Yeah once again more news about Vick possibly coming back into the NFL. Personally I am completely against it. I don't think Vick should be able to say that he's sorry and get back into the NFL after what he did. Any thoughts about the guy or just anything you have to say, leave it here.

I can't see Roger Goodell allowing Vick to return, at least not after at least a year or two of suspension. Committing a felony has to be against the personal conduct policy in a huge way.

For that matter I can't really see a team taking a chance on him. The NFL is pretty PR-centric, no team wants bad publicity. The backlash against a team signing the ring leader of a dog fighting ring would be insane.

Lets see they let gun dealers and murderers back in but not dog fighters?Look I own a dog and love it to death and hate what Vick did BUT they put him in jail took away all his money and he did his time.As I stated before we have killers and gun nuts all over the NFL and they got back so let some team take a chance if it wants to.

Sure there are a lot of people who have done worse things than Vick, but animal cruelty is being expressed all over the nation and at the same time he is killing innocent dogs to make a quick buck. People murder out of hate, Vick murdered dogs for money. He was in the NFL making money. Now I know he filed for bankruptcy but the money he was making he could make a couple grand just going to an autograph session. He is a disgrace to the NFL.

Vick did his time and Godell will probably let him sit out 2009 and reinstate him for the 2010 season. The Falcons have him under contract until 2013 and they won't bring him back, if someone wants him they are going to have to trade with Atlanta for his services.

Whoever makes that trade should be prepared for the onslaught of PETA like groups harassing the team for all of that first season he's back. The away crowds will also be especially brutal and I'm just not sure that a team is going to feel that Vick is going to be valuable enough to offset the grief the rest of the team is going to have to endure.

I'm torn.. I'm all about 2nd chances but these professional atheletes are doing whatever the heck they want and still have their "job". I'm sorry, if I went to federal prison due to a felony I'd never find a job in my field again. Much less a month after release

Opie i think that you are completely correct. If it was your average joe caught dog fighting it would be at least a few years in prison. You wouldn't see your job again, and lets face it even if Vick did make it back into the NFL he will be terrible. I think Michael Vick should be banned from the NFL.

To me it depends on what your job is. If he was guidance counselor I would agree but he plays football which is a physically demanding sport that does not necessarily require a good moral compass. Its not like getting your job back. I think he was making 8+ million a year and now he will be looking for a veterans minimum contract. While that is a lot more than I make it is a severe pay cut for him. I sure you would not refer to it as getting your job back if you went back to work for the same company but they only paid you 1/16 of what you were paid before. I think what he did was horrible but if he did not go to prison I think most people would agree that a two year suspension would be adequate that is what he served. Let it be up to individual teams to decide if his physical abilities are worth the negative publicity that comes along with it.

Flap is right. If I were a GM of a football team that needed a quarterback, I wouldn't hesitate in signing Vick. I definitely agree that what he did was completely wrong, but as flap said you can't not allow him to play when you allow murderers and gun dealers to play.

He'll be allowd back in. He served his federal jail time. He also went bankrupt. He's also going to be doing a lot of PR work with the Humane Society which if you'll remember was the number one organization that pressed for his punishment. They villified him to no end, but they will now be working together at HIS request. He has to do the Mea Culpa thing for a long time and be sincere about it.

Vick will not come back in 2009 even if Goodell says he can. His restriction ends in July which is after the team camps begin. It's hard enough to add a player late much less add a player AND all the baggage that is going to come with Vick. It'll be 2010. He'll be at the team for a full season, all the rage will have died down, and Vick's "new" persona will have been established.

I think that other people in this world work hard for a living and do all of the right things to make their way in this world and then yet again there are people who murder and kill and dogfight have more money than these people who work hard could ever dream of. If Vick put himself in the shoes of people like us and he was dogfighting he would probably find himself living on the street or with a relative or friend just trying to make it by. But no he is a professional athlete and that gives him a security net to do whatever he wants and not get penalized as bad as a normal person would and then he gets out of jail and comes back to the NFL to make more money in one month than a lot of us will in one year.

He is an entertainer his job is to entertain people. He does this very well, the fact that he is being discussed on a forum about golf means that the general public think he is an interesting subject. If he does come back and play their will be people watching the game that ordinarily would not be watching football just because it is Michael Vick playing. I don't understand why people have the impression that athletes should be better than the general public. I think I am better than 90% of NFL players at things not related to athletics but nobody wants to pay to watch someone do a lot of things O.K. they want to see someone do one thing amazingly well.

As far as him getting a free pass everyone else that was caught up in the dogfighting group with Vick was offered a plea agreement to testify against Vick to convict Michael Vick. I don't think most people that are involved in dog fighting end up in Leavenworth federal prison. This is a result of him being famous and the government making an example out of him. I think this is a good idea and a very effective way to discourage people from participating or supporting this heinous "sport" but in no way was Michael Vick given preferential treatment by the judicial system.

I`m really growing weary of pro athletes being given "second chances" to make millions. Especially when they`ve been convicted. It`s kinda like "work release" with a big pay check. If they drop the hammer on these "thugs", sports will clean up. I don`t have anything personal against Vick, but what he did is unexcuseable,he`s a con, and if he ever plays for Dallas,I`ll never watch another Cowboy game-I`m a life long Cowboy fan! I will not support, watch, ect any team that signs him. He`s "Bad Newz"

Well, I don't see him getting a shoe deal anytime soon, especially not from Hush Puppies. But I watch football for entertainment, so I really don't care if he comes back or not - I can't name most people on the field anyway, even on the teams I root for.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

my opinion is that they should just give him another chance. everybody deserves a second chance. yes, what he did was horrible, but there are a lot of guys who have done worse than him still playing in the NFL. he needs to make a living, and it sucks that his living will be MILLIONS of dollars again, but he is a pro football player and thats what they make. i agree he is a thug and a POS for doing what he did, but i think he should be given another chance. just my humble opinion

Most of the 'second chance' guys in the NFL are from the Paul Tagliabue era. He didn't hold players accountable for anything, no matter what it was. Leonard Little killed someone while driving drunk and nothing ever came of it.

Goodel is determined to clean up the image of the league, and that kind of crap isn't flying anymore. Guys are getting suspended left right and centre these days, all for far less severe things than what Vick did.

You can't quit the NFL!

You are a Cowboy's fan and won't watch if they sign Vick? Did you stop with Tank or Pacman? How about Irvin? People who say they won't watch their team if Vick is on it are ridiculous drama queens that will still watch the games.

Michael Vick got shafted considering what he did.The guy in baltimore murdered someone and got punished less than Vick did.Only difference is that Dod lovers and Peta threatened to boycott so league threw him under the bus.I own a dog and hate what he did but drugdealers and killers are worse and are back in the game.

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
