I'm sure this has been kicked around before but not by me. I like the new Callaway HX Hot balls. What is your favorite? I can't seem to hit the Titleist ProV1s and the So/los just go off in my hands on the greens.

I was able to play a round with the new Maxfli BlackMax balls.. First off, I love everything about the balls. They feel great, sound a little different off the driver (seems like a harder more solid sound), handle great around the greens, and are durable as heck. I was able to spin the balls 5'+ with my 9 iron as well as my 52*. I was really happy with what these balls offer. I was able to get 5 dozen balls at a damn good price. (5 dz $80 brand new of course) Amazing ball! I used to play ProV1s.

My fave is probably the HX Tour, I've always seemed to play welkl with it. The only problem for me is that it cuts up quite quickly, and sometimes spins a bit too much.

I played a round with the Hogan/Callaway rep over here, and apparently he went to a seminar with the head of Callaway balls, who said that the suffing up doesn't affect the performance at all, which I was surprised at, but they've tested thousands of balls and this is their finding.

Recently I've been playing the new Bridgestone ball and found that to be very good as well - more durable than the HX Tour and doesn't spin so much. I'm gonna play them for a while longer to really decide if I'm to make the switch permanently.

To me a good ball is how it handles on the greens. I'm not good enough to have a persistant ball flight where I hit a 7 iron and go "this ball is too high."

I play on hard greens and generally play Titleist Pro V1's. Lately I've been trying other balls. Black Max and Bridgestones release too much. I was surprised by the Callaway HX tour 56 was pretty close and surprisingly the Hogan Hawk. At $25 a dozen I bought 3.

I've never hit Nike. I boycott everything by them.

My answer is in my sig file.

Callaway balls shred too easily and still spin too much, and I've never bothered to check to see if I like the ONE Black. The B330 is "okay."

Generally, I play the Pro V1x,but have tried out the Tour 56 Callaway and several others. The DT SoLo is a good ball and so is the Noodle for the money. I get good distance from both of them and they spin enough to hold our greens.

Pro V1, I have tried many others and I always keep coming back, at least for my game it's the best ball out there.

Have to agree there 100%. And after all that, at this point, I have 100% confidence pulling that ball out of my pocket. Switching to anything else almost seems like a let-down.

I play either the Noodle or the ProV1x. I will also mix in at SoLo at times as well. However, I do need to make a confession. I bought a dozen of the colored Noodle Ice balls as a joke for the Fathers Day outing I played in. I went for the shock factor of a 6'8" 245 pound guy hitting a Pink ball. It was a hit all they way arround. I loved the way the thing felt. It exploded off the face and seemed at least 1/2 club longer than the regular noodle. I actually continued to use them for the next couple weeks. I have seen one in white, but I will have to see what my supplier can come up with.

P.S. My supplier is actually my wife's uncle. He is a barber and trades one of his clients a haircut for 2 dozen balls. The guy gets first rate stuff. I don't mind using a used ball, because after I hit it once it's used anyway.

I found one of the white Noodle Ice balls in the rough the other day. I gave it to my playing companion, so I didn't try it out. I guess I should have kept it. I also found a PURPLE ball. I save all the colored ones for my granddaughters. They love em.

ProV1x is my favorite ball. I also like the Taylormade Black, I think it performs every bit as well as the ProV1x it just doesn't seem to hold up as well. I can easily get a round or two out of a ProV but the TM is done after 9 holes. I have yet to play a Nike ball that is anywhere near as good a ball as the titleist or TM. The Callaway ball is alright, I won a dozen and use them occasionally in practice rounds.

I switched from ProV1 to Callaway HX Tour. It is 5 to 8 yds longer off the tee and spins enough to give me control around the greens. HX Hot is even longer off the tee, but not enough feel around the greens.

It is very much a matter of personal preference, but the ProV1 spins too much for me.

I'm going to try the Callaway HX Hot balls. I need the extra distance. My son out drives me by 50 to 100 yds and he hits Titleist ProV1s and Maxfli liquid center balls with the Balata covers. I am out there about 240 these days and it gets my goat how long he is. He says I shouldn't hit behind him cause I over swing, cast the club head and reverse pivot. Heck, how can I get the honor when he is getting birdies and eagles and pars where I'm trying to make 25ft par putts. Since he went pro about 15 years ago I haven't come close to beating him anyway.

I tried the So/Los the other day and I 4 putted on the green I used it on. It seem to explode off my putter face, I couldn't get the darn thing to slow down. Does it rocket off the putter face for you too?

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
