Ok. I definitely plan on getting fitted within a month or so, but I had a few questions I wanted to sort out before hand as far as club heads, shafts, grips etc..

I have just started golfing again. I've been hitting the range like an animal and my irons are playing VERY well. 3-sw is good. I rarely hit the driver at the range because I rarely hit the driver on the course. 7-12 times a round about.. We'll leave putting alone for now. UGH.
The current shafts on my irons are regular rated 80-94MPH. SAme with the driver. Sometimes I push the ball straight left. I have trouble aiming sometimes. But most of the time I hit a slight fade, which I prefer to the big slice I used to hit.
My clubhead speed as measured at a ball fitting (it was free) with an R9 driver was consistently over 103mph. Average I think was 105. I was at about 90%. I also think I could get my speed WAY higher after a little more work. I used to play hockey so I can get my hands around pretty quick.
So... What clubs should I try and demo in the shop later? Do I need the stiff shaft? Extra stiff? If I hit a fade already should I keep a neutral face or switch to an open face to hit straight? I'm pretty damn happy with my current fade I have to be honest.
I tried the R9 and it didnt feel good. The G10 felt awesome in my hands and through the swing. How much can you tell by swinging the club indoors? It does add confidence already though.. So.. Thanks for letting me get all this out. I really just want to talk golf a little and maybe get some advice, ideas etc..
P.S. I had a warbird I think a while ago that I used to hit over 300 when I was dialed in.. That was when I was playing hockey and in great shape so my speed was probably way up there.
Thanks again. next will be the putting thread. lol.
Should i get fitted for a driver first or irons?

Given your "Happy Gilmore" heritage, you probably need stiff shafts, at least. But, before you buy new clubs...

Talk to your golf pals and find a reliable golf pro who could check out your game. Now is the time to make any adjustments to your swing. Also, the pro could tell you after a couple of sessions what to do about clubs.

A couple of $50 golf lessons, plus some practice and play, would help you determine what mix and brand of clubs you want.

Hmm. Ok.. So you're saying play some more first and get some lessons they get fitted huh? I mean I feel like I'm figuring things out on my own pretty well and pretty quickly.. I can't imagine how many golfers have thought the same thing only to get all ufcked up a week later. hahaha.. I also feel like I dont want any input. Im kinda happy with my swing and I dont want too much info to screw me up. Every time I read or try a new "tip" it takes me back in progress. I guess that should be explained to the unlucky pro who is going to have to coach my sorry ass.
I read everywhere "get fitted, get fitted, get fitted" and I believe it. Definitely. I was just wondering how far to go before getting fitted. What's better right now for me a lesson or a fitting? I think a week or three at the range and on the course would help me determine that. I would hate to have to get fitted again in 6 months because everything is off.. Thing is my driver is OLD and crappy. Burner bubble.. I mean I hit it ok, but i'm dying to get back to the over 250 I used to hit with the big cally I borrowed a while back

Just clicked the link for your home course... your paying 100+ bucks a round? Wow, I wouldnt have any money to play let alone get fitted...

Looks like a nice course though man, you live in a beautiful place!

As for the fitting, forget it for now man, your a 20 hcp, I was the same way, thinking about getting fittings, and where, and what clubs, etc, etc...

But then I though, why get fitted for an over the top swing?? Which is probably what you have too... I bet you send the ball left of your target a lot, but hit it nice and solid??

Anyways, Ive worked on my swing A LOT and I'd get lessons if I could afford them.. If you can afford lessons, do that for a while and groove a swing that you can keep, then get fitted.... You'll be much happier.

$100 a round? really? Is that what they 're getting from people there? NOT ME. There's something called a Kama'aina rate in Hawaii for a lot of things. Basically they try and take care of the locals. Show a hawaiian license and get 20-70% off on all sorts of stuff. Green fees, hotels, dinners, swimming with the dolphins whatevahs.. Shoot I dont play turtle bay cuz its $50 for me. hahaha. Nevermind if I didn't have the hawaiian ID.
The worst muni course here is better than than some of the best munis I've played back east. View wise. The greens here can get WAY too fast (for me) sometimes.. I also play the executive course at hawaii Kai a lot. It's a quick way to hit a ton of different shots and scenarios. That's like $18 with a cart I think.. Roughly. Olomana is a great cheap course here after 2 or 3pm ($23 with a cart I think).. kahuku is a 9 hole muni on the north shore that is like $8 for residents. Same thing with the Ala wai course (too crowded) or the pali course (gorgeous) theyre all like $23 or $28 a round I forget. We live a spoiled life out here. A popular phrase here is "Lucky we live Hawaii" :)

Wow, you do have a spoiled life out there! Sounds really nice and green fees are more than affordable!!

Im jealous!

When green fees are cheap here (summer) it rains every single friggin day!! In the dry season, when its a beautiful 75 and sunny, rates on the courses double and triple.. cuz of the snowbirds, so Im kind of priced out of playing in the winter...

Might as well be snowing as far as Im concerned!

That course in my avatar can be had for 18 bucks during summer twilight, which is a sick deal, come december it'll be 85 bucks to play there in the morning and like 55 for twilight!

Do they do that in Hawaii? Raise the rates in the winter season?
