I found this image on a website:

Is this a good way to calculate mathematically how far you should stand from the ball with each club? Does the height of the player come into play? My clubs are unfortunately not lie adjusted, so I fear they should be a bit more upright. I'm 186cm, or 6' 1.2". My clubs have lies from 59.5º to 63º.

I would think that the lie of the clubs decide how far you stand from the ball, even if they are not lie adjusted. If so, does the calculation on the image work for this purpose? The distance you get after calculating being the one from the tips of your shoes to the heel of the club?

I started thinking about ball distance after moving a few cm back and suddenly hitting the ball much better. May have been a fluke or because of errors when I stand closer, but this distance will give me an indication of how far to stand from the ball.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have heard to different things.

One is that with your irons, your hands should be under you shoulders and with your woods, they should be under your nose.

The second one is that the butt of the shaft should be a fist with and extended thumb away from your upper thigh/waist.

I just let my arms hang naturally and do their own thing.

My body didn't change size or shape just because I have a different club in my hands. I tend to play every club virtually the same. Arms hanging down from shoulders over my toe line.

I am currently following advice given in the book "A Hacker No More" by Kroen. His thought is to lay the club down such that the middle of the club head is at the ball, and to "position your feet so that the point where the grip meets the shaft is aligned with your instep". I have taken the 'instep' point to be at the top of the arch. Doing this will naturally bring you closer to the ball with shorter clubs. The value of this technique to me is that it is so reproducible from shot to shot and takes distance to the ball out of the equation. Of course, this setup is for full shots; chips and putts are another matter.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
