ok guys/gals

let me give you some background on my game, b/f i tell you whats up

-been golfing since i was 13 - now 29
-my first year and 2 years after I was junior club champ @ my homecourse
-was a 2 hndcp all thoughout Junior & H/S
-all self taught, no lessons, baseball grip - i have been told i have a very smooth, natural swing - whataver that means!!! haha
-game was wicked, but life happened an I put the sticks down for about 2 years
-picked em up again about 5 years ago
-last year didnt golf one round, as we had a baby - justy couldnt find the time
-this year i want to get back into things quite seriously

i am only playing to aabout a 9-10 hndcp or so...which is tough for me b/c i am used to playing WAY better than this - just need to unleash the skills somehow

ok...now here is my deal

i can not find the proper driver/shaft combo
last year i played, i was hitting the Titleist 905T 9.5* w a regular YS-6 shaft
-i hit it quite well, BUT BERY high...like to the moon high
-i recently switched to the D1 w a Graffaloy Blue 9.5* Stiff shaft...couldnt hit the braod side of a barn w this thing. The face felt open all the time and as a result, I was blocking the ball all the time
-i recently ordered up the D2 9.5* w the Diamana Blue Stiff
-havent hit it yet, but after reading the reviews on this site, it seems like the better club for me
-i like to be able to shape a few shots, and the D1 just didnt let me do that

anyone else have similar issues or like their D2?
i have alwaya hit Titleist Drivers and love them, but the D1 through me for a loop

oh yeah...my swing speed varies between 99-104MPH, according to the simulator at Golf Town

any ideas???? Thx!

Are you talking about the 907 series or the 909? Titliest drivers are usually a half degree open, so the little arrow on the head has to point slightly right of target or youre going to hit it incorrectly.

I have a similar swing speed and i hit the 909D2 with the stiff DBlue shaft pretty high during the 6 or 7 rounds i demoed it. I ended up going with the D3 head.
THE WEAPONS CACHE..

Titleist 909 D2 9.5 Degree Driver| Titleist 906f4 13.5 degree 3-Wood | Titleist 909 17 & 21 degree hybrid | Titleist AP2 irons
Titleist Vokey Wedges - 52 & 58 | Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 Putter | ProV1 Ball

Bike --- see his sig.. he meant the 907 series... enis I played the 905T with the NV-65 (green) S shaft... and then I switched to the 907D1 S (NV Proto) and ballooned quite a few shots but that also coincided with a bad knee (meniscus tear) and coming down steeply... your swing change at all? just curious...

Get that knee fixed. I had the same injury and it sucked. I had surgery in November and it has never felt better. It was my right knee and I could never trust to swing into it. Now I can finish my swing. Highly recommend getting it fixed. It is really annoying to have your knee swell up from stepping wrong.

same swing style, but more speed now i used to have a quite slow tempo swing, but have put on about 15lbs. of muscle since (damn gym!! haha) so for some reason i am swinging faster w more power ....definatly notice it too 150 yds, WAS an 8 iron, now it's either a 9 or PW irons are like laser beams, but i just cant make the D1 work ...it wont let me shape anything i could shape my 907T really nice

ok, heres tossin a loop into everything
i had my swing speed checked again at NEvada Bob's (buddy is a MGR there)

i DID NOT hit a shot under 112mph, varying up to 116mph
also it wasnt like 3 balls, about 1/2 hour of hitting shots
ball speed was average 157mph, flight angle was 13.5-14.2

how does this change things?

that seems like a tonne of speed, doesnt it?

  • 1 year later...

what is your avg distance? what's your distance loss from ballooning? and rpms? launch angle seems a bit high - that's what mine was when i was ballooning it. it wasn't the club though for me, it was my swing, it did get steeper (and i had switched from a NV-65 S to diamana whiteboard 63- S and from 9.5 to 8.5 btw and it did not help). now that i've corrected my swing flaw (not coming down so steep) i've regained the distance i lost and hit it a med traj with the 8.5 as i should.

btw, you should definitely get a S to X shaft.
