I have been hitting my irons wedges and driver pretty good and scoring pretty well. BUT.... every time i hit a fw or hybrid i either hit it VERY thin or almost topping it with an occasional shot way off the toe that snaphooks like noones buisness or something that feels very much like a hosel rocket. So i am very tired of hitting GREAT drives on the par 5s only to top or barely advance the ball that goes everywhere but in the fairway. I also do this on the the tee with my woods(but not the driver). I have a feeling of hitting up on the ball and when i dont do that i chunk it or hit it WORSE. I also play it way off my front foot. So how do you hit your fairway woods and hybrids???? I need some help...... This is extremely irritating....... Thanks

hybrids should be hit like an iron. You hit them with a descending blow. It's ok to take a little divot with them, just don't over do it.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

Well I had a lesson with my local Pro and he told me to always take a divot even with a 3 wood and hybrids . At first it did sound stupid but after about 10 trys it worked and the ball flew on a great trajectory maybe you could try it. Hope it Helps

Anybody think moving it back in my stance might help?

I don't know if this is your problem but when I first got my hybrid I was trying to hit it like my driver i.e. i was using my driver swing and standing pretty far away from it. this led to a lot of topping (thankfully I found this out on the range and not on the course). This is obviously wrong. As someone said, swing it like you do with your longest iron. for me, that meant standing a lot closer to the ball.

Speaking to the hybrids, I've had a lot of work with mine. I've found, and as others have said, if you try to hit them like a fairway metal, your chances of hitting a snaphook or topping it greatly improve. I used to hit mine the same as my 3 wood, a little off my front foot and sweep it off the deck. I would get nasty hooks on it, from the grass or tee. Now, I play it just off front of center, about a half roll from middle, and hit a descending blow. My results have improved greatly, and now my hybrid is my go-to club off the tee when the driver is all over the place.

As far as the 3 wood, I still haven't figured mine out. I hit it pretty good off the tee but off the deck its a crapshoot. I play mine right off the inside of my front food with a sweeping swing. If I try to take a divot I chunk it. It's my most inconsistent club in the bag.

Sounds like you are playing the ball too far up in your stance. Try moving it back to be slightly inside your left foot (right hander). It should help your trajectory and consistency. Works for me so I thought I would give you my two cents.

My miscues are due largely to swaying vs. pivoting and not maintaining the same heigth throughout my swing. I attribute this to bad knees.

That being said....I generally do okay with driver (now that I'm gaming the current 460cc models vs my smaller headed older driver from yesteryear), irons, wedges and hybrids. I believe this is because they allow me a wider margin of error for "vertical" misses.

Fairway woods off the deck are a fickle lot for me....especially when one or both knees are giving me trouble. Mishits are often topped or weak bleeders that peel off the toe.

My last three rounds, however, have seen better results hitting my 3 wood off the deck. My main swing thought was to maintain my vertical positions throughout the swing.....mainly follow the old saying "keep my head still". I've made much more solid contact and been able to get some straight shots that went respectable distances from the short grass.

Maybe this will help you...I don't know....it's sorta become my mantra when I address the ball.
