I have calluses on my right ring finger (the first tier from the base of my finger). I wear bandades on my finger every time I hit at the range or when I play a round. Is the location of or existance of the calyce normal? Should this tell my anything about my grip or my swing?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Are you left or right handed?

You should buy Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons" book. I got mine for about $2 and $3 for shipping so like $5 from Amazon used paperback, and it shows the proper location of calluses.

I get them above and below my proximal phlangeal joints on my ring and middle finger on my right hand. Sometimes the one on my right thumb will tear off and leave what looks like a missing blister, just from practicing a lot. I also get it on the heel of my left palm and I've actually been getting irritation between where my left index touches the right ring finger (I use an interlocking grip). Most of the time Tiger wears a little wrap below that proximal joint of his middle finger, sometimes his ring finger as well. I've noticed that when I needed wraps on my right hand, I would need it more above the joint. If you use your hands, the skin is gonna get tougher. As a kid, I played piano, cello, and guitar and by 8 years old, the peadiatrician had trouble taking my blood from my finger tips anymore. If you get an excess of blisters, I'd start thinking about gripping to hard or in the wrong spots since blisters are mostly caused by rubbing.

For the rest of us (non doctors in the audience) WHat is the proximal phlangeal joint?

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

weeee terminology lesson heh

phylangy (sp?) = finger or toe

distal - farthest from the mid line (your body)

proximal - closest to the mid line

so i can only assume he's saying he gets calluses on his finger closest to his palm

I got them on the middle one of the three ring finger phalanges. And I'm also a high handicapper, so we might do the same thing...

I'm right handed, never had anything on my gloved hand...
