Hello,

this is my first thread and i am starting this because i am in need of help with putters.

I am in the market for a putter because till now, whenever I went out to the field, I used my friend's putter.
I would like to buy a nice putter that is in range of $120-$150. I was thinking of purchasing a ODYSSEY WHITE HOT XG 330. Have anyone tried out this putter? if yes, what are your opinions on it???
and if there are other putters you can recommend, please do!
thank you in advance for everyone's help!!!

You can't go wrong with an Odyssey but putting is all about feel so go to a golf store where they have an area you can putt and try out every single putter they have their in your price range. Some people like heavy putters and some people like light putters.

Once of your key areas to focus on should be what kind of stroke you use when putting. If you are someone who opens the putter face on the takeaway then closes on the follow through, you'll want to look at a blade. If you like to putt with a straight backe takeaway and then follow through straight to the target, then look for a mallet. Selecting the right type putter is crucial. I've switched from a mallet to a blade this year and it has made a big difference on long putts as I tend to open and close on longer strokes.

Personally I like Ping, Odyssey and Taylormade putters best. You should be able to find older models of all these makes of putters in your price range.

I used one of the putters from the white hot line briefly a couple of years ago. I was kind of ho-hum about it. But thats mostly because im not a fan of putter face inserts. But if you like the insert, then go for it.

For others that price range, you can get a good ping putter, (Karsten series etc) and i keep hearing good things about Clevelands VP line of Milled putters. Also any number of used putters either at retail stores on online.

Go to your nearest golf shop and demo as many as you can. Try out your friends putters. You might find your favorite putter costs less than your budget.

My putter was $75 15 years ago. It's absolutely priceless to me but can be bought used for about $30.

My buddy putts lights out with an old copper Bullseye. It's probably worth more in scrap than any kind of resale value, I don't think he'd sell it for $1,000. I also know a guy with a $200 Futura that can't play 18 holes in under 40 putts.

The point is: DEMO, DEMO, DEMO......

Don't get stuck in a price range or labels. Ignore the tags and buy what feels and works best for you. A putter you trust is more valuable than any other club in the bag regardless of what it looks like.

Rife Anitgua is what I recently got. Best putter I have ever used. Has lines milled in the face to get the ball rolling. Just amazing. Try one out before buying another putter. I have had the 2 ball, SC, ping, etc.. and this is the best putter I have ever used. They have lots of mallet styles and blade as well. I like the blade so I got the Antigua. The Aussie is very similar. Google Rife Putters and check out their site. You can see them at Edwin Watts and The Golf Warehouse as well. Under name Guerin Rife.

Also, in the equipment forum here, search for Rife. There have been a few threads in the last week or so.

You're kinda like in between with that price range. There's so much to factor in: Mallet or blade? face balanced or toe? Insert or non? The XG 330 is a favorite of mine but I ended up going more expensive and getting a Rife. With your price range you could try a Rife if you bought one of last year's models off ebay. If my Rife doesn't work out the 330 is one I might give a go. The best thing to do is get in a store and Putt, putt, putt till you find something you stroke well, is pleasing to the eye and fits your budget.

I'm a big fan of the Anser style putters, Ping makes a variety of Anser putters, prices would be in that range if not less. I also liked the Yes putters and they are reasonably priced.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

get a scotty cameron circa 62 from ebay from timtheputterman. its 180 for putter and headcover but it'll be your favorite putter. It dropped my handicap and i've been putting great after changing from a ben hogan mallet putter.

oh and it wasnt an advertisement for the ebay seller, i just wanted a reference to show you that you can get a scotty for less than $300. Take the plunge and if you don't like it, it holds its value compared to other putters due to the large following behind titleist putters.

I was just going to post a link to Tim's Circa 62 putter. I just love how this putter looks. A new Scotty putter for $180, you can't go wrong with that.

I know I will have to buy this putter sooner or later.

I would strongly suggest a rife as well. I have an aussie and it is an INCREDIBLE putter, definitely has the best roll of all the putters I tried.

Another vote for the Rife IBF Aussie...

I had a Scotty that I had played with for several years. It's now sitting in the corner of my office and won't be finding it's way back to my bag anytime soon. The Rife brand is THAT good...
