the key to the shot is making sure your followthrough is about 50% longer than your backswing. this will make sure you accelerate through the ball instead of hacking at it.
